Some of my favorite fight scenes which should be considered:

Many of the Matrix fights:  The subway fight between Neo and Smith in the first one, the Neo vs. 100 Smith's in the second one.

Many of the Star Wars prequel lightsaber fights were just awesome choreographically:  Jinn vs. Maul in TPM and Skywalker vs. Kenobi and RotS.

In the movie Serenity:  One of the most brutal fights is at the end between Mal and the Operative.  One of the most beautiful is River vs. the Reavers.

I don't like that clip coz they try to make out it's for real, rather than a top-shot from a movie.

And the movie ("Never Back Down") was dreadful.

They're technically superb for sure, but I prefer something a bit more "gritty".

The Bourne series has a good combination of "genuine" (or, at least, genuine looking) fights, based on a bunch of MMA and Jujitsu moves.

I love that movie! Loved the series too. I so wish they'd stuck with it :(

River kickin' butt in The Maidenhead Tavern, FTW, i say. Summer Glau's not just a ballerina with Wu Shu skills but most definitely a bird, however.

So here's Mal vs. Operative (in Serenity):

. . . and the bar fight scene in Firefly: The Train Job (one only needs watch until about 4:50)

I like her enough that, if she asked nicely, I'd marry her :)

Lol   "Get to the 'choppah . . "

i'm in the que for Summer-Glau-marrying myself, if she swings that way.  It's possible i'd say yes to her even if she rolled her eyes when she asked.  And then i'd go buy her some crackers to eat in my bed.  As long as she agrees not to get all Terminator on me when she's mad.

OK, what's your favourite unpleasantly violent hand-to-hand fight in any film?  Give your reasons.  One of mine is John Cusack's fight to the death in Grosse Pointe Blank, in a school hallway, with Mirror in the Bathroom by The English Beat playing in the background.  I love the sudden and completely unexpected start to it.  Two professional killers - couldn't get a better match.

Funny, this is the first one I thought of, too. Reminds me a bit of free time at ye olde Krav studio.

The fight between Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier at the end of The Boys From Brazil always sticks in my head for some reason: you tend not to see actors of that age beating each other to a bloody pulp in a nice middle class sitting room, do you?

(On which level, does the dust up between Norman Mailer and Rip Torn in that documentary count?)

My favorite fight scene has to be from Gladiator where Russell Crowe is taking on like six or seven guys at once and he cuts them all down like they are nothing, then he proceeds to take two swords and stabs the last one with both of them and then take off his head!

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?

CLASSIC!

And really...no birds...well this BIRD does like a dose of gratuitous violence every now and again

Jeez.  Is it just me, or are the gals who are muscling into this boys' thread citing the nastiest fight scenes of all?

I blame it on Sarah Palin and her much-publicised punch-ups with caribou and grizzly bears. I'm deeply shocked and am now worrying about the planet's future.

You know what? I suspect, and whisper this coz it's radical ... I reckon, around here, you may not be the only one.

This from a woman who takes the nickname 'gothicbutterfly?'

See RF?  Got to watch the apparent softies.  Just like my formerly 100% girl's-blouse of a little sister, who's just passed her first dan in karate.  She still wears flowery dresses, too.
