In addition, in some areas for those without a high school diploma there are government programs that teach a skill/job placement programs so that you can earn money while you are finishing your GED. Maybe, there is something like that where you are. I don't know how much you like children, but child care is always an option too.

doesn't work that way here. welfare will cover you getting your ged, but anything beyond that they kick you off if you take a course anywhere else unless its one of their courses, which are a fucking joke, a 2-hour "computer literacy" course? yeah fucking right. so for any sort of higher education you need to either get a loan, or into a retraining program. a loan for her will have to wait till college or uni, and she can't be retrained, she's too young. i have no problem with heather making use of the system to get her insulin, or to get a loan for her higher education, but sorry, i can't be living in a place payed for even partly out of public money. if that's the only way we can get this place, we'll find something else.

That's unfortunate. When I was getting my Associate's degree, there were several people in my social work classes who were on a "welfare to work" program. They were in 6-12 month training programs to get various counseling certifications. I didn't qualify for welfare, but I did qualify for government grants and work-study programs for my Bachelor's because I got food stamps. It didn't bother me a bit to receive the assistance. I figure I pay taxes my whole adult life and my money funds those programs; I might as well get some of it back. I get what you're saying about not being dependent on public funds, though.

Make SURE she is applying for every scholarship,grant, and bursary available for her. So many of these go unclaimed each year.

Thats great but you all want to have an agreement between the bunch of you and you should have a good real estate lawyer go over the agreement to rent to own and do up a basic joint equity agreement between the bunch of you. You need to know now going in what happens if something happens and someone has to move out or whatever, will the rest buy out the interest of that person or what? You dont want to end up losing your friendship cuz you didnt work out the details now. You also need to get your finances in order, and get copies of your credit bureau files and try your best to get rid of any negative stuff on it to get your credit score up to qualify for a mortgage and you need enough income to qualify. So get started on that now and maybe 3 months or so before your agreement to buy, apply for a mortgage so that you can move forward and buy it. Dont put that stuff off.
