Meh.  I will not be pulling a Lady Godiva until I lose 15-30 pounds and get rid of my "mommy tummy."  [&:]

Miss Linea is amused also!!!

So for my first meal I will be having 4 oz pork chop, fried in the non-stick pan with no fat; a green salad with some dried cranberries, onion & a little bacon & cheese & a drizzle of salad dressing. I am fortunate that I don't really like a lot of salad dressing. I just like the flavor to enhance the salad.

I think this thread is probably one of the most important threads available on the boards. . .

Perhaps humor and ponies get people to take their health seriously?  But I really doubt it.  It's hard work and it actually takes a REALLY serious attitude towards it to change.

So, since I think the humor and pawnies section is covered - I thought I'd try for something actually useful.  There was a gentleman by the name of Liet Muller in the early 1900's that released a daily - 15 min - exercise routine that EVERYONE could perform from children to grandparents.  It covers everything from stretching, to exercise, to toning, to weightloss.

It works, plain and simple, if you can control your eating.

There's an online version of it for free here  http://www.learntomuller.com/jp-mullers-my-system-table-of-contents/

I have my Mum and Dad on it as well as a slew of my g33k brethren.

Every morning, first thing, no excuses. . . and to those of you that are taking it seriously?  FREE VIRTUAL COOKIES, no fat, all you can eat. ;)

Good luck.

FelineFae -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 4:51:18 PM)

i'm not really changing my diet too much, just eating less and exorcising more.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 4:52:48 PM)

LastThoughts, I appreciate the spirit of your post.   The workout routine you posted sounds interesting and I'll be looking at it after I finish supper.  Supper is skinless, boneless chicken breast, green beans, and macaroni & cheese made with 2% milk.  Not as low cal/fat as it could be, but better than the fast food my husband is addicted to eating.  (Damn the skeletal man, he can eat absolutely anything and not gain a pound. [>:])

However, the tone of your post is a bit confrontational.  We're all familiar with each other so, yes, jokes and ponies do work to help maintain our motivation.  You might want to take that into consideration.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 4:55:43 PM)

Just because we show our silly side here doesn't mean than any of us is not serious about losing weight & getting into shape. But I'm not going to do much of anything if it's not fun & if I can't laugh. We just don't take ourselves too seriously down here in Random Stupidity. Sorry, I just can't call it Snippets. Sue me!

GhitaAmati -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 5:02:17 PM)

I keep starting a nice long post and a client walks up and distracts me. Darn these people. Haha.

I tried to post a picture of a really cute my little pony with butterflies but my phone wouldn't let me. Darn it.

I thought I should do a bit of my own background and what my goals are.

I'm 31, 5' tall, and currently 135 pounds. I'd be better off at about 115. I'm a fairly heavy lifter so I'll never be uber skinny and that's ok. I'm more about being healthy and functionally fit. I don't really care if my body is perfectly proportioned. I want to be able to pick up heavy things and move them.

I'm at the point in my fitness journey that I don't really care about the number on the scale, it could keep going up as long as my body fat percentage kept going down. But this past few months, the weight has gone up, along with the body fat. My workouts have suffered and I haven't kept my eating clean.

I try to follow something called "the zone" diet. Ill try and explain it one day when I'm not at work. I started my goal to be healthy when I was 175 pounds and a size 16 dress. I'm now in a size 3. I've still got a long way to go but I'm happy with my progress and the knowledge I've gained.

Stress at home, 13 hour work days, and injuries have definitly hindered my progress but I'm ready to get back into it.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 5:10:20 PM)

Count me in, but only if I get a pony too! Although, until I lose weight, the pony will have to ride me! (umm...that sounded worse than I meant for it to.)

Positives:
I've spent the last few months changing my eating habits from pizza, fast foods and candy to fruit smoothies and fresh veggies. I'm happy to say that after about 4 months of fruit smoothies, I have almost zero cravings for candy. In fact, the natural sugars in fruit taste so good to me now, I can't even stand the taste of chocolates and candies.

