I stand corrected, there was one suggestion in those pages.....better at about 30 posts a page lol. You are right though, you did make it, and I did note it.

Ok Im back out of the thread.

Actually, I thought that the suggestion that I made back on post #150 to perhaps add a person to the Mod team who covers the place during what seems to be the 'off hours' (meaning you guys actually sleep) was a decent suggestion.  I don't know if it's an option to you due to the available volunteer pool, but that doesn't make it an invalid suggestion.

Again, this time happily corrected, and if there were more from others, my apologies I missed it.

as if reg members dont out sockpuppets all the time.

Regular members give their OPINIONS about who is a sock puppet all the time.  In reality, they cannot possibly know for sure, and the forum members know that they can't.  It's clear that when a forum member accuses someone of being a sock puppet, that they are merely expressing their opinion about it. When a mod does it, it makes it look like a FACT.  If it IS a fact, then the mods shouldn't be disclosing that personal information about users.  If it is NOT a fact, then they still shouldn't say anything, because many forum members assume that it's a fact simply because a mod said it.  i think that's an unethical and unfair use of power.

Nor do I think that a Mod should out a sock-puppet or other personal information about a poster in public.

I'm genuinely puzzled about this. Maybe I missed it but I've never seen a Mod post someone's personal info.

Whether or not someone is a sock-puppet is personal information.

I agree.

I have no problem with posters asking whether someone is or accusing someone of being a sock-puppet. (I have done so myself.)

You wrote "...sock-puppet or other personal information about a poster in public." That is what I was commenting on.

Yep, 'other' indicates that being a sock-puppet is personal information. Too: I am apt to consider all possible and impossible eventualities.

I actually rather like the thought of a newbie section that is heavily moderated to avoid them getting too beat up and bloody at our amusement. Sometimes the fact that a person is new gets lost in the foray. I try to be a little more gentle with a new person IF they aren't being an obvious putz, but all too often, with the youts, my patience is too thin. There are some real sweethearts around here that have the patience of a saint......I ain't one of them. I would probably do a lot of avoiding a section devoted to the newish individuals and let the saints tackle the 'you've got to be kidding' inducing stuff.

Seconded, as I've said elsewhere.

I also agree with what you said.  It's kind of cute that the definition of "moderation" is lost on those that abuse their power.

The fast reply thing would be nice, instead of having it reply to the last person who posted.  I had to go back two pages...

I thought I noticed some new smileys...am I wrong?  Some that are never used could go.  I miss some that are available on the other side, from the mail room.

*****
This part is not in response to the OP, it is for those who think that mods should never post, even under their normal usernames, unless it is work related only.  Damn...that is insane, in my own opinion.  Why in the blessed UNIVERSE would someone work at a place for free, hour after hour, day after day, ad nauseum, at a place where they could not have some down time and enjoy themselves like a normal person?

Is there a long line of masochistic service subs who don't mind being treated as objects and not real people with feelings...who are breaking down the doors of Collarme in a giant wave to volunteer???  If so...then I want pix.

The fact that they do not mod in threads they post in is enough already.

Years ago I used to mod at another place because I loved what they were doing and wanted to help.  I enjoyed going there because I was able to post all I wanted.  (Since I was the night owl I covered times when others slept.)

I have offered several times in the past to help mod here at CM, but I lack the necessary technical know how and was turned down.  (Except for about half a dozen years ago under a different profile name, when I was accepted but could not get Skype to work, lol.)  Nowadays...with my new sub and other things going on, my life is too busy and I would not have the time.

*****
Back to the subject in the OP again.  Yes for getting rid of the Awaiting Approval thing, because though it can be satisfying to see someone gagged like that, by the time their post is finally approved the thread is long forgotten/buried.  It might be better to just temporarily ban them from being able to reply at all.  Some will make new profiles to handle this problem but hey, that's something that cannot be prevented.

Games separated from jokes, yes, I think that would be nice.

Better search feature, with access to all past posts would also be nice.

Better "Event Calendar"...mmm, yes.  Though I bet I will still have to go over to Fet to see what our munch group is planning, I could ask the organizer if it is okay to post when the next meetup is here at CM.

It's a valid point to discuss.

Ain't it possible for it to automatically say 'Fast reply'? (As in replying to a fictitious someone whose nick is 'Fast reply'.)

DeeEll -> RE: This is your chance, speak now or forever hold your peace! :) (9/9/2011 6:19:05 PM)

I would like to see some amendment/variation to the date/time stamp on postings. An indicator of how long ago it was posted as is done on face book and fet

"18 mins ago" rather than a date and time in an unknown time which has an unknown difference from my time zone.

Go to "My Profile" up there on the right & choose your time zone. Then all posts will be stamped with the date/time in your time zone. I much prefer that to the 18 min ago, 1 hour ago, about a month ago thing.

I would also appreciate a "go to first unread" for longer threads such as this. (this is a FR)

Yeah, that's a huge one.  I don't think this software supports it so they would need to bring in an entirely new platform like vBulletin.  It would also allow for implementing lots of features other were requesting like adding rep points, +1 to individual posts, all kinds of things.

DeeEll -> RE: This is your chance, speak now or forever hold your peace! :) (9/9/2011 7:17:05 PM)

That already exists. There is a little graphic of an arrow pointing to a page at the very beginning of each topic title with posts that are newer than the last one you read. If you hover your mouse over the graphic, a tool-tip will pop up that reads: "Go to first unread post." Just click and go. If you've already read the last post in a topic, the graphic won't appear. And the feature seems only to be available for the first dozen topic titles.

K.
