Nice speech, but nothing concrete. A guess the basic complaint the commentators will have is: no specifics.

I heard it as I flipped thru channels at the neighbors-  the part I heard sounded just like a Bush speech.

It looked like Justice Ginsberg was falling asleep.  Which would not be surprising with the health problems that she has had.

I also noticed the stuffed look on the Joint Chiefs when the President talked about full integration of gays in the military.  I am guessing that what was going through their heads was something along the lines of, "Oh shit!  We do not have the UCMJ rewritten yet!"  And probably remembering some of the mutinous activities on the navel ships in the 70's.  Of course, now if universities and colleges refuse to allow military recruiters their federal funding can be slashed.

Aylee,  was the speech broadcasted in its entirety- or were there messages from the sponsor?

A nationalistic speech, and a campaign speech rebuttal.

Did you notice when he mentioned freezing spending for five years, both parties went silent----Waaaaaaa.......??????? He's gonna shut off our spending increases....for real?

I think mentioning medicare and medicaid when talking about cuts was a bad move. I'm fairly certain the cuts he intends to make are in areas that don't affect coverage, but he didn't specify so that might scare some people. Increasing the amount on college grants is a good idea, but it must be accompanied by regulating tuition rates. Otherwise, colleges can raise the price of tuition right along with grant increases.

Aylee,

I heard the last 30 minutes or so, and I thought it was one of the better State of the Union Addresses I have ever heard.

I am still reading over the transcripts from the speech.

I always feel a little bit sorry for President Obama, he became President of a country that was a sinking ship, and people are blaming him for everything from A to Z. {Two wars, recession/depression, government debt, etc.}

Back on topic, I specifically like what President Obama said about:

*Building up our nation's infrastructure with high speed rail serve. I LOVE this idea!

*Tax breaks to companies that bring jobs BACK TO AMERICA!!!
Hell yes on that one, actually bringing jobs back??? novel fucking idea!

*Doubling the child care tax credit!

*Securing our borders!
One day this could be a reality.

* I like the fact that President Obama said he is willing to listen, and wants input on his health care bill.

I am listening to his speech again, it sounds good, I believe President Obama means well, but it is hard to stop a sinking ship.
I hope we all can at least get life boats.

We will not see high speed rail in our lifetime.    Not anything serious on it.

That was probably my favorite part.  I think a high speed rail would be fantastic.

He played generic, small-ball with the speech. Nothing remarkable, nothing interesting. I do like the man's sense of humor.

You have to admit President Obama is charming and witty.
Vote for him, in 2012, Rich.