I also naturally lowered my cholesterol levels - which was a big concern because of my vasculitis/connective tissue diseases.

Cons:
Exercise is problematic for me. Pain and fatigue keep me from having the energy to do a lot, and very high blood pressure, from the vasculitis, keeps me from being able to overly exert myself. Kind of a catch-22. For a couple of months I was swimming every day, but now that I've moved I'm going to have to find a new way to get my exercise. An hour and half of driving isn't in my budget :(

I'm currently watching TBL finale and the finalists are all women this time.  You go girls!

If they can do it, we can do it.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 5:17:58 PM)

Ok, since everyone else is doing it...

I'm 65 years 1 month & 29 days old. I'm approximately 5'8" & weighed 272 on the Dr's scale today. Although I'm convinced that it weighs high, if i keep weighing on the same scale, I will see if I've lost or gained. I've had debilitating back pain for the last 5 months, which has kept me from exercising. I was homeless for a year & a half which was an incredible amount of stress, so I ate what I could when I could & sometimes that was a whole lot of really bad shit! Last year I lost 50 lbs. I've gained 40 of it back--if I believe this Dr's scale. I don't have very much money, so can't join a gym or buy a Wii or any of that. So basically, I try to walk as much as I can & watch what I eat.

When I do buy packaged foods, I read the nutrition information & try to only buy low in calories, fat & sodium. Last month I went to a new store & found a new product & for some reason bought it without reading the label. [&:] Yesterday I read the label & discovered that one serving has 41 gm fat & 660 mg of sodium!!! So those are going to the neighbors or into the garbage. And I had eaten 4 servings before I realized!

I was pretty thin & in good shape my whole life until a shrink decided to put me on an MAOI. She told me it "might cause a little weight gain." I gained 100 lbs in 10 months & I've been fighting my weight ever since. I have no desire to live the rest of my life crippled & in pain if losing weight & getting into shape can arrest that. Yeah I have arthritis everywhere, but diet & exercise can go a whole long way to keeping that under control.

So here I am, my lovelies. Let's do this!!!!

What Sylvere said regarding this post. We are individuals and friends here, and this is a thread for sharing. Most of your post makes sense, but it is not for you to tell others that a method of amusement in communication is not useful. If you'd like to contribute in a positive manner that does not presume to tell us that we may not be taking it seriously from your POV, we welcome you to do so. If not, then I wish you well just the same, but ask that you more or less go play in your own sandbox. Thank you.

EDITED to add this: LastThoughts, you need to learn to laugh, even at the serious stuff. Your post suggests that you have no idea how useful laughter can be, in veritably all situations with the possible exception of church. And the police station, maybe. Laughter has been known to set the mood of a person so that fear did not inhibit them, and cured their illnesses and such. I thought you might want to take this into consideration, as well.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programme..

GhitaAmati -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 5:28:04 PM)

Those of you who know me from the "I admit" thread, might remember that I admitted I was going off my meds a week or two ago. Part of my reasoning is that I was starting to wonder if the anti-anxiety meds were causing some of my weight gain and lack of workout motivation. It obviously hasn't been long enough off of them to really tell on the weight but I think my energy level is defi itly up. Of course, that also means hyperactiveness and self destructive behaviour might come back. Oh well. Those are usually the fun times in my life anyway!!

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 5:31:19 PM)

Well, I took a gander at the workout link LastThoughts posted.

Yeah, not so much.  I doubt this will work for anyone who has knee problems since there are lots of knee bends.  I don't think it would be good for people with back problems either since there's a fair amount of body twisting and bending.  Show it to your doctor before you try it.  For people without special health considerations, it's probably a good warm up or light exercise routine on days between heavier workouts.

GhitaAmati -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (5/24/2011 5:35:02 PM)

I kinda see where LastThoughts is coming from. There are times when I tell clients to stop with the kidding amd focus and as long as they consider gym time to be joke time, they're never going to get anywhere.

BUT...this thread isn't gym time. And I'm all for any excuse to get new my little ponies. Have you SEEN how much they are going for on ebay now??! Daddy says I don't need anymore but really....I do.
