willbeurdaddy -> CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 12:08:27 PM)

They changed the headline after somebody with a brain realized their dicks were exposed.

The next time one of your liberal friends tells you there isn't any bias in the media, show him or her the following headline published Tuesday by CNN Money's senior writer Jeanne Sahadi.

"Wingnut Debt Ceiling Demands" was actually placed directly above a picture of Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, and Florida senator Marco Rubio:

It didnt get all that much better with the replacement headline: "Goofy debt ceiling demands"

Well read the article...those list of demands don't appear out of line to you?

Stiff the NLRB: The mostly staff-free GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said recently he thinks lawmakers should insist in the debt ceiling talks that funding be cut for the National Labor Relations Board

Overhaul the regulatory structure: Freshman GOP Sen. Marco Rubio proffered a long list of demands that he wants met before he would support a debt ceiling increase.

Writing in a Wall Street Journal opinion article this spring, Rubio's list included several demands pertaining to the budget: entitlement reform, tax reform, discretionary spending cuts and a balanced budget amendment.

Putting aside for the moment that realistically speaking such a list is too large to be accomplished in a few months, Rubio then added an entirely extraneous demand: overhaul the regulatory structure.

Drill for oil in ANWR: Former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, who may or may not run for president, has said she would never vote to raise the debt ceiling because she -- incorrectly -- believes that doing so is just a sop for big spenders.

But if the cap is going to be raised, she said on "Fox News Sunday," politicians "better get something out of it for 'we the people.' "

Palin suggested that Democratic Sen. Mark Begich of Alaska should allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge a condition of his vote to raise the debt ceiling.

Begich, who is on record as favoring the opening of ANWR, nevertheless told Politico that Palin is "not really on my radar screen to take advice from."

Seems like a lot of obstruction to what is needed in the short term, holding the rest of the USA hostage for the particular things you want?...A real short sighted way of trying to do business. Of course Rubio is the only one with any say, the others are soon to be "also rans"
I'd say they qualify as wing nut demands...not exactly helping the cause to get the ball rolling.

It has nothing to do with the content. What tradeoffs there should be (if any) are open to debate. Calling anyone a "wingnut" for their opinion is unacceptable for a supposed news organization in a factual (not opinion) article. In addition, I have little doubt that the article spins many of the positions based on that headline.

Well, that is the most scathing review of Faux Nuze I have seen from you to date, other than when you said something they said was accurate.

SilverMark -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 12:43:26 PM)

However, Junior Senator Marco Rubio drives a little bit harder bargain with his compromises. On voting to raising the debt ceiling, Rubio said:

“I will vote to defeat an increase in the debt limit unless it is the last one we ever authorize and is accompanied by a plan for fundamental tax reform, an overhaul of our regulatory structure, a cut to discretionary spending, a balanced-budget amendment, and reforms to save Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”
Mr Rubio's quote on the subject

Ms. Palin:
Sen. Mark Begich is turning a deaf ear to Sarah Palin’s demand that he make drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge a condition for his vote to approve raising the nation’s debt ceiling.

“She’s not really on my radar screen to take advice from,” the Alaska Democrat told reporters Tuesday.

Not much spin there Wil....seems as though the article with the title you are un happy about, is pretty much what has been said. I am not going to bother with Newt because, Who Really Cares what Newt has to say?

If you want to discuss the debt ceiling and positions on it, start a thread. That ISNT what this one is about. Can I get any clearer than that?

just answering you comment Wil...You know me..I am helpful like that![:D]

I understand your dislike of the headline, but it doesn't change the content.
I am certain if I go looking I can find one that offends the left just as well....It isn't hard to quote from the Standard or Fox, or a few others I know of.

SilverMark -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 12:51:07 PM)

lol...I am not so sure that using term Wingnut, in the case of these 3 isn't factual reporting....Rubio, Gingrich and Palin?...might be...

I challenge you to find any from Fox Business in a news article that rise to the level of a personal attack like "wingnut".

Damn Wil...to do that I'd actually have to go to the Fox site...then I'd have to go home and shower...I have advertisers to meet with in 30 minutes, I'd never make it back in time![sm=car.gif]

Of course he does...we disagree but do so respectfully just like Sanity and, Merc when he was around and Thadeus, who taught me a lot about making sense out of the postings here a Loooong time ago!

BamaD -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 1:15:30 PM)

Can't say much on this except that I quit paying attention to CNN when they admitted to running Iraqi propaganda pieces as news during the first Gulf War , for example the Arnett "milk factory" report.

You're a keypal of his, not a friend though. I was thinking more of meat acquaintances.

noreleaseever -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 1:25:32 PM)

I find it incredible that people here (on CM and in the US) think there is such a thing as an unbiased news network on TV/online.

How naive can you get?

It's sad that in the US it is virtually impossible to find truthfully written, un-spun political news. Fox, MSNBC, CNN, are all biased. My advice is watch the network which makes you cringe/vomit the least, and the other for pure comedy and entertainment.

As for the headline issue in this thread, at least the journalist that wrote it was writing what he believed. No-one says you have to agree with him.

Hillwilliam -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 1:36:03 PM)

There is NO such thing as unbiased media.

The sooner people understand and accept that fact, they better off they are.

Look at several different sources from aorund the political spectrum. Separate Raw Data from "spin".

It's called "separate facts from fluff".

Filter out the outright lies. Do mainstream media sources lie? Damn right they do.

Analyze the data yourself and make up your OWN mind.

Don't be a dittohead or a sheeple.

THINK for fuxsakes.

Moonhead -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 1:38:51 PM)

It's news to me that liberals claim there's an unbiased media in any case: on here they seem to be almost as pissed off about Murdoch as Wilbur is about Turner...

BamaD -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 1:44:14 PM)

Yes but they claim it is because they are truth and Fox is biased.
