For all of you who still feel that religion is a force for good, I present The Westboro Baptist Church, The Crusades, Michelle Bachmann and her "Pray the Gay Away" Husband, The Inquisition, Scott Perry and his "Pray for Rain" efforts, pedophile priests, 9/11, the Arab-Isreali war(s), doctors murdered over abortion, Terry Schivo, and the anti-gay American Family Association.

Religion has been used to justify more violence, more hate, and more persecution that anything else in the known world. Or to put it another way: Science flys you to the moon, religion flys you into building.

Have a nice day, preferably without any thoughts about an invisible firend in the sky.

I tend to believe that religion (which I am defining as a belief in a higher power) does more harm than good.

Okay. Make your case, then.

But make it as defined -- belief in a higher power -- without reference to the writings or doctrines of any particular religion.

It is often cited as authority, and not just authority, but "higher authority", authority used to justify acts of violence - we don't have to go back any further than the murder to Dr. George Tiller for an example.

In this country, one has the right to face ones accuser in open court - to date, god has yet to make a single court appearance, case dismissed.

So to put your argument in the general case, anything that is demonstrably susceptible of being misused for ill brings more harm than good.

that would depend on how fucking often it is misused now wouldn't it?

Ya think?

That's why the argument beggars the question.
