i mean used to when a man would open a door or pull out a chair for a woman it was called being a gentleman. now if he does it, hes called a pig or chauvinist.  when a woman wants to be obedient to a man, society looks at her like shes not a real woman or something.  a man takes control over his woman, and society looks at him like he must be forcing her or she must be a victim.   so do you think society has made it hard for men to be real men and take control?

Well, I still open doors, and frankly I don't give a shit if anyone likes it or not.

(Now, to be frank, I charge $5.00 per situation to do so.....but I still do so).

But, in answer to your question....yes....it's harder to be a man in this day and age than when I was a kid (some) years back.

Often you're (men) abused for being gallant.

Makes you wonder why women are pissed....when men are trying so hard.

(I still want $5.00).

Oh really?  Find me the post in which I expressed any such opinion about lesbians Heather or kindly admit that you simply make shit up.

Intellectual honesty is such a rare trait.  You'd do well to consider the virtue of employing it now and then.

When was the last time you saw a man being abused for being polite and opening a door?

I've been impressed with Heather's posts, she's not pretending to be some intellectual heavyweight, but she thinks about it before she writes instead of regurgitating a bunch of Randist agitprop.

Thinking for yourself w/respect maintaining a certain degree of formal objectivity is how you get to become an intellectual heavyweight.

Happened to me about 18 years ago.  Opened a door at a post office for an older (then {she} 48...I was 30 something)...got told (to my still amazement)  "I can open a fucking door myself you know!!!!!!"

Never forgot that....caught me entirely off guard....wanted to say..."fine you piece of lowlife human fucking sewage....let me shut this fucker in your gawdamn face as well" (said of course, in the most submissive of ways LOL).

I generally don't treat women "traditionally" or act a certain way towards women because they are female.

To be honest, I would consider what she said as rude and lacking all social graces, but not as abusive. I might have been tempted to say something like "Oh, I was told to be nice to elderly ladies" and made her day [:)]

But you know, something that happened 18 years ago once to you, I hardly would consider that a regular occurrence, yet this myth about guys get abused for being gents persists... Makes you wonder who creates those rumors and what they are trying to achieve? I think it's the people who want to put back time, you know have women shackled to the kitchen sink (possibly because they're worried about the competition in the work place by women) and call it the "good old days"... Seems the ministry of misinformation is doing overtime...

True. I've never come across it. Not once, in my entire life. And if any man should have come across it, it should have been me: I mixed with the most left-wing females imaginable when I was studying Politics at Uni.

It seems to me that we're in the presence of exactly the same repulsive right wing propaganda that existed during the days of the suffragettes: that of the evil viragos who had pig-like personalities to go along with their hideously unnatural demands to have the vote.

It's crap. Everyone has 'heard' of the 'feminist' who gets vinegary about having a door opened for her, but no-one has actually met one.

LadyConstanze -> RE: do you think society has made it hard for men to be real men? (6/25/2011 12:40:18 PM)

I shall make a point to abuse you when you open the door for me... Though I'm afraid you would like it too much [:D]

PeonForHer -> RE: do you think society has made it hard for men to be real men? (6/25/2011 1:13:28 PM)

Nup. For me, it's just ladylike good manners for a woman to caress a man's testicles fondly as she walks through the door he's just opened. Well, it is in Italy or Germany, anyway, where women are brought up to be properly feminine.

That explains those chocolate stains!  [;)]

Didn't see it...I experienced it.

Probably 15 - 20 years ago.

Post office, held the door for a woman about 45....got "I can open my own damn doors, than you very much!"

So I simply smiled and said "and a fine fuck you to you too".

Didn't say or suggest it was a regular occurrence, just that it happened.

The fact that it even did under those conditions is a statement all by itself about (some) women.

Not all.

Personally, (naturally, as a sub) I believe women have all the power, but as a man who was raised well, it just seems the polite thing to do.

To be chastised for it was abominable, uncalled for, showed her (entire lack of) class...and I certainly wasn't scarred for life by any measure....just amazed.

SabreToothFemme -> RE: do you think society has made it hard for men to be real men? (6/26/2011 6:53:49 PM)

There is not one definition of being a men or a "real" men.
Society is made by the people of which the given society consists, therefore society is not an dark, unknown power who can make something hard for a group, not even for the *cough* real men.

Questions like that are quite funny for me, because male and female roles are changing through the story of mankind on the one hand and on the other hand there are some biological facts that are given.

In my experience real men and women are not hindered in any way by society.

It's nice that you're so easily impressed, but what on earth makes you think I give a flying fuck what you think?

Honestly, whiny bitches would be better served by thinking before they speak, rather than simply presuming their opinion is one that's worth expressing.  Usually, it isn't.

As we both agree on, an absolutely rare occurrence by one impolite member of society. But some clueless males (won't even denounce men by labeling those sad cases as men) try to blame it all on feminism and a failure to keep the "bitches under control and in their place" - what it usually boils down to is, those are the guys who couldn't get laid for love or money, instead of having a good hard look into the mirror and seeing that it's them and the fact that they are repulsive, they rather try to blame others for their failures and proudly announce their standards are too high, yeah right, and a few barrels of that snake oil please...

My opinion of a real man is one that takes care of himself and wants to care for those he loves.

Doesn't a "real woman" also do these things?

You ask that in a manner that suggests the two are mutually exclusive. They don't have to be, depending on one's personal definition.
