I dont either, not in a civilised country at least:)

One of the most important things the founders wanted to enshrine in our Constitution and way of life was civilian control of our military.

Smart bunch those guys.

And so preferable to the other way around! It's a no-brainer isn't it?

I do have other knowledge that lead me to believe a President needs to know the art of war and how to manage warriors, but that brings up memories of inter-service appeasement, a weak President, an assembly area know as Desert One and what can inspire a cluster fuck.

It has been some time since I examined that event, superficially. I seem to recall that I suspected that that mission was intended to fail.

What can one guy who is president, do? Nothing. He has to rely on other people who are specialists.

The fact that the UK has thousand of years in its history of making war and killing large numbers of people does NOT endear me to military being in control of the general populace.
HAH I see Tweak feels the same

I don't think military service should be a requirement for the top job.

That said, I have not voted for any of the recent draft dodgers who sat in the Oval Office.  I sat out both general elections when Clinton was elected because I couldn't bring myself to vote for the Republican he was running against.

Bush, Jr. served in the Guard and went to Yale...but he was a warmonger and a terrible president.  Obama was editor of the Harvard Law Review (somebody on here stated he went to Yale, he didn't Obama went to Columbia and Harvard) and he's been a disappointment--but he's also one the smartest men we've had in the WH in a long time.

Actually bush was AWOL from the NG.One reason we`ve never seen his discharge papers.

Maybe at the very least,we could make it so one can`t be dishonorably discharged and run for POTUS.

I'm with ya Erie,

I was so excited about Obama....and I'm disappointed. He honestly tried WAY too hard and pushed things through that shouldn't have been. On the other hand we have the Republicans in Congress and Senate stirring shit just to be difficult rather than actually doing what they're paid to do.

So, this year, I'm looking at the Republicans...and they scare me. We've got Rick Perry who wants to change the Constutition, Santorum who says that we do not have the Constitutional right to privacy in our sex lives even if it involves two consenting adults and that gays should just stop being gay, Newt who is a hypocritical draft dodger who says he stands for family values while cheating on his wife and Romney who flip flops more than a flapjack.

It's sad that these are our choices.

Dont forget these words...

"Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job."

Asked what that "job" was, McConnell explained that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

But the birthers are far better class of people because their objection was based on the law, one must be a citizen to be eligible to be president. Remember, Bush followed Clinton, who was a draft dodger.... and showing ones discharge papers to a group of lying freaks who claim you werent honorably discharged isnt a constitutional requirement

Having been in the military isnt a requirement, look at Bubba Clinton

ONE Barack Obama showed one s birth certificate, ....But THAT wasnt enough and they even tried to show a forged kenyan BC, let alone all the time and expense of demanding cases be heard. Three years and she HASNT PROVED Anything beyond her hatred and ODS
Following the law? NAH, Abusing it? Yes

On August 2, 2009, Orly Taitz released and attached to court documents a purported Kenyan birth certificate which she said, if authenticated and shown to be genuine, would significantly narrow and shorten the discovery and pre-trial litigation period in the Keyes v. Bowen lawsuit. Legal documents submitted describe the document as an "unauthenticated color photocopy of certified copy of registration of birth. The document was almost immediately revealed to be a forgery. It purports to have been issued by the "Republic of Kenya", when in fact, such a state did not yet exist at the time of Obama's birth as indicated on the document (Kenya was a British Colony until 1963)
Subsequently, evidence was unearthed that the alleged Kenyan birth certificate is a modified version of a 1959 Australian birth certificate found on an online genealogy website. The Washington Independent website cited an anonymous blogger as having taken credit for the forgery and posting four photos substantiating the claim. Examples of actual 1961 Kenyan birth certificates have also been revealed, which look substantially different from the document Taitz submitted to the court

I'm talking about BIRTHERS. A wee bit of comprehension on your part would help matters or are you being deliberately obtuse again?

Based on this, could Orly Taitz be accused of forgery on the criminal side and defamation of character on the civil?

It's sad that these are our choices.

I think that the greatest triumph of the unholy alliance between the two major parties and the media, is the prevailing sentiment that we only have two choices.

The system is broken. The two major parties are bought and paid for by the corporations. They have a few issues that they differ on, which they wave like flags to stir the masses, but the essential core policies of screw-the-little-guy and make-the-corporations-richer (and hence themselves) are the same.

Any vote for a Democrat or a Republican simply prolongs the agony; these are wasted votes; neither party has the answer. Go out this year and vote for anyone who is NOT from those two parties. These people will not be elected, it's true, but these votes are not wasted. If third party candidates get a high enough percentage of the vote, they will attract the attention of the media, and hence the government. Only by using our votes to SAY NO to the status quo will we get true CHANGE.

Ed

One would hope, I know she was fined but I think that was for wasting the courts time, as regards to the forgery itself, Im gonna look into it, but im having a funday today so it might be a while

I'm actually surprised that she hasn't.
Maybe teh Kenyan would rather have the birthers leading his opposition into tilting at windmills rather than concentrating on actual issues that would do a lot more damage?
