BamaD -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 3:12:23 PM)

Kendom your problem with FNC is that you believe they lie.  M y problem with CNN is that I believe they lie and that they have even admitted to helping an enemy during wartime (Gulf War),  That is my reason for disbelieving CNN.  All major networks also had proof that the Iraqi reports of damage to our Air Forces at the beginning of the war was a lie and nobody pointed it out.  We didn't get FNC at the time but the rest destroyed their believability with me.  Don't feel bad about not noticing this you had to speak Arabic to see it.

Nonsense.... they were under the same lights. The same waked out fuckers said it was his refusal to wear make-up that made him look pale. My Dad always told me the biggest reason Americans in the east rejected Nixon was because he was Joe McCarthy's bootlicker henchman. John Chaffey, a republican and close friend of the family said the same thing of Nixon. Course that was when the GOP wasn't off the wall nuts and they had decent men running for office.
It figures that you would present the Great Polarizer as some kind of 'woe is me' poster child.
Crazy people are apparently always in denial... not just when picking their screen name

CNN showed propoganda from the Iraqi government to protect their reporters. I think that is a reasonable thing to do. Anyway no one believed Baghdad Bob and his nonsense. FNC lies simply to advance their POV. That is an unreasonable thing to do.

Thanks... I forgot to point out in regard to the claim about Walter Cronkite that he presented his opinion piece at the end of every newscast as did all other journalists and THE WORLD KNEW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAT AND THE NEWS.
And if it is characterized that Walter Cronkite ended the Vietnam War with his personal views, god love em. BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT OF THE DAY WAS MORE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING SENT UP ALONG WITH THE FELONS HE HIRED TO SUBVERT THE CONSTITUTION! IOW... he was a little to busy to actually do anything about all the young Americans being killed.

They could have pulled out their reporters like everyone else did.  I was in the military at the time.  Treason is never the reasonable thing to do.  And the CNN POV includes that Iraq was no better or worse than the U S.

You are in a thread thats exposed some pretty blatant bias at CNN

Oh bullshit

How many people here have ever worked in a news room?  I have my hand up do you?

I can tell you EXACTLY what happened.

Some fools in the production department were clowning around and thought they made a funny.  I can promise it wasn't the first time but will be the last for awhile.  It's all good fun and games till somebody fucks up and one of those graphics, stories, edits, etc accidentally makes the air or posted on the web.

Now somebody is getting fired.

Back n the 80's when I was working at a station in Louisiana there was a big running story on making the shrimpers at the time use the turtle excluder devices (TEDS).  It was a big story there because shrimping is such a major part of the economy.

I at the time was working as the assistant director.  Myself and one of the directors made a on air graphic for "teenage mutant ninja turtle excluder devices".  The story was coming after the break and we set the graphic in the rotation to pop up in the monitor during the commercial break.  It was all good fun when we heard the person directing the 6 o'clock news over the headsets, "you bastards".  It never saw the air but the news producer had a major melt down.

Feel free to rant and make all the ideas you want but your wrong.

They changed the headline after somebody with a brain realized their dicks were exposed.

The next time one of your liberal friends tells you there isn't any bias in the media, show him or her the following headline published Tuesday by CNN Money's senior writer Jeanne Sahadi.

"Wingnut Debt Ceiling Demands" was actually placed directly above a picture of Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, and Florida senator Marco Rubio:

It didnt get all that much better with the replacement headline: "Goofy debt ceiling demands"

And here is what a blog said about Jeanne Sahadi (author of this article that proves she is biased against republicans) in 2008

Jeanne Sahadi Shows CNN Bias

Today CNNMoney.com senior writer Jeanne Sahadi gave what on the surface appears to be a fair and balanced analysis of the competing tax plans being floated by Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain. You can view it here:

http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/11/news/economy/candidates_taxproposals_tpc/index.htm?cnn=yes

However, whether she knows it or not, Sahadi gives the reader a slanted view of the two proposals and of economic theory in general, by citing quotes and findings from The Tax Policy Center as pad for her article.

