Indeed. And I hope every single one of them does so with a very smug smile on their face knowing they are upsetting people like him to the degree they are.

That delights me!

Me too! Then I'll have lots on inconsiderate women to stare at whilst licking my lips intently.

*That* delights *me*!

I've removed some posts from the thread.  Please keep the discussion on topic.

Thank you.

Looks like Delta drew the short straw today.

Hardly. Sexual harassment occurs in the work place. Outside of it, I'm free to look where and how I want. Don't like it? Leave the area. I won't follow as that's stalking. I'll just sit where I was when she walks up and remain until she leaves. Simple.

Arpig -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 7:49:23 AM)

And it looks like our darque friend knows as much about women, the law, government....well lets just say damn near everything, as he does about the internet.

Its interesting, this thread has basically consisted of one person after the other coming on and ranting about how breastfeeding in public is bad, and doing so by flinging insults, denigrating others, lying, engaging in blatant exaggerations and yet being utterly unable to clarify in any way how it is bad, or distracting, or disrespectful.

So, who do you think will be the next to step up and make an idiot of themselves?

Mom Kicked Out of Court for Breastfeeding

Did anyone watch the second video, where the female bus driver tried to throw the breastfeeding mother off the bus and called the cops on her when she wouldn't leave or stop feeding her children?

DM - sure, welfare abuse occurs. I'm personally much more concerned about corporate welfare. We can continue this over in P&R if you like.

LaT!! Lucy!! You sadistic bitches!! Would you REALLY inflict that kind of punishment on nursing mothers??? THINK OF THE BABIES!!!

*snort*

You flatterer you!

eta......I must have missed out on some good stuff while I was working!

GreedyTop -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 9:28:52 AM)

nah.. just more of the same..

LaTigresse -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 9:55:52 AM)

I've never understood the craziness this particular topic creates. While I believe a certain amount of discretion shows some class......I am not horribly offended when a woman displays less discretion than I feel is acceptable.....to ME. I would just chuckle to myself and think something like "Damn! Nothing like letting it all hang out there lady!" and promptly forget all about it.

And apparently a prediction came true.......vaca for the shiny wall hanging!

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 10:26:14 AM)

Well.  I learned from this thread that viewing a woman breast feeding or even thinking about it, drives some people completely out of their minds. Fortunately, the legislatures in 45 states completely disagree.  Guess some people are just going to have to get over it.

In other words it's a right because you say so? Cool I'm going to call in to work and tell them I have the right to stay home and be paid.

Take a government class (preferably in college) and then come talk to me about rights. Otherwise, it's like I'm having a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Aw that's okay I'll take it easy on you. I know you're lacking in mental acuity.

Ishtarr -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 2:00:15 PM)

The only thing this thread has convinced me off is this:

Next baby I have, I'm going to go out of my way to breastfeed in public places.

barelynangel -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 5:12:36 PM)

See that's what i don't get.  Why, if it wasn't something you would normally do, would you do it for SPITE.

That to me is as bad of an attitude to have as many people are accusing others of having for finding it INAPPROPRIATE in certain situations or places.

To use it to thumb your nose because it may make some people uncomfortable to me is just as bad as anyone who finds it offensive as a whole concept.  Ishtarr your reaction is no better than theirs.

angel

That's because for those people, a baby is an accessory. A pet. A commodity to be used as it suits them and their agenda. When it becomes a nuisance, the neglect begins.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/18/2011 5:51:46 PM)

Now women who breastfeed in public are women who neglect their children. Oh my, this should be an interesting bit of warped logic, please do elaborate.

Or maybe it's just a hungry baby. Personally, I'd a hundred times rather wander by a woman discretely breast feeding (and no I'm not a fucking perve that would sit and stare Fer fucks sakes GROW UP) than listen to the incessant squalling of a hungry baby.

Before you start pontificating about single mothers, just maybe her old man bought it in the sand box. You DO respect veterans don't you?

Mom Kicked Out of Court for Breastfeeding

quote:

Apparently, feeding your child is something to be ashamed of -- at least according to one district court judge. Michigan resident and mother of a 5-month-old baby, Natalie Hegedus, was reportedly "called out" for breastfeeding in front of an entire courtroom, leaving her humiliated and in tears.

Ok, really? I'm sure there are plenty here that will defend her right to breastfeed where ever she wants, but there are times it is simply inappropriate.

It isn't "illegal" to use a cell phone, but don't do it in a court room. Most court rooms aren't even go to permit your child in the courtroom as he/she can create a disturbance if they get "fussy" during proceedings.

It really would not have been all that difficult for her to step out into the Atrium area to feed her child. She could have pulled a bailiff aside, explained that her baby needed to be fed and she was just stepping outside the room to do so.

So regardless of whether or not breastfeeding in public is "legal," are there times it is simply inappropriate to do so? Is it appropriate during church services? How about in the middle of a wedding ceremony?

While I do understand that many women want to breastfeed their baby and want to have the right to do when when necessary, do they really have the "right" to do it anywhere, and anytime the need arises? Or should these women actually take into consideration that there are some places where stepping out of the room is just the "right" thing to do?

ETA:

I hadn't realized there was a video attached, which prompted another question:

If a particluar place provides an area for breastfeeding (not the ladies bathroom), should a person be required to use that room as opposed to breastfeeding anywhere they choose at the facility?

#1)  I'm all about breastfeeding in public....especially when I'm asked to help.

#2)  There are some things, barring any legal issues to the contrary....THAT SHOULD REMAIN IN THE FUCKING CAR!!!!! (assuming I'm in the car).

#3)  Too many gawdamn rights have been given because no one would DARE stand up to a "woman feeding her child".

#4).....see #1.

Alecta -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/19/2011 1:07:30 AM)

I'm all for being able to breastfeed in public in general, but.
1. Breastfeeding is feeding. Anywhere where eating and drinking is inappropriate is also inappropriate to feed a child.
2. A Courtroom is not an appropriate place to be feeding anyone... actually, let me rephrase that... it is inappropriate to breastfeed or eat or drink or do anything disruptive or dismissive in a Courtroom when a Judge is in session.
3. This is not a "where can you breastfeed" question, it is a "when is it appropriate to blindly exercise your personal rights in blatant disregard of others" question. It is a respect issue. By deciding on your own to breastfeed while the Judge is in session you are disrespecting the Judge, the Court system, the Law, and all that it represents. You are placing it all beneath your convenience.
4. Your child's needs are paramount. This doesn't mean the world should stop spinning and bend over backwards so yo can feed the child, it means you should. If it is a choice between losing your place in line and feeding your child, choose the latter. I am not offended by breastfeeding mothers. I am offended by mothers who refuse to choose their baby's needs over her own convenience.
5. It is one thing to make a normally emotionally stoic woman cry. It is another to make a woman who milks sympathy for a living cry. Most people sit somewhere on that line between the two. Feeling humiliated does not mean someone had been humiliated, it could mean they have thin skin. It could just be their bid to sway sympathy votes. The Judge didn't do any more to her on the humiliation front than the teacher who scolds you in front of the class for not doing your homework. Or is that frowned upon now too?
