I posted this in another thread (in reply to another person) but it is remarkably appropriate here, as well -

What the real shame is, certain people here can only make ad hominem attacks or otherwise attempt to belittle others, as they seem totally incapable of logically addressing the subject of any given thread or post.

Yup.  Us Dims and Libtards are ebil ebil people.

What if our 'allies' helped carry their fair share of the defense load for a change, wouldnt that be nice?

What the hell is wrong with cutting defense spending by half? We still will be out spending everyone else, AND it would help balance the budget.

My point is simple, NONE of the Republican cuts involve defense spending, in fact they want to INCREASE it.

Instead, republicans want to gut education spending, we have fallen from number one in the 70's to number 14 in 2010. So yeah, lets cut education.

Sanity you have implied that we need to fear China, well the Chinese education system has been steadily improving while ours is declining, so I guess it makes sense to cut Education.

Okay, the Federal Government has stuck approximately 2.2 TRILLION dollars in the social Security fund as IOU's for money it has used elsewhere.

The government borrows surpluses from the Social Security trust fund and replaces that with treasury bonds. While interest is being paid on those "LOANS" the interest hardly meets the total needed for people paying into the system for their retirement and those already on Social Security, which means the trust fund is going to end up going broke, simply because the government cannot afford to pay back the 2.2 trillion it has borrowed.

As it was originally designed, social security would have been self supporting if it had not been raided like some fucking piggy bank. Thus, the actual move would be not to cut social security spending, but not pay back the money into the system the government has already borrowed.

By the way, China owns a large portion of the US debt carried internationally. That was do to a REPUBLICAN administration going to them for loans, after cutting taxes to stimulate job growth, which the cuts DID NOT DO.

Now, what should those who depend on Medicaid and Medicare do? By the way, some people on Medicare are also on a medicaid supplement plan. I cant get that because my social security pay is too high. But then it is not high enough to pay my monthly expenses AND pay for a supplemental medicare plan, so I am thoroughly fucked. I could give up the house I have been paying on for a number of years and default on the mortgage, but then that is what other "deadbeats" did causing the bank crisis.

Besides, I am past the break even point, I actually owe less than the house and property is worth, but I cant sell it for what it is worth because the housing market sucks, so I guess I could sell it at a loss, let some other poor fool get in over their head.

By the way Sanity, as you grow older, your immune system weakens, pretty soon you will be in the same boat as some of the people who are going to suffer because of the cuts proposed, maybe you have good insurance, but you know, if the Health Care Reform bill is repealed, should you get old and sick, your insurance carrier will be legally allowed to drop you as "TOO EXPENSIVE."

That will leave you the choice of MEDICARE.

Funny thing is that people don't ever think it could happen to them.

But one catastrophic illness can wipe out everything you have set aside to avoid being dependent on Social Security, and the only thing that keeps you from being dropped by your insurance carrier is the provisions in "Obamacare."

Are you going to be singing the same tune if that happens to you?

Sure, sure, weve heard it all before, the Republicans are killing the children and old people.

Please Sanity, tell me that this contemptuous dismissal of the inevitability of deaths among children, and the old - the most vulnerable sectors of society - please tell me it's a typo.

No one can be this heartless can they?

I'm sorry I just don't get it.

I am reading stories likes icandothis' and jlf's and they are bringing tears to my eyes. Such stories don't just not happen here - they are impossible unthinkable here. The notion that someone has to lose everything, to go bankrupt in order to get decent health care for their sick child is appalling, barbaric.

Yes we have 'socialised' medicine where I live, thanks be. Yes we have free-at-delivery cradle-to-grave universal access to a health system second to none for all citizens and residents, regardless of their condition or means.

And guess what, as a % of GDP (ie overall cost) we spend about half what the US pays.

So if you need to save money, and have a decent health system for all your citizens, you can do both at the same time. To me, that looks like a no-brainer. Am i missing something?

A lot more people will die under the Dem plan which is despite the fact that we are deep, deep, deep in a hole now, spend as much money as we possibly can as fast as we possibly can.

What do you suppose the consequences of that will be?

However cruel you imagine or pretend the  Republicans to be, the heartless Democrats evil plan is a million times worse.

Its unrealistic to pretend that we can do without our military in times like these, or that Dems dont like to play world cop. These defense expenses are more likely saving us money than costing us because its far cheaper to have a deterrence than to have to go to war for a lack of deterrence.

Again, it would be nice to see our allies shoulder their fair share of the defense load for a change.

As far as I know there are already spending caps on medicare. It's not an open system where you have unlimited cash. In fact if I read jlf's post correct it already doesn't cover enough to help him.

What does the military and 'world cop' even have to do with the frakking topic, Sanity? Is that your best attempt at a rebuttal on why the USA shouldn't cut medicare and medicaid? Or reduce Social Security further?

Even though your arguements are generally mindless and irrelvent, stick to the topic.

lord, I do believe liberalism IS a mental disease. That is why I don't debate them. Just defeat them. See a bum begging? Send them straight to the democrat headquarters in your town. o'bama be passin' out big money today. liberals always pass laws and exempt themselves from the pain. Make them feel what they want everybody else to do and obey. They won't learn (mentally ill don't learn), but it will be fun!

There is no money. What are we going to do?

The Dems didnt pass a budget last year at all when they were the majority party in both houses, they voted 'present' so they hardly have standing to piss and moan when the Republicans do submit a budget proposal.

This from Bloomberg:

quote:

Obama said the nation must deal simultaneously with the recession and the budget shortfalls. If not, “we risk sinking into another crisis down the road,” he said at a White House summit on fiscal responsibility that brought together lawmakers, business and labor leaders and academics.

“As our interest payments rise, our obligations come due, confidence in our economy erodes and our children and our grandchildren are unable to pursue their dreams because they’re saddled with our debts,” he said. “That’s why today, I’m pledging to
cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office.”

But neither he nor his party passed a budget at all, everything he and his party pledge is completely hollow. But when it comes time to bitch when someone else is actually doing something theres no one better at that than a Leftist.

Pretty simple from where I sit. Raise revenues.....Never ever, EVER going to cut your way to prosperity. Cut the Bush tax cuts out for the wealthy. Impose a sales tax on all stock transactions. Impose a 30% export fee on foodstuffs leaving this country........

Republicans arent the problem. There is only so much money, regardless of who is in charge. Because there are limited resources, which is just a fact of life, spending caps have always been in place and they always will be. Thats the case in Canada, in Cuba, in Germany and in Britain...

quote:

ORIGINAL: defiantbadgirl
If no politician of any party is for killing sick kids, why does the republican party want spending caps on medicaid? As for the rest of your post, I agree that it makes no sense for the government to require divorce and a family to lose everything to qualify for medicaid. Your experience is a perfect example of why the US needs single-payer health care.

Then answer the question. If grandma is in the nursing home and the money runs out on her benefit that the republicans propose....your solution is to put her in the street? Simple yes or no would do.

Just raise revenues?

Take money from people / businesses?

Why do you think the government (Obama) tried spending trillions on 'stimulus programs' to put more money in peoples and businesses hands during the recession.
