Ok, so I've remembered that this is the internet, and that randomers on the internet are not for political debate, but for fun and laughter and smiles. So with that in mind: Every time I notice sunshinemiss' signature... '¿me preguntas por que compro arroz y flores? compro arroz para vivir y flores para tener algo por lo que vivir.' (Roughly: 'You ask me why I buy rice and flowers? I buy rice in order to live, and flowers in order to have something to live for.') ...it jars with me. I always think 'Confucius! Dude! Why aren't you living for the rice?' When I make rice I use basmati. Simmer it in loads of water 'til it's just got a tiny bit of bite left, then drain and steam in the microwave for five minutes (or if I'm cooking for an army, coat the pan with a film of oil, chuck the rice back in, put a towel under the lid and leave on low for twenty minutes.) If I'm being a no good, bad, terribly unhealthy person I will fry onions in a good whack of oil with lots of black pepper (the basis of all Iraqi cooking) and stir them through at the last minute. It's fragrant and filling and delicious - what's not to love? Is your rice something to live for? What's your cooking technique? Your favourite rice dish? ...or would you rather just live for some dying petals in a jar of water?
