Ipod Shmipod! The only way to truly experience DSOTM is through a DECENT set of over the ear head phones while mellowing on a tasty buzz. [8D] I'm not saying I won't be in line to buy the new disks... just that those tiny little ear bud thing-a-ma-jigs just don't cut it when it comes to the Floyd boys.

Sorry, Marc, but I must disagree. DSOTM is for long drives in the middle of the night, and for fucking. I don't even have the earpieces for the ipod. It plays through the stereo. I wonder if there will be a 52 minute version of Dogs, in the re-release of Animals.

Can't wait for Moon to hit. But I really find it sad commentary that folks in the music industry are putting the Compact Disc out to pasture so easily (at least that's what continual articles make it sound like). And in favor of what? The all too LOSSY mp3? I spent close to 15 years working with other Grateful Dead tapers working out conventions that would allow for online music file formats that were robust and true to the dynamics expected of a Compact Disc and Audio DVD. And during that time I encountered a lot of coders working on codecs that were "good enough". And the 'good enough' they are talking about, just plain sucks. I have zero doubts that the Floyd folks will release something of monumental quality, cause well, that's just what they do.

Guys Dark Side of the Moon is a great album but its only 42 minutes long! A two disc set with bonus material might be OK at a stretch but a six disc set??? That is eight hours of capacity. One would expect loads of new songs but all that is mentioned is an up-tempo version of Money and a version of The Great Gig in the Sky" without the vocals - the very thing that made that track special. Its aimless speculation to say CD will die soon - back in 2001 or so people were saying CD was on the way out just as high street retail would all go online. I think there will be music sold in physical form for a long time, maybe CD or perhaps the audio only version of Blu-ray might take off.

Considering Pink Floyd has the greatest catalogue in the history of art through any medium, I'm incredibly excited to hear that they'll be adding some rarities to it. It really will be a shame if everything moves fully to downloading. I'd like to see the Gate-fold covers have a revival.

He fucked out Wright in 1979 who was in essence the main contributor of Floyd's sound and disposed of Gilmore in 82. [:o]

To create an album with the scope of The Wall is a feat that should be applauded by anyone with a few braincells and a pair of ears. Roger became overbearing but if everyone allows you to be the sole songwriter, you're going to become such. Wright also was dealing with a cocaine problem and was unproductive. Combine that with Roger's controlling nature, of course they were going to butt heads. Dark Side of the Moon is vastly superior to The Wall but The Wall is a historic composition warranting respect from both a musical and storytelling standpoint. The tour for it was also the most elaborate stage show ever at that time period and Roger's re-boot of it has taken the cake and will hold it's spot for a long time to come. Basically, what I'm trying to say is... your taste is bad and you should feel bad.

You are of course entitled to your opinion and taste in art can be subjective but I think even from an objective standpoint The Wall is utter toss. If you want to hear what a concept album should be in terms of narrative then check out "Berlin" by Lou Reed - it shares the same producer. The others didn't suddenly allow him to be the sole songwriter and even if they did that did not mean he should take over. Some band leaders don't contribute much material, e.g. Fripp in King Crimson. Wright who was the second songwriter decided to focus more on performance and production. Waters was sidelining the other members out since "Wish you were here" so TBH I don't think a coke habit figures too highly as a reason - he actually wanted to replace all the members because he didn't think they were up to it technically!!! lol Did he want to transform the band into Weather Report or what? [:D]
