I thought you were opposed to increased government regulation? The fact is that Wisconsin's voting procedure have worked quite well for decades. Making voting harder without good reason used to be antithetical to conservatives.

I thought they were against mandates. Seems not.

Even ou arent this stupid. You have to be playing some devils advocate game. Hint: To play devil's advocate you actually have to have a tenable position.

But in case you are this stupid, see flcouple's response. The first time we have ever agreed, afaik.

You're for smaller government and less regulation except when it helps keep people you support in elected office or its poking the nose of government into a woman's doctor's office.

Naw that's not hypocrisy. But if it isn't I don't know what to call it, supercallifragilistichypocrisy maybe?

jlf1961 -> RE: YouTube - Wisconsin Passes Voter Suppression Bill (5/20/2011 4:18:10 PM)

If the bill required such things as birth certificate OR passport to register to vote, I would see the problem, requiring photo id is just smart government.

WTF are you talking about? I have never said I am against regulations per se. Yes I am for regulations that I favor (and there are damn few that I am in favor of, so yes "smaller government", and Im against regulations that Im not in favor of. Thats not hypocrisy, thats common sense and if you claim you are any different youre a liar.

And you are totally wrong on my position on abortion, so stfu when you dont know what youre talking about.

Wisconsin is in the middle of a state wide recount and still no evidence of even a little vote fraud. In reality vote fraud is very rare nation wide but GOP controlled state houses are passing all sorts of new laws restricting access to polls, Florida just greatly shortened early voting as another example, claiming that they want to prevent vote fraud. In reality they want to prevent demographics that don't vote Republican from voting at all.

This is very telling evidence that the nationwide conservative movement does not value democracy as much as it values being in power, for the sake of being in power.

This simply isn't true.  ACORN (Obama's former employer) has been actively engorging voter rolls all over the country with phony people so they can stuff ballot boxes.  Indeed, they've been convicted of vote fraud.  It is an epidemic, and the main reason Democrats oppose making sure the people at the polling place are who they say they are, is because this has been a tradition for them going back decades.

More lies.

Obama never worked for ACORN.

ACORN was never convicted of vote fraud. Some ACORN employees were convicted of voter registration fraud, usually because other ACORN employees turned them in.

There has never been a substantiated case of vote fraud that could be traced to ACORN's voter registration efforts.

Just because you keep asserting something is a lie, doesn't mean it is:

Wall Street Journal

Obama led voter registration under "Project Vote" which included ACORN.  And in 1995, he represented the group as its attorney.

ACORN was convicted of felony compensation for registration of voters in Nevada on April 6.

Look at what you wrote... vote fraud.

From Factcheck.org

Neither ACORN nor its employees have been found guilty of, or even charged with, casting fraudulent votes. What a McCain-Palin Web ad calls "voter fraud" is actually voter registration fraud. Several ACORN canvassers have been found guilty of faking registration forms and others are being investigated. But the evidence that has surfaced so far shows they faked forms to get paid for work they didn’t do, not to stuff ballot boxes.

There is a difference.

As far as Project Vote....

Update, Oct. 21: We originally said that Project Vote works closely with ACORN, implying that Obama would have had contact with the group when he directed a voter registration drive for Project Vote in 1992. We have since learned that Project Vote and ACORN may or may not have worked together in Chicago that year. The group didn’t contract with ACORN exclusively back then. We have corrected the story to reflect this.

ACORN was convicted of felony compensation for registration of voters in Nevada on April 6.

ACORN attorney Lisa Rasmussen told Fox News that a plea agreement was worked out with the state attorney general. The violation was for unlawfully providing compensation for registering voters based on the total number of people registered. Sentencing for the organization is set for Aug. 10, and the potential fine is a maximum of $5,000.

This conviction was based upon wages paid to the registration workers. The actual conviction was based upon the following...