Two minutes of research is all that is required to discover that The Tax Policy Institute is little more than an arm of the Brookings Institution, a left of center think tank in Washington DC.

Edited to add, it is not the first time she has been accused of bias... it seems as though her detractors do not like her views of economic and tax policies.

Just because they have proven their bias doesn't mean I don't check them out.  How often do you tune into FNC

Actually one of the producers later bragged about helping Kennedy out.  It was the first televised debate neither candidate knew the right makeup to wear but according to this producer CBS saw to it that Kennedy's was right.

fast reply

Just because someone has a certain perspective from which they are reporting does not mean that their reporting has no merit

Most news has some bias of some sort. Most of the news here is pro Capitalism, pro corporation, pro American interests... etc etc etc

Edited to add, to say the entire CNN organization is biased based on one report is a bit out of line

It wasn't just one report, it was just the most glaring example of a pattern. Sorry but I am not the snap judgement wacko you are trying to cast me as being.

My post had nothing to do with yours, if you look at the top of the post, it says "fast reply" ... meaning a fast reply to the general thread and not one particular poster.

My point is that certain individuals have jobs within the media, and that they have biases, which we all do because we are human.

The larger question is what is the overarching motive of news organizations themselves....

When people complain about "liberal bias" within the media I would love them to open their mind to an analysis of the media undertaken by Noam chomsky, there was a book that he wrote about it that later became a documentary in which he discusses the corporatization of the media... how certain decisions get made as to what to cover and what not to cover based upon larger corporate aims. It does not matter who the individual reporters are if the structure is corporate, because the corporate message is the message that will most often be manufactured by such organizations.

Here is a link to the documentary online:

Manufacturing consent....

So you suggest opening one's mind to an analysis of media bias by one of if not the furthest left contributor to the MSM? Thanks, I'll take the studies done by any number of more or less independent universities (despite their (albeit less virulent) bias).

I would hope that you could look at his evidence, which is not about partisan politics, etc, but about what actually comes out of the news media, who owns the media, what gets left out of the reporting by the media...

Now, if you can't even watch or read something that disagrees with your world view, how can you ever expect to contradict it logically. I challenge you to watch that documentary and come back with a list of ways his analysis is logically flawed... unless of course you would rather argue the person rather than his ideas.

slvemike4u -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 5:01:14 PM)

Bama Johnson's Presidency ended in 1968.....lol,do you actually know when the Vietnam war ended?
Conkrite's editorial ,which he gave at the end of his newscast is famously credited with turning public opinion against the war.He told his audience, after the Tet offensive that it was his opinion that we could not win,and we were wasting the lives of young American serviceman by continuing the conflict....up to that point the bulk of anti war protesters were easily dismissed as hippies and malcontents.....after Tet and Conkrites editorial opposition to the war became much more mainstream...so much so that Nixon(or was it Agnew?) coined the term " the silent majority" to describe that portion of Americans who still supported the war effort.

I wasted two hours of my life watching it when it was first broadcast, I have no need to do it again.

I watch CNN if something is happening in the "now", like lets say I am interested in the pope dying, well I know CNN will cover that shit nonstop day and night (not that I am interested in that, mind you, but it is an example of breaking news coverage). I have little use for CNN otherwise. It is boring, really. It isn't because it doesn't have a bias that it is boring, it is because it is boring that it is boring.

Now, I am the sort that realizes EVERYONE has a lens through which they tell a story. The entire idea that people should pretend that they do not as some "objective" reporter is laughable to me. Better to admit your biases than pretend you do not have them. I do not think it makes a person less credible, but it does tell you that you should take in many sources of news to get anything resembling "fair and balanced"

My entire problem with Fox is that it pretends to be that which it isn't. And hypocritically I might add, because by saying others aren't fair and balanced, when they are more so than Fox makes Fox a joke to anyone who can add 2 +2
