A better question would be this:

Do you take the 59-year-old, or the 25-year-old?

and the answer would still boil down to - what preference does the employer have?

An example: a local DIY store here in the UK deliberately chooses it's floor staff in the 50+ age range. Those men and women have years and years of experience of DIY and maybe even have had a career in the building/renovating industry. I make a point of shopping there because I know that someone there will be able to advise me, and in ten years of shopping there they've shared a wealth of advice and experience.

It chooses its stock staff to be much younger, because what they lack in experience they make up for in energy and strength. Ask them for the best mix for mortar for building a garden wall, or the best way to repair a damaged drain pipe and you will most likely be told "I dunno". That's why they are being trained. One day those stock staff will be the floor staff...when they get the experience and knowledge.

Just as in romantic and/or D/s relationships it all boils down to the individuals involved. What are their needs, what are their preferences.

This is a most peculiar reaction. NocturnalStalker does indeed typically engage in an irreverent, pithy, cynically humorous posting style, but his last comment here was actually quite insightful.

Perhaps the appearance of "bloody idiocy" is user error?

It's "Nocturnal," junior.

I just came back from doing that.  It was marvelous.

It may be because it is 4:30 AM but wasn't the question originally presented, "If I was filling a job position, would I hire an older person with a diploma, or a kid without high school?"

Now I followed up by changing that question (if the job in question was applicable by a teenager, then the former would be overqualified anyways) to if there was a young person and an older person, both with comparable resumes in terms of being qualified for said job position who would you take over the other?

This doesn't have to do with my age, but I would go for the younger person.  You can get more years out of them, which makes for a long-term commitment as opposed to someone that will retire in a few years anyways. I am willing to bet that if someone who was 58 or 59 did lose their job right now it would be tough to find one that pays the same or close to the same wages of their previous.

Since Nocturnal offered a very polite and reasonable response to this thread,
are we to assume that your obnoxious one is based on a case of hair envy?

I get your point Nocturnal, and I do understand it

If two people with very similar experience were to go for the same job, it's likely the younger one would get it if the older was was very near to the end of their work life.

But to take the analogy further (and drag it into relationships too - what the hell!), from experience of hiring people, I find that the younger people don't always hang around as long as the older ones. The younger ones are looking for variety and experience, and will often 'job hop' for years until they have what they need.

The older worker will most likely hang around until the last possible minute, mostly because they have all the experience they need and they also want to settle down and finish their career somewhere they're happy and secure.

I can see the same happening in relationships - younger people do a lot of 'partner hopping' (well, I did when I was younger anyway ) and are in no great hurry to settle down. Older people seem to want to find that one person for a longer term relationship, and are more inclined to find someone with similar goals.

I realise this is a rather sweeping generalisation (which always goes down well here...not!), but you catch my drift? A lot of the reasons an older person may not see a younger person as a potential partner/master/whatever is more because they expect that younger person to conform to the 'norm' of younger behaviour.

And of course, there's always the horror of finding out that you have shoes in your closet that you used to go clubbing in that are older than your partner....

There has been a move in some states here to encourage employers to hire the Grey Force and bring them out of retirement to help financially seeing that their pension is pathetic. Companies I know hire these ex retirees in similar areas they have decades of experience in but oft in a part time situation allowing the old farts time to get home for their tea and snooze and to remove additional pressure from them. Interestingly enough, I've seen young school leavers employed  and placed with the old farts to be taught my master trades folk.

And I personally, would sell most of my non-vital organs for the opportunity to learn from someone who damn well does know his business. I'm sick of working for people who have neither the intellectual nor psychological capacity to care for their trade, their business, or their personal lives.

In response to the OP - It seems to me that it is often as much a matter of personality as it is of experience. The image most people see of youth is that we lack the ability to carry ourselves with the proper gravitas in any given situation.

I know this has most likely been brought up before but why is it that subs desire older men due to 'experience'.
Gee, I love stereotypes and generalizations. When I was single I wouldn't date a guy that was more than 10 years older than I was and frequently dated guys younger than myself. Although, I had a limit on how much younger I would go, too. I ended up married to someone that is two years older than I am.

That is an excellent point as well.  Though there are some young people out there that do commit better than others they are a dying breed at this current age I am at where the focus is to see how many gormless partners you can rack up.  Personally I think it all depends on the person in the end.

Insert borderline homo-erotic scene of hair blowing in wind dramatically.

I'm waiting for one of our resident beauties to come up with the classic and woo NocturnalStalker with the timeless words:
"Romeo! Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?" or in this case, "Nocturnal! Nocturnal! Wherefore art thou Nocturnal?"

Who says that people don't do this in their own head now?  Though I can promise you that if I were a submissive, the number of years would actually be at least twice as high as what you listed above.  I'd be shooting for tens years most likely and by ten years, I'd mean the whole ten.  Not a two year dynamic that ended eight years ago, but somebody is claiming that as ten years experience.

I'd be even worse about the top/bottom thing.  I wouldn't be handing My ass over without knowing somebody's skills because I've seen them for Myself.  The rope guy that is never lacking partners at the play space week after week because he's constantly tying folks.  That's the guy I'd be bottoming for.  I'd only go for the best of the best.

The Bolded part.

Ive learned that because I like dangerous things that it might be a smart Idea to not engage in those who dont know how to do it. Im not letting anyone set me on fire unless ive watched them do it to someone and then had them do it on a lower risk area, Same with needles and anything else I participate in.

One of my FAVORITE tops in fire is only a few years older then me, but hes been playing with his craft for years. Its not about age completely but years of doing it... When you walk into the philly scene asking for people to do fire they tell you person X Y and or Z....

Ya, the things I like are DANGEROUS, so experience is a no-brainer.

I've corresponded with younger Doms who claimed experience, but I never got to see it live because they failed for coming across as HNGs.

Markus, I don't think they really want age as much as maturity, and knowing what you offer and want.  In your case, I read your profile and read that you are looking for 100% no-limit slaves and yet don't explain what experience you have (I suspect little or none).  And your profile reads like it was thrown together hurriedly.

Get experience.  Learn what you want.  And express yourself well.  Once you do those, you'll fare better.

Additionally, if I were looking for TPE, I would seek someone whose profile was more credible than:

quote:

I seek.... trust, honesty, friendship, beyond that of normal... couples(?).But she or they must be 100% no limit total property slaves.
