I would say though that they were far less biased before a guy named Rupert Murdock started messing around with the media of a foreign country aka the United States. But that's just me. Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley, guys like that... they seemed to be interested in offering two sides to as many arguments as possible.
   I miss those guys.

A lot has changed in 40 years. Not all of it good.

I believe it was Stephen Colbert who said of George Walker Bush -

Translation - certain leftists miss the "good old days" when they had full control of the media and free speech and the free and open exchange of ideas was only a fairytale.

Freedom of  speech threatens many leftists... which is the primary reason I refuse to refer to them as liberals

The last thing they are is liberal, in fact

Sanity -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 2:49:10 PM)

Yes, absolutely.

It was Walter Cronkites hand picked heir who was forced to resign in disgrace after he was caught lying about George W. Bush's service record, quite obviously pulling hard for the Kerry campaign in a very underhanded manner.

All the alphabet networks have been skewed far to the left for a very long time

Here you were claiming to have some knowledge of how much bias there is and has been in the media... yet how little you really know..

BamaD -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 2:51:57 PM)

They kept it pretty much in check but yes they were liberals but they were journalists first.   Today stories never get to the screen if they violate the liberal world view not that they filter them but conflicting information is just considered the exception and of no importance.

That appears to be his accusation. maybe he thinks you have to go back to William Randolph Hearst to have what he considers balanced journalism.

William Randolph Hearst (April 29, 1863 – August 14, 1951) was an American newspaper magnate and leading newspaper publisher.[1]
Hearst entered the publishing business in 1887, after taking control of The San Francisco Examiner from his father. Moving to New York City, he acquired The New York Journal and engaged in a bitter circulation war with Joseph Pulitzer's New York World which led to the creation of yellow journalism sensationalized stories of dubious veracity. Acquiring more newspapers,
Hearst created a chain that numbered nearly 30 papers in major American cities at its peak. He later expanded to magazines, creating the largest newspaper and magazine business in the world.

Yes but they claim it is because they are truth and Fox is biased.

No. I have never seen any liberal claim any media source is unbiased. Our problem with FNC is that they lie routinely and present opinion as news.

umm scuse me is there part of US history I missed regarding free speech .It was under "full leftist? control?

Sanity -> RE: CNN tries to hide its bias, but too late (6/14/2011 2:57:46 PM)

One thing that is said about Cronkite was that his personal views were what really and truly ended the Vietnam war.

The bias was there, there just werent any bloggers working to uncover it, or any competition willing to publish, say, JFKs relationship with Marylin Monroe and his alleged connection with her death

I forget which network it was that put the heat on Nixon during the Kennedy / Nixon debate, causing Nixon to sweat so profusely that it may have cost him that race

There are many interesting tidbits of media bias out there, for those whose minds are open enough to acknowledge their existence

PRETTY MUCH????
Hahahahaha ... They were a better class of journalists than this country saw in it's entire history. I should have added Edward R. Murrow.
As to your 'proclamation' about "today's stories' how are we to even give you a handicap on being correct when you implied in the post I replied to that you don't follow the previously mentioned news sources since what? The first gulf war???? My comparison between you and the address to the white house press dinner by Colbert is pretty spot-on then.

You are in a thread thats exposed some pretty blatant bias at CNN ken, but you have no observations regarding that?

As Ive written before, the real problem with FOX NEWS for leftists like yourself is that you cant stand the free and open exchange of ideas

Cronkite was a huge liberal, probably to the left of all but the loonies here. His greatness was that he never let it creep into his reporting. An aide of his commented that until he retired he/she never knew what his politics were. Once he retired his liberal politics were a focus of his interviews.

Huntley and Brinkley were pretty obviously liberal even when they were reporting.

He obviously thinks that contracts and severance packages and face saving can be done overnight.
