KenDckey -> Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/16/2011 7:06:36 AM)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110216/ap_on_hi_te/us_teacher_suspended_blog

A high school English teacher in suburban Philadelphia who was suspended for a profanity-laced blog in which she called her young charges "disengaged, lazy whiners" is driving a sensation by daring to ask: Why are today's students unmotivated — and what's wrong with calling them out?

mnottertail -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/16/2011 7:13:37 AM)

uhhh...educational.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/16/2011 7:29:52 AM)

Maybe because their teachers are so fucking stupid that they write a blog about their jobs and students and assume that it is not going to be seen....She should be fired for stupidity

rulemylife -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/16/2011 7:38:47 AM)

Maybe she should look to herself for the reasons her students are not motivated.

It seems she is doing most of the whining.

Nothing's wrong with calling them out.

Doing so in such a passive-aggressive and completely unprofessional manner, one which did nothing to educate/improve the students, means she's lucky she was merely suspended.

That's right. How dare she suggest those lazy little punks are lazy. Better we should boost their little egos, than try and teach them to be responsible adults.

While I agree, she could have used a little more tact. She also had good comments and didn't call out the students by name or id them in any way. Some times I think it is good for a kid to get a dose of unvarnished truth once in a while. Maybe it will make then think a little more.

Yes, she's setting such a positive example.

She can say what she wants. But to post it on a blog and then somehow be indignant that you get fired? That makes her as lazy and a punk just like her students..

Yeah we should belittle kids at every opportunity. It's not like calling a child stupid. dumb, lazy etc. would have any effect on the child.

FR

Hows about we put a majority of the blame where it belongs, lets start with the PARENTS.  Parents don't do their job, and expect the schools to do it for them.  The teacher has your kid seven or eight hours a day five days a week, 35 to 40 hours total.  There are 168 hours in a 7 day week, who is failing to do their job for those extra 128 to 133 hours a week?  Sure lets blame the teachers, and the schools.  Give me a fucking break.

Hows about we realize this is not the 1950's.

You have parents who both have to work to make ends meet.

I'm sure most would like to devote more time to their children but are unable to.

Fire anyone who majored in education and replace them with people with practical knowledge and experience in their subject who are out of work partially because of the money pissed away on the Department of Education.

10th - 12th graders are hardly in that age group of what I would consider a "child".

Child can refer to intellectual development too, in which case "child" can certainly apply to .....how old are you and Lucy?

If people who are potential parents arent able to raise their kids, then dont fucking HAVE them in the first place.

No, let them breed like rabbits and depend on someone else to raise them.

Then, when the government employees dont raise your kids to your specifications, SUE the bastards.

Yes indeed it is not the 1950's or 1960's or 1970's or 80's or 90's.  But somehow even with two jobs, and two kids, now in their late teens, we as parents have found a way to be engaged with our kids and their education.  The two job thing is a fucking cop out by parents too lazy to do their job of parenting.  If my wife and I can do it so can other people, sorry charlie, that dog don't hunt.

Indignantly,
Some Knucklehead in NJ
