Now wasn't there someone in another thread that said that Republicans are FOR gay rights? Considering they blocked even debate on the issue, sounds to me that someone was either ignorant of the facts or the lied plain and simple.

I suppose they were afraid that the gays would go stampeding to the military, and there would be nobody left in airport bathrooms to play with them.

Republican opponents included some GOP senators who favor lifting the Pentagon's requirement that gays and lesbians keep their sexuality a secret.
However, they expressed concern that Democratic leaders could limit GOP amendments to the broader National Defense Authorization Act that includes the "don't ask, don't tell" provision.
Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the chamber's top Republican, proposed an agreement for the chamber to consider 20 amendments on a rotating basis, but none could include adding the DREAM Act to the bill.

From the same article, so it appears that we needed one vote to pass it, but no republican would cross the aisle based on the fact that the 20 fuckead rotating amendments (having nothing to do with the bill) couldnt be pork packed (or ideolocially packed) into the bill, and so rather than do a *THINK ABOUT THIS* wall street bailout sized load up (for how long?) of money into the wars.............

Yeah, it is the goddamn illegal cabbage choppers that are bankrupting us, this imperialistic incursion into the middle east is not what is doing us in.

So they vote against the fucking Dream act, that is part of the parliamentary process. However, before Reid mentioned the DREAM act, Republicans were against the repeal of DADT. McCain as well as others are on record being against it.

Please forgive my intrusion into American politics, but if a bill is passed to deplete yet more eligible people from having a career in the armed services, when a shortfall comes those that voted for the bill should make up the numbers, them and/or their families if the voter is past it in terms of everything including fitness to serve.

Don't worry, this is just another step closer to having gays serve in the military. I really don't think most of the American People really care if someone is gay if they want to serve our country.
That "dream act" crap is just the opposite. Noone wants that. I tried to call Sen. DeMint's office then Lindsey Graham's office to register my "NO" vote on it and I couldn't get through all afternoon!

But McCain was for the repeal before he was against it.

A former war hero, McCain said he would support ending the ban once the military's top brass told him that they agreed with the change.

Popeye, I guess you don't understand a small part of parliamentary procedure, YOU CAN VOTE ON EACH AMENDMENT TO BE INCLUDED OR EXCLUDED.

All you need is someone to make a motion to do just that.

No, the Republicans are using any excuse they can come up with to vote against the policy. Republicans have been on record in support of the policy for years. As has been pointed out, Republican leaders have gone on record in recent months against repealing the policy.

Perhaps if you would actually read or watch something besides FOX News you might actually learn something.

Wasn't it the Democrats desire to limit the voices of the Republicans the reason that Sen Susan Collins R-Maine who supports the repeal of current law changed her vote? I guess the Dems want to stiffle free speech. I don't know. Just looks like it to me.

You and I...like it or not...must understand they, the Republicans, are representing the wishes of their supporters. So putting the blame on their shoulders is wrong. The blame lies with the American people as a whole who are still prejudice towards homosexuals...and this includes all political parties.

I don't understand why we need a "law" for this just do it. It's getting so that some people won't pick their nose unless there's some "law" that says they can do it.
We can't enforce the laws that we have now.
