I don't see submissive or slave as either being more or less submissive than the other.  For me, it's not about rights, degree/depth of submission, love or lack thereof, etc.  For me, it's about how much authority one has over the other.

You'll obviously find a million answers out there.  I personally am not all that hung up on the labels anymore.  The man has authority over my life.  I trust him to do so.  I submit to his will. He trusts I will do so.  Call it what you may.

Ditto. Simplicity at its finest.

I am new to all of this as well, My Master says I am a sub with slave tendencies.  I think the difference is in the level of commitment.  A sub is willing to give up a certain amount of control, where as a slave will give up a lot more, if not all.  I agree with my Master, other than a very few hard limits, mainly scat and blood, I have given total control to my Master however and whenever he chooses.  And as far as slaves being used without love or care, I think that it depends on the Master and slave.  Only you can know what is right for you and I find that definitions can be very blurry.

I identify as a submissive and have done exactly the same. And I'm fully committed to be submissive to him. So, in my relationship your theory doesn't hold water.

It is ultimately how you define yourself. They can go either way. Search and read a lot.

I prefer to call myself a submissive. The term "slave" has too many bad images to it when I think of the term.Forced slavery and the way it has been practiced throughout the world is a digusting practice.I doubt slaves from the "Old South" in America would say they were big fans of slavery.I do realize their is a difference bewteen forced slavery and consensual slavery as defined in the BDSM lifestyle. If other people are fine with the term, that's great.I just speak for myself when I use the term submissive.I am comfortable with the word submissive and I feel it truly defines who I am.

Can we get a fat thread next? Haven't seen one of those for a month.

How about..."What's the difference between a fat submissive and a fat slave?" There's a thread that maybe has some weight behind it.

That's not total, now, is it?

That's like saying , I give my Master total control, APART from .......If you have an *apart from* then it's not total

Now, just to fuck with everyone, we shall change the submissive side of the equation to peanut butter.

What's the difference between Jiffy and Pete Pan?

I should probaly say that if and when I meet the right Domme, then I would consider myself to be Her slave.Being defined as someones slave in this respect,I can understand that.

submissive is a simple easy catch all term, what I am depends on the relationship, sometimes I am a slave sometimes a sub sometimes a bitch sometimes lovely. There is no real difference in the terms to me, there seems to be dfifferent meanings for different people when you cant measure the level of submissiveness in other peoples relationships and it really isnt a competition

Im new to the scene what is the difference of being a Slave and Submissive?:)

Google submissive collar and then Google slave collar.

Subs that are collared ? I thought the collar was THE demarcation...no more equivocation.

Besides as I've tried to advise the un-indicted...all subs put rings on their fingers, bells on their toes and ...a bone in her nose.

Slaves are just born like that...they have no choice. So yes, sometimes...it is hard to tell.

hahahaha Too funny!!

I'm fat. And I've been called a submissive, a sub with slave tendencies...and I've even been called slave before. I think it all depends on what term those IN the relationship want to use. I think someone can be submissive but, with the right Dominant, can have slave tendencies or even become His/Her slave.

No need to get complex. The difference is simple.

Submissive's have many choices, slaves have one-to obey or not.

I can't imagine that, even if were told tomorrow that I was going to be called a slave now, that it would actually make much difference in how many choices I have to make in my life. I still have to go to work and make choices all day long. (How much do I NOT enjoy being in management....)

There was no "apart". We have a TPE relationship, period. Just because I don't believe in consensual slavery, doesn't mean that my commitment level or submission is less than someone who does.

This is where semantic preferences cloud such an issue. "Belief" in a concept (or personal application of it) is not necessary to the point of whether the structure/definition of that very concept happens to apply to one's relationship.
