I never said anything about those who only want an online relationship not being real. To each their own. I guess what I meant was when you have clearly stated your intentions to the other person and they still think they can dominate you online... that is frustrating. I'm not putting anybody down for having purely online relationships. If that is what works for them, great! I just can't do it.

I think it is true that online can work and be useful for some people, as DesFIP says. I suppose my view would be that it would normally be subject to the same kind of standards as developing a real life relationship; as in talk first to see if you suit one another enough to want to develop anything further; establish that you're both genuine and who you say you are, establish ground rules, interests and limits, and if you're going to cam, both of you cam - unless anonymity of one partner is part of both your kinks.

I mean it can be fun to kid with some of the childish on-line dom/mes - usually male - but I don't think I'd ever take anyone seriously and really even think about getting down and dirty without the foregoing; even if online was part of my interest.

While I can accept that you can have a relationship online (relationship as defined as interaction between two real live human beings) I don't see how you can have any sort of domination online, unless someone pretends to have control over you and you play along with this.

The way I see it everyone comes into this from the same starting point and their journey is a learning curve, but some people seem to struggle with the major difference between BDSM and 'vanilla' sex or dating, in that the pursuit of instant gratification here rarely if ever leads to anything worth a hill of beans.

That's certainly your right, but it will also cause you to run into a higher percentage of online game players and online wackoffs. Why? Because the people who are serious about meeting someone, and approach others in a respectful matter, often don't bother with people outside their local area -- and certainly not with someone in another country. And it sounds like you are engaging with people who are looking for some online kicks rather than ignoring them.

So really the bottom line is: You won't have trouble finding people like the webcam guy if you want to find them, and you won't have any trouble avoiding them if you want to avoid them.

One thing I've learned very quickly in any fora, online or offline, is that there truly is an infinite variety of personalities, wants, and so on. I've learned to (at least try to) reserve judgment of most people, except in terms of "this is/isn't for me, and does/doesn't fit in with my life." I admit that there are people that I laugh at and make fun of; I'm not perfect and fail to live up to my own standards at times, but for the most part, I try to go with the "live and let live" philosophy, even when I think someone is a complete wanker--I've met people who "get off" on being on the other side of that wanker-coin (real people, not just the "guy pretending to be a female sub" thing that was mentioned). If they are happy with what they offer each other, who am I to judge?

This applies to the question asked as well. While I do not know many posters in this forum whom would jump to say "I want to play with a guy like that!," I believe it is more likely that those kind of people simply don't care or want to engage in the more genuine discussions that usually happens in forums. They come on looking only for a good time for the moment, find what they are seeking, then sign off without ever even looking in the forums. So most of the responses you will get to your question is from people who view such people as mere wankers or believe that all such people are just men pretending to be sub women, or some such. Just reading the replies so far reinforces this belief. But I do not believe it represents a truly representative and fair selection of all personality types and desires. It's kind of like walking in to Burger King and asking the customers "Which is better? Burger King, McDonalds, Wendys, or some other burger joint?" Of course, most people will say "Burger King" because if they didn't feel that way, they'd more likely be at one of the other places.

BTW, I'm sorry to hear that you live in Flint. Unless you're a masochist. :-P (I lived in Chesterfield, MI from 2000-2008, and still have a lot of friends from the Michigan area.)
