One of the most disgusting stories I've on this topic was something
I read in Kathie Lee Giffords autobiography. She said her first
husband had a dachshund who was yippy so he had a vet slice it's vocal
cords. She tells about the dog running up to her barking but making no
sound.

Many breeders that have large numbers of dogs, especially smaller, yappier breeds, commonly shove an object down a breeding dog's throat to damage it's vocal cords to quiet the dogs. One of the MANY reasons I hate them.

Here in Iowa, the farming industry protects such breeders. It insulates them within agricultural boundaries. Puppy mills are common. I drive past one on my way back and forth to work. It is one of the prettiest farms I pass. Most puppy mills are quite attractive facilities run by people that are sure to appear very kind and caring of the animals they raise and sell.

My mother lives across the street from a puppy/kitten mill.
It's a lovely residential neighborhood. The house is on the
outside a charming well kept house. You would never
know by looking at it what goes on inside.

The mention of red winged blackbirds made me smile.  Growing up where I did in NYS, we were surrounded by fields.  Every spring, the males would come in and set up their territory...unfortunately, the way to home from school for many of us was right thru said fields.   It had to be funny watching groups of kids running thru the field, or down the roadway, books covering our heads trying to avoid getting divebombed.  The males are fierce during mating and nesting season.  If you were lucky, you got a quick warning whistle before they'd strike, but the sneaky bastards would sneak up behind you and nail you!  I got nailed once, and literally had a bleeding hole in the top of my head.  Hurt like a mother bear, too!

removal of cats claws.

Never had it done and never will have it done. It is even crueler than the terrible things you're doing to that puppy.

ummm,.. never say never.

I never had a cat declawed until my ex & I had TC. I have no idea why but TC's paws around his claws were always getting horrible blisters/infected.. all 4 of his paws too.. i tried everything i could think of, nothing worked so we took him to the vet and the vet gave me some meds and those didnt help either. It was to the point where the poor cat couldnt even walk he was in such pain from it.. I was pulling my hair out. The last resort was for the vet to declaw him. I did not want to but there was nothing else i could try so we did it.

I took care of him while he paws healed and then he was fine, he didnt have that problem again, he could walk, run, play and he was happy again. Btw, my other cat Squeek didnt have paw problems and he was also the furniture clawer in the family and he was never declawed.

I only mention this as there are very, very rare exceptions where you need to do that for the sake of the pet. Otherwise there is no valid reason to, imo.
