kiarsia -> Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 4:20:28 PM)

I left the room for 5 seconds to refill my chocolate milk and my dog stole my seat and it had me laughing so hard I thought about coming here to post about it and then realized...there ISNT a dog thread. There's umpteen threads about whatever the hell your cat is doing or what you should do with your cat. But no damn threads about dogs.

So heres a thread about dogs.

Mines a bit silly and could probably use a bath but if I even dare utter the word I wont see her for the rest of the night. What idiotic thing is your dog doing (other than sleeping or farting.....)

Mine just got back from a walk.. I have no idea how to post a picture attachment so I can't show it. They are both exhausted cuddled up on the same pillow.

Mine are at home sleeping.

1 Geriatric bloodhound

1 14 month old half lab, half whatthefuckever jumped the fence.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 6:00:16 PM)

Oh the lab is going to be fun, they have big appetites...

I took mine out for a play in the park in the dark (bit of sniffy for them, especially if I hide myself or one of their toys) and they almost killed me, did a bit of play fighting with them and letting them chase me, then chased them, then ran away and hid, they found me and jumped up on me with great delight and massive speed, I exhaled all air swiftly and will possibly have a bunch of bruises tomorrow....

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 6:32:38 PM)

why the hell don't we ever talk about dogs? because dogs suck. big teeth and small brains make a lousy fucking pet.

soul2share -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 6:49:28 PM)

Dogs are cool, too, and yours is adoraable!!!!  My parents have a dog that goes trucking with them.....and the two kittehs!  My sister has a chocolate lab that thinks he's a lap dog.......takes three laps, but by God, he'll BE a lap dog!!!!

My faamily doesn't have a total preference for dogs vs cats, we grew up in a zoo.   I prefer caats onlky because they are a lot more comvenient for me.  I work weird hours, and don't have to worry about getting home to take them out.  But they are by no means anti-social.......they interact with me like dogs.......they always are someplace close by, they meet me at the door when I get home, they talk to me.   I talk to them, and the understand what I'm saying......they may not DO what I tell them when I want them to do it, but they know what I'm saying.

Cause on a kinky site we should be talking about pussy and chicks........

Mine is a Black Lab and Golden Retriever mix and he's about to turn a year. He's amazingly sweet and loveable. But, he eats EVERYTHING. I now buy my socks and panties at costco and this morning I woke up to find that he ate one of my hardcover Sleeping Beauty books...considering I haven't seen the book in months I've no idea where he found it to eat it.

Right now he's just chewing away on a bone because I took him to the dog park earlier and he's now completely pooped. Normally I take him for a two hour walk daily as well but I'm too darn busy these next two days to wear myself out and not get done what needs to be done.

I've no idea how to post pictures of him, either.

My corgi/Aussie cattle dog mix is awesome.  He brought me his rope toy the other day and I told him I didn't want it.  I told him to bring me his ball and he did.  The goofy little guy cracks me up on a daily basis.  He's currently nomming on a rolled rawhide chew bone.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 8:58:33 PM)

I used to think I was a cat person. And then I met Spike the Amazing Wonder Dog. You're right, Hannah, they are not great thinkers. But they are pretty wonderful. I no longer have a dog, but I have many many dog stories. Spike was my best friend & we were together pretty much 24/7 for 3 1/2 years. He was a truckin dog. He was my therapy animal: he calmed me when I had panic attacks. He didn't need a big brain for the things he did for me. I miss him daily.

Wont regale people with stories of my boys, as just too many to get through ... and I'm supposed to be working.
However I will say that dogs are not stupid, not by a long shot! Sure, some are smarter than others, for that matter so are people.
And I would take a dumb dog who doesn't care that he is dumb, over a human who *thinks she or he is smart* any day of the week.

edited for the ing on the end of work.[:-]

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 9:49:15 PM)

Nope, dogs are not stupid. Just not great thinkers. None of them understand DesCartes, for example...

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 11:02:18 PM)

my dog is a great little guy. :) he's getting old, though, which makes me sad. he turned 10 last month and seems to have really started aging. =( (noooo don't die, little dude!! ahhh!!)
but he's so smart; he picks up all sorts of things without me actually sitting him down and teaching him, and then when i say something haphazardly, thinking it'll be funny, he actually responds and does what i've said, which is just awesome. ^_^ he just sorta seems to learn things from hearing people use words in particular ways.
he gets ridiculously excited if he thinks there's a possibility he'll get to ride in the car -- he gets cabin fever, but with it being so hot here lately, and him being a little old, i've just been keeping him home and not taking him out.

he'll only actually eat a milkbone or other treat if you harass him with it. he likes to pretend that he doesn't see them, or that he's ignoring them. if you give one to him straight from the box, he'll put it down and look at you like "what is this?" you have to bop him on the nose or poke him and just generally harass him, and then he "gets mad" and attacks it. ^_^ it's so funny. ^_^

yay dogs. ^_^

eta: i agree with willow. give me a dumb dog over a "look how smart i am" person any day. though i will say, i've met more dumb people than dumb dogs in my life.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/20/2011 11:23:56 PM)

LOL, Lilly. You reminded me of when I hadn't had Spike long but he was beginning to get the hang of being a pet. I would get him those green treats that look like little toothbrushes. He couldn't just eat it. We had to play with it first. I was required to hide it & then he would find it & give it back to me so we could do it all over again. And when he'd played enough with it, he'd growl at me when I'd try to take it & he'd eat it. Silly ass mofo!!!

Nope, but mine understand that if they push a chair from one end of the kitchen to the other, said chair works as a great stepladder and dog can climb up on it to get to the gravy pot. Thought I had a burglar in the kitchen only to find said arrangement and gravy pot on the floor and 2 sheepish looking dogs with the "bummer, rumbled" expression on their faces and gravy around the muzzles... Nothing I like better than mopping a floor at 4 am.... (Though they had cleaned most of it off anyway)

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/21/2011 6:04:55 AM)

totally :) dogs are excellent thinkers. one thing i dont like about humans is their inability to see anything through any lens but their own. maybe my dog doesn't write dissertations on politics, but he's pretty good at working out rube goldbergeque methods of escaping fences. =p
the doggies before him would get into the fridge in the middle of the night, and open doorknobs, sneak into rooms, and get their favorite clothes or rugs to lay on, and drag them into the living room.

DesFIP -> RE: Why the hell dont we ever talk about dogs? (7/21/2011 8:15:09 AM)

No dog presently, but had two great golden retrievers in my life. The first had two shining moments. First one was when we went for ice cream, and came back to the car to discover a crowd around it. She had gotten into the drivers seat and was sitting up, paws on the wheel, ready to drive home. The second was when she drove a bear away and she was terrified of bears. Her usual response was to flee into the house and hide from it. But when she saw it at the back door, she threw herself at it, growling repeatedly until it turned tail and left.

The second golden knew that if you drove through the bank drive through, the tube would be returned with a milk bone. He would lie down in the back seat until you got to the bank, and then sit up with head out the window so they would see him. Both were natural therapy dogs, comforting if you needed them, willing to lie with you as long as you needed.
