Status: offline 		We've seen a couple of currently locked threads where people jumped to conclusions about whether the attacks were performed by Muslims and whether such premature judgments were valid. I think, given similar attitudes and a very similar rush to judgment on the part of the media (as articulated by Salon's Glenn Greenwald in this article), I am inclined to cut people some slack. Note that I am not suggesting that people should be absolved for rushing to erroneous conclusions. But, living immersed in an environment where the media itself is susceptible to similar bias, one can at least begin to understand the reasons behind it.

And if anyone is interested in how the initial notion that Muslims were behind it spread (at least, in the media), here's a fairly decent analysis.

Status: offline 		I dont recall anyone jumping to conclusions, just commenting on likelihood. My odds were 3:1, and I think a 75% chance that any terrorist attack in Norway is still pretty reasonable.

Well you would say that, wouldnt you. ABM sure jumped to a swift conlusion and you were not far behind.

Muslims? Hell in Yahoo News the Wacko Lefties were saying it was "Israel" and "the Mossad" that did it!
And that was maybe a *half hour* after it hit the wires!
It's just common sense to reserve judgement about things like this until the facts come out.
A "similar attack" doesn't mean similar people.

P.S. I'm just waiting for the Lefties to try to blame this on "global warming" or some other such nonsense, it's just a matter of time

its nice to see that some are wising up and pointing the finger at the most likely candidates that commit acts of terror.

gubbermints at large.

its a good sign of needed remidial cleanup around the corner

You most CERTIANLY knew what ABM was talking about, since you more or less posted multiple times on the same thread. Need a hint? Check out the thread "Question to "moderate" muslims and their fellow travellers:" for post #7 and # 21. Then come back and try to tell all of us with a straight face that you never jumped to any conclusions. Those two posts took place before any solid information about the person was given.

That's what I thought at first but until more info came out and everyone had a good idea who did it I kept my thoughts to myself.
Who in here right after this happened thought; "Those godamn Bloods and Crips!"

3:1 odds are only a 75% probability.

So, it was only "75%" jumping to conclusions Lucy. In case you're wondering where the other 25% was - it had already arrived at the conclusion, so no jumping was needed.

Most medias I have watched and listened to did not jump to conclusions, however allot of media did speculate on the possibility that it was Islamic terrorists. Now I do not see this as wrong as there have been threats towards Norway from such sources. If somone threaten you do you not suspect them if something bad happen. Jumping to a conclusion however is something else entirely.

ETA is closer to Norway than Iran. They have terrorists there, active one. Why didn't they cross anyone's mind?

Ulster is closer still, and while the organised terror organisations there have laid down their arms, there are still a few wackjobs. Why didn't that cross your mind, Pops?

Islamic terrorism is not the be all and end all of terrorism. Indeed, in the US House of Representatives you have a man that thinks the wikileaks thing was terrorism, but that IRA activities were not. Peter King. In that climate, isnt it rather predictable that people are really confused as to what terrorism actually is, and who perpetrates it?

Sorry to tell you pops, but if that kind of thinking comes "naturally" to you, then you're a naturally incorrect thinker. While that's a pretty good excuse for holding the views you do, it's not a good excuse to hold on those thoughts any more ..... and it does indicate the absolutely necessity of some changes.
