popeye1250 -> Remember when Obama said....... (12/25/2011 10:13:10 PM)

I thought this might be a fun thread to keep going in here up 'till the elections in November.

Remember when Obama said; "Let it be said that from this day forward sea levels will be going down!"
Anyone got a ruler?
Now doesn't that sound like something JFK might say, the structure and all that?
This is fun because he's always talking and he must like to put his foot in his mouth and we'll have plenty of ammunition.! lol

link, source, video, a clue? your quoted words are not coming up on a google search.. so you need a source to make a discussion, for context, ..yanno, just to get the context correct.

Owner, this is like Jeopardy, you have to preface your statement with; "Remember when Obama said..."

TheHeretic -> RE: Remember when Obama said....... (12/25/2011 10:28:12 PM)

Great thread idea, Popeye. Of course, the last thing our local Dem supporters are going to want will be having the Presidents own words shoved in their faces, so expect great efforts to get the thread locked.

It's been quite the busy holiday weekend here, and the guest room is still occupied, but I'll certainly play, once things slow down.

Lucy, I'll be sure to find you he reference.

Remember when Obama said.... in reality ....

quote:

Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. This was the moment—this was the time—when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our highest ideals. Thank you, God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.

Obama's speech.

Instead of not saying the following anywhere...

quote:

"Let it be said that from this day forward sea levels will be going down!"

Funny how the words changed.

So is this your way of admitting to global warming?

Actually,Co2 output is down 6% in America.

But the Chinese communists(the ones Mitt sent all our jobs to) are chugging out pollution like there`s no tomorrow.Literally.[X(]

Maybe a better response might be.....when bush lied......four thousand five hundred American GIs died.

I typed: "Campaign Promises President Obama Has Failed To Keep" into Yahoo.

The first site that came up was the St. Petersburg (Florida before any wise-acres want to accuse me of being Russki sympathizer) Times website. Apparently, the paper won a 2009 Pulitzer Prize so, I think their bone fides as a news paper/organization are tangible.

I'll just post the link (scroll to the bottom. There's three pages of failed promises) instead of posting each individual failure.

President Obama's Un-Kept Promises

Peace and comfort,

Michael

There is 8 pages of kept promises.

He got bin-laden........done.

Got us OUT of Iraq.......done.

He hasn`t allowed a 9/11 type attack in 3 years and didn`t need to torture people to do it.........done.

He got al-queda leader/terrorist Anwar Awlaki............done.

Candidate Obama said that if he knew where an enemy like bin-laden was no mater where they were,he would act to kill them.

The republicans bashed him for saying he`d attack an enemy in a "friends" country like Pakistan.

“What I have said is we're going encourage democracy in Pakistan, expand our non-military aid to Pakistan so that they have more of a stake in working with us, but insisting that they go after these militants. And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaida. That has to be our biggest national security priority.”

The president showed some leadership and to the chagrin of cons and was successful.

Now, Mitt recently flip-flopped saying he too would do the same thing, after criticizing the president for the same position.

I would have, had he actually said it.

But, what the hell. I will go back and fix my post.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Remember when Obama said....... (12/25/2011 11:01:40 PM)

As someone who has skin in the game (my eldest son is a combat Marine who was in Iraq), the most important promise he made was technically not kept.

Senator/Candidate Obama said that he would make ending the war in Iraq a priority and it took him almost three years to do it.

I am not saying that he didn't do it and I am thankful, beyond words, that it is over but if three years is priority status, I wonder how long it will take him to get to some of the other very important issues that face us.

To be fair, I don't know if anyone from either party could have extracted us quickly (say within a year) but I didn't think I'd be waiting three years to see it end.

In all fairness, some of President Obama's promises couldn't have been accomplished by him, anyway. There were a couple that mentioned a completion date ("Mission Accomplished!") of 2020 so, I don't even think those can be taken into account or counted as "not kept".

The 2008 Presidential election was the first one for which I was eligible that I sat out. I have always felt it was my duty to vote but, in 2008, I just couldn't talk myself into pulling either lever. Neither candidate appealed to me enough to make me want them in the Whitehouse.

So far, this year, I don't see any reason to run to the polls.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

This country spent over a year fighting over the payment of 15 minutes to a Dr to set that time aside, with payment, to discuss Advanced Directives with their patients, something they are required by law to do and not get paid for... by calling them Death Panels.

You're too damn efficient, Tazzy. I made it to the other 'puter, where the Obama speech bookmarks are, and you've already grabbed the snip.

Of course, since we've been tipping bottles around here since about 3:00 on Friday, I might be a bit slow by now.

Hey, just trying to lend a hand to one of the conservative posters I actually happen to agree with on most occasions. [;)]

TheHeretic -> RE: Remember when Obama said....... (12/25/2011 11:14:56 PM)

Oh not just his campaign promises, Satyr. Have you noticed that Ron Paul's 20 year old newsletter is getting play? In the true spirit of the Alinsky method, we'll be using the standards they operate under against them, and it's ALL fair game.

20 Heresy Points (I just invented them, but you can put them in your sig line) to whoever can remember when (and where) President Obama said, "This shit is getting way too complicated for me?"

TheHeretic -> RE: Remember when Obama said....... (12/25/2011 11:18:22 PM)

Ok, here is a good one. Remember when President Obama said:
quote:

"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action."
