Hi All,

I just recently had an experience with a potential domme who was demanding a $250 gift card just to be considered even though she said she would stop talking to all other potential subs if I sent this to her.  After I questioned a few things and asked why money has to be an indicator of a sub's loyalty, she finally said she cannot deal with a sub who is cheap and stubborn and said she was moving on to other potential subs.  She never gave me any details about what is expected of me as a sub or what she is into or anything as to what her circumstances might be.  All that was demanded before anything was a $250 gift card.

This sounded a like a scam to me and I would really appreciate some feedback as I don't know what to make of this.

It's a scam. It's always a scam.

Thank you for your reply.  I definitely had my suspicions.  Is it something that should be reported?

No need to report it.  Collarme already has a big banner stating not to send money to anyone you meet over the Net.

Yeah, while I can understand pay to play, the idea of pay to have a chance of playing is ridiculous.

Duuh, it's a scam.  And this is coming from someone who is openly a professional dominant.  If someone wants to exchange an amount of money you both consider fair for a service (eg, a BDSM play session), then that's not a scam.  If someone wants you to send them money in exchange for NOTHING, or vague unspecified promises that they will be your mail order bride or domly girlfriend and they're just flying in from Nigeria and need money to clear customs.....what do you think will happen after you send the money?  NOTHING.

Yes, though little or nothing will be done. Don't stress about it, just report em (via the "report message" facility), block em and move on with your life.

Well done, BTW, for not throwing teddy from the pram; CM sees a lot of drama llamas who whine on about such things. Basically, anyone asking for money, especially large sums of money, is going to be a scammer. Just avoid them.

It wasn't a scam from Nigeria or anything like that.  We both live in the same state so we were probably no more than like an hour and a half away, judging by how many miles away her profile said she was.  So for a minute it did seem realistic but I'm glad I didn't do it.

Not all scammers live in Nigeria, just the stupidest ones who speak the worst English.

It's also possible that "she" shaves in the morning, and I don't mean "her" legs.  Or that this person is otherwise not as they are representing themselves.  I would absolutely suggest refusing to send money blindly for unknown consideration from strangers who may not be the people they claim to be or show pictures of.

Fyi, you actually don't know for sure where she was located, she can say she lives wherever on the profile.

Look at it this way....if you wanted to date someone would you ask them for money to make sure they were worthy of your attentions? If a date asked you for a down payment to go out with you what would you think? What if she promised to be with you and not consider any other potential suitors if you gave her that money? You'd probably not do this yourself and you'd probably tell any possible girlfriends that did to move on down the road.

Unfortunately scammers exist because scamming works. It's a living. Most of us wouldn't stoop to doing it but enough scammee's must hand over the cash to make it worthwhile.

My advice, since you don't know what to make of this, would be:-

a) use your computer to play games, not to communicate with the outside world - you're not ready for it

b) don't breed - I'm not sure we need you diluting the gene pool.

Just a caring bit of "tough love" for you.

If it so much as remotely smells fishy, trust your gut and consider it fishy. Don't waste your time wondering, either you're sure or you aint and in case of doubt - move on. It usually works well.

You are wondering if it "might" be a scam, a perfect stranger demanding a $250 gift card to even consider you... In that case, could I interest you in a few barells of snake oil, a bridge in Brooklyn and some swamp land in Florida (ideal as a holiday resort)...

FR

I've always been a bit puzzled as to why this scam works. Is it just plain old gullibility in certain submales or is there something else involved? Is it possible to get some submales to believe that opening one's wallet is the only way into a relationship with a femdom - that 'this is the lot of submales, and this is the culture of D/s that normal, or 'real', submales just must expect to take on board'. Or maybe some submales are more easily convinced of the line that they're 'cheap' for not coughing up. Maybe underneath that such submales feel that they're 'lacking in manliness' in general.

More or less a fast reply.

Also, I should note that I checked your profile because I wanted to verify your age, OP.  From that, I was able to ascertain that you have been an adult for the last ten years who should be no stranger to the internet.  Yet, I am still compelled to ask you, are you grown?

Have you ever had anybody at your local munch ask you for money for the privilege of talking?  Do you give random strangers large sums of money (besides charity) for no guarantee of services or products to be rendered?

You might do very well to read through the help section on the site.

I don't see this as a scam. Two adults, two supposedly functioning adults, one that wants money and is clear about that fact and one that seems a little cloudy on how he thinks about that and wants the opinion of others. Where's the scam?

However, I do see it as funny.

Hello, jerseyboy06.  Glad to hear you listened to your instinct and did not send the money.  As Steven and RapierFugue said, yes, you could have used the "report this profile" feature.  No big deal if you didn't...but it can be satisfying.   I don't know what could actually be done about it because if one profile is shut own, a new one could be made very soon afterward.

By the way, past subs and bottoms have never had to hand over money to me.  And scammers aside, not everyone is into financial domination.  Personally, I would rather watch a sub providing a service...like fixing my vehicle while sweating and hurting his hands a little...

Your profile has your list showing, but the essay part is gone, except for the gray background color.

Welcome to the other side of CollarMe.

I've just got that, too - I thought it was my browser settings.
