First, congratulations on taking the first step. Is that warm where you are right now? I'm in NJ, and not much is going to make me hot and sweaty in December, lol. But good job on cooking something. As for using white potatoes a lot of the difference will come in based on how you prepare them. Baked vs. mashed and that is without the butter, milk, etc. Eating them everynight? Bad. Once a week? Not a big deal. quote:
ORIGINAL: Toppingfrmbottom But how would you chop under water? I also heard if the onion has been in the fridge for a few days, they're less eye burning. You aren't chopping underwater. If you run it under cold water, or put in ice water for a minute or two. Onions don't bother me, so I have never paid too much attenion. quote:
Yup I know what you mean, though I have felt the symptoms like dry mouth and having to pee really bad and not producing much for a while, but other than that I felt plenty fine, didn't have any of the other symptoms of diabetics and it was a real shock the day the dr said you've gone from mildly diabetic to more diabetic than not. Cause more often than not some of us feel fine, or have felt "off" for so long we're not recognizing when we feel " more off than usual" But you have been aware you are overweight and the doctor told you a while ago, you were developing a sugar problem. TFB, you know I'm not being mean, but truthful. And your weight has caused you to feel physical stuff for a while. Time to stop ignoring it or catering to it. quote:
I wanted to do Once a week cooking, and I asked him to help, but he said hell no, he's not doing all the food prep for an entire week, and he says what will happen is instead of helping me he'll end up doing it all while I sit back , and that's not true I get frustrated or tired or I don't know how to do something and he tells me to get out of the kitchen, i will do it myself. This is where you have to drop the whole "babygirl" identification and be a grown up. When you get a little tired, which by the way, should not be happening if you are sitting in a chair doing all the prep, you BOTH take a 5 minute break. Don't prep things you don't know how to do. Better yet, split the prep chores up. He can do those things you don't know how, you do what you do know how. Best? Learn how to do it. Cooking like Mario Batali (is that how you spell it?) isn't the goal. What you need to learn is not rocket science or even difficult. Amazon has a whole page of "Cooking for Dummies" and the used ones are pretty cheap. Go to a flea market, thrift store or garage sales and you can get cook books for a quarter or so. Your mom must have at least one cook book in the house. Use the internet. Not for nothing, but he works all week, you don't. There is NO reason you can't do it on your own. You are off to a good start. You sat at the table like I suggested to take take the pressure off your back. All activity is good activity. Do you get tired in the middle of sex? If not, then you can sit in a chair, prep your food and not get tired either. YOU CAN DO THIS! quote:
I was thinking if I liked the chicken and carrot and water chestnut tv dinner why couldn't we come up with that on our own, cause it's so easy. And with a crock pot, you can do a lot of savory things, I just have to compile a menue plan. Yes, it makes sense, tonight the meat balls are premade you just microwave them cause it's all we got, but I will be grocery shopping on monday most likely and can pick up some ground hamburger and other stuff I can portion out and have ready to go. You are going shopping Monday. Tomorrow, sit down, look at the sales paper for where you are going. Make a list. You find a meat on sale, figure out what you can make from it. But make a list. NO junk food. Find a healthy alternative. You want something sweet? Buy carmel rice cakes. They are really good for rice cakes. You want savory? Try the cheese ones. Buy some chicken breast, lean steak, pork chops. Leave ground beef out if you can. Yes it is cheaper, but it is the worst choice of meats. Buy some romaine lettuce, some tomatoes, a couple cucumber, carrots. I know it can be difficult to see and smell all the yummy goodness in the grocery store and not succumb to temptation, but you can do it. Make a list and stick to the list. If your partner tries to go off the list, tell him can't, that you both need to stick to it. Make sure you eat before you go to the store so you aren't hungry and will be less tempted. Do you like spicy foods? Spicy foods (like hot wings) have been proven to help reduce hunger AND help metabolism. Pick some recipes from the other two posts that are easy enough for you to make. Since you can't stand at the stove to saute the chicken, do it in the oven. Take a half tabelspoon of olive oil and spread it on a baking sheet. I use a paper towel to spread it all around the pan. Take another half tablespoon (another half if you really need it) and brush it onto some chicken breasts. You can buy them skinless of pull the skin off before you brush the oil on. It really isn't that difficult to pull the skin off. After you brush the oil on, sprinkle each side with some seasonings. Salt, pepper, garlic & onion powder, red pepper flakes, paprika or chili powder. The last three only if you want to. Next sprinkle a little grated cheese (like parmesan/romano) on the chicken pieces. Bake at 350 degrees, turning once for about 30-40 minutes. Until you get a feel for when they are done, cut one in the middle to check there is no pink. You can do all the prep work at the table, and once it is in the oven, you check it about 15-20 minutes and then when it is ready to come out. Let it "rest" on the stove for about 10 minutes, then slice and put it on top of a salad. See how easy that can be? If the chicken doesn't brown on top, deduct 7-10 minutes from the cooking time, turn the temp to "broil" and do each side for about 2-3 minutes to brown, but they should brown with no problem.
