Personal safety is used many times as a reason by some who have guns because they likes guns but safety is not an immediate concern.  There are many who arm themselves because of a genuine threat to their personal safety or because of incidents that were close calls and they think to themselves I'll never be in that helpless position ever again. I don't think either is moronic.

One could say moronic is some one who needs a gun but won't have one because they hate them or they say something like "when it's my time to go then it's my time to go" and just accept their fate.

Did she just take a safety course or a course to get her concealed carry permit ?  Maybe she is qualified to have a gun in her home barring any safety concerns with kids.

There are way way more people than you think who are qualified to carry a handgun.

Some might fall apart or chicken out when it comes down to reachin for that gun but many situations will end in disaster regardless.

I have NEVER seen a semi-automatic pistol go off from being dropped.  I have seen that happen with a revolver.

You can make any firearm discharge if it is loaded and you act like a big enough fool, and abuse it accordingly.

As for the woman in the Zone, it is generally considered really bad form in any part of North America I have been, to point a loaded weapon at anyone else, or even to pull one out and wave it around in a public place for anything less then a human life being at stake, no matter how cute you think that laser it has is.

You can't just make any loaded firearm go off by bangin it around.

For the record:

The woman is an idiot who needs to be slapped.

Rule #1 of gun ownership is that there is no such thing as a unloaded gun.

Rule #2 is that you don't point the gun at anything you don't intend to shoot.

Rule #3 is always check your target (hey Dick?! Ya listening?!)

Rule #4 is no bluffing. If the situation is serious enough that you have to draw a gun... then it is serious enough that you have to shoot.

Rule #5 is shoot to kill. If the situation is serious enough that you have to shoot then you don't take any chances... pump the mother fucker full of lead (if by some miracle they survive then whoop-di-fucking-do for them).

I'm not claiming to be an expert or trying to make people believe that. I do claim to have quite a bit of knowledge and experience which makes it easy for me to post on this subject. 

Gun safety for the average adult, excluding morons, is pretty cut and dry, at least for ownership and target usage. As long as the gun newbie is well versed on gun safety, on the operation of his particular type of gun, and safety concerning his kids, he's pretty much qualified to have one in the home. It doesn't take a college degree to learn and understand gun safety, it's pretty much easier to learn than it is to learn how to drive a car.  Though you are partially correct, when it comes to the use of deadly force there is a great deal many more factors than will ever be covered in a concealed carry permit course.