ACORN pleaded guilty to unlawful “compensation” for registration of voters, a felony under Nevada law. The plea came after senior ACORN executives Amy Adele Busefink and Christopher Howell Edwards were convicted of providing cash bonuses to voter-registration canvassers for exceeding daily registration quotas. Campaign workers received cash if they registered 21 voters or more. Fittingly, the Las Vegas-based program was called Blackjack.

joether -> RE: YouTube - Wisconsin Passes Voter Suppression Bill (5/21/2011 2:02:50 AM)

Since I turned 18, I've voted in EVERY state and federal election that has come to past. I've even voted for most local elections. The number of times I had to show my ID to vote: Zero. Is it because of my age? Education? Color of Skin? Height? Weight? Religion? Sex? And what is the difference between folks in Wisconsin and myself in Massachusetts? We vote for the same collection of Presidents, two Senators and a handful of Representatives every so often. Why should someone be forced to show their ID?

I'm surprised some of the more....conservative....folks want tighter regulations, rules, and inspectors. Worried that voter fraud is on the rise? Making a rule that someone has to show their ID, to prove they are who they state they are? What ever happened to that 'protection against illegal search and seizure'? I guess for conservatives, only the 2nd and 10th Amendment really matter to them in the Bill of Rights...

If someone accused me of not being who I state I am, who has the burden of evidence to show? Certainly not me, but rather the accuser. Isn't a citizen considered innocent, until proven guilty? Or is it the other way around? And when the idiot shows some mindless bit of information that is completely inaccurate and wrong, THEN, I'll show my ID. That should settle it with the law. Now the question is.....shouldn't I be allowed to hold my accuser to some level of accountibility? And if so, what would be considered fair and reasonable? Otherwise, each person would simply start accusing everyone else with totally blatant crap, slowing down the voting process to a near stand still.

Last I checked, the 4th Amendment trumps state law requiring someone to show their ID. I thought that was a 'platform' ideal of conservatives: less intrusive goverment?

Bullshit... Asking a registered voter for identification does not violate unreasonable search and seizures laws, and maybe Massivetwoshits doesn't care who votes, but I've lived in nine cities in four different states, including Chicago Illinois, and have been asked to provide a picture ID in each and every one of them in order to vote.

They ask for my id when I go to vote. Not sure what the big deal is. I have to carry it with me anyway. Personally I think some people just like to bitch.

Actually, tazzygirl, it's a distinction, not a difference.  When an organization and it's members sets out to load up the voter registration rolls with fraudulent/non-existent people, they are doing so with the intent of casting fraudulent votes.  Because they haven't been caught stuffing the box yet, doesn't mean they're not doing it, and at a minimum they are creating circumstances where it is possible/easy to do so. In the process, they are undermining the entire election.

TheCabal -> RE: YouTube - Wisconsin Passes Voter Suppression Bill (5/21/2011 4:57:38 AM)

Again, the problem has nothing to do with race/sex/etc.  It has to do with matching you up against your voter registration.  Leftist groups, such as ACORN, and their members have been working very hard to undermine the voter registration process all over the country for several election cycles now, in order to stuff ballot boxes.  Being required to produce ID means that when I. P. Freely, and Mike Hunt show up to vote, they need to actually be I. P. Freely and Mike Hunt, rather than just say they in order to get a ballot.

Without ACORN though, I imagine conservative groups probably wouldn't be pushing this.

I've often wondered if I tried to vote, if anyone would pick up on my status as a non-citizen. After all, when I first moved to Hawai`i, I was sent a jury summons notice in the mail. It happened again shortly after I moved to a different island. If I'd had the time, I would have gone just to see how far into the system I would have gotten.

Project Vote may have included ACORN but Obama ran the operation so he worked for the funder not for some organization that helped.

Obama worked for a law firm not for ACORN.

And ACORN was convicted of voter registration fraud not vote fraud.

So all my points were correct and you simply lied and no links to opinion columns in the WSJ will change that.
