ORIGINAL: samboct Hi Marini Good to see you back! I'm playing hooky for a few- so I'll throw my $0.03 (inflation) in. I didn't watch the speech- I listened to it as I was busy reformatting references. Overall- shy on specifics and funding. Not much there to be taken all that seriously I'm afraid. Yes, he's saying he's pushing education and clean tech. Show me the money- although there was a tweak in educational loans which are a disaster these days. In clean tech- calling for 1 million electric cars on the road by 2015- not much of a goal. Had he said we're going to be converting the federal mail truck fleet over-that would have been noteworthy- and a good idea if there were $$$ behind it. The difference between the Apollo program and clean tech is that Apollo had money- and clean tech doesn't. Serious clean tech proposals begin with a T in terms of dollars. High speed rail- sorry- it's a sick joke. We don't have the population density of Europe or Japan where this can make sense. Who needs to go to Iowa in a hurry anyway? Given the population flocking to the coasts and leaving the Midwest empty, it's silly to build rail lines to nowhere- Japan found that out in a hurry. Hi sam! I have not heard anyone suggesting high speed rail at THIS time in Iowa, or the MidWest. Where on earth did THAT come from? I would think {and I am not an urban planner nor an engineer} that a high speed rail on the East Coast {Maine to Florida} and the West Coast {Washington State to Arizona or so} would be very profitable and as you suggested THAT is where the population, tourism, government, and many businesses tend to flock. Again, I am not an engineer so I will let them work out the details and hope they would not plan or build a high speed rail that no one uses or needs. Given the Republican talking imbecile after the speech I saw on MSNBC blathering on about how the deficit was both parties responsibility (I gave up after that.) maybe the gross distortions of the Republican owned media are getting hard for a lot of people to swallow. I agree how quickly many think we forget the last 8 years of GWB, and the economic nightmare recession/depression, 2 wars, etc. that President Obama INHERITED. Obama's approval ratings are climbing- given the Republican crazies alternative- Obama may start looking pretty good to the center. Maybe he can pull out a second term. I am a moderate and I will vote for whomever I feel the best candidate for the job is. I never cared for George W. Bush, and I am being kind. IF that man could be President for 2 years, as useless and horrible of a President as he was, than damn skippy, President Obama can be President for two terms. At this time, I don't see any contender that would cause me to consider voting for them instead of President Obama. IF such a candidate appears, I will certainly vote for them instead. I will take 4 more years of President Obama, than another form of GWB in principal, practice, or mindset, any day! The Republicans talk a lot of shit, but they don't have any viable answers or real solutions, just talk. Peace!
