Oh come on now... words do have tone!

They do an don't have a tone. "What do you want for dinner?" Did I say that as an accusation? Or did I say that politely? If I said that to you in person I could've said that in an angry voice. But, text leaves itself open for interpretation. Text in general is a poor way of communicating. You can try to gleam things from it.

Ahhh... I see the route you're going. However, you weren't asking about dinner, were you? The words you spoke had a tone and not a very good one if you will see how many responded to them... as no one else has so far. Let me let you in on a bit of a secret. People on the forums have often been tested in many ways, meeting people in person, actually living the lifestyle you wish to become accustomed to. That doesn't say that they are better than anyone else in any way, but what I am trying to point out to you is that, as you can see... they will call things the way they see them and have experiences with whatever. How often do you get that kind of feedback or find that on the other side? Because many of us know one another... there is a bit of accountability that needs to factor in.

You are not saying anything I haven't heard from a teen or two in my time working with them. Unfortunately, you are not a teen and I will not continue to try to assist you in any way.

Bottom line... your profile kind of sucks... add to that your first email to a new member and denial of anything wrong... along with the victim with new butt holes and you can be summed up rather quickly as someone that just isn't going to get it, even if we aren't flaming you and are really trying to send you a message.

It's your call... good luck with that.

OP: you're over analyzing this. She obviously didn't like you or your profile, and right or wrong, you evoked a childish pissy reply from her. I don't think your approach was very friendly, and was out of context for a first email. But hey, you say it works for you, so more power to you.

Re your reception here. This is the interwebs! Lot's of butt-weird dynamics going on here. It didn't help that you replied to the blank profile with a manifesto, or that you're a man and it was a woman. Hey, that's just the way it is.

This sounds more like Sons of Anarchy than any munch I have attended:

I have. I'm more active in an online community. I've heard weird things about munches, that have made me feel hesitant about them. I've heard that if you're a dom and sub walking in you're welcomed with open arms. But you might find a more senior dom grabbing your sub's ass, and if you complain they will say that he has more seniority and to lighten up. If you talk to the same senior dom's sub he will get very defensive. Or if you walk as a single man, you're more shunned. Stuff like that. But that's only what I've heard.

Well,.. you dont have a sub right now (so why worry about that for now) and you can go to munches as a single guy,.. (unlike many swinger clubs that tend not to let single men in).. what do you have to lose by going to some of them? You might learn a few things, you might enjoy yourself, might make some friends,.. you might even meet a single sub that takes a fancy to you.. who knows? it couldnt be worse than you already expect it to be..

I never took someone asking me what I want for dinner as an accusation. And words DO have tone. If you go to college and take some business courses, you will learn all about it. I'm guessing you haven't had any higher education and have never taken a class in communication, literature, or writing.

As I said before, yes they do and don't have tone. You glanced over this part of the message where I admitted that yes, they do.

I'm going to give you a list of words. You tell me which tones they produce. If you are correct and words produce a tone, you should be able to tell me what tone they produce.

Apple
Banana
Shit
Tower
Butternut squash
Run
Smoke

But you won't be able to tell me what tones those words produce. Single words produce no tone. It's how those words that are arranged which give it any tone whatsoever. Even still going from zero tone in a single word to some sort of tone in a sentence they have room for interpretation. The reader can put their own spin on the tone. Something that wasn't intended to be accusational might become son.

They do not have the same tone as talking does. Talking has a clear tone, you can tell if somebody is angry or happy, regardless of what words they are saying. Words do not have the same tone as talking.

You could be right about words not having a tone, but they certainly have context.
Communication is about making the context work for you.

wrong once again.

THIS is how someone puts tone in their words. Or how do you like thisssss? or you can always do something like THIS --->

No one was referring to single words - only YOU WERE. Also, piss poor examples - of words to use tone with. That shit didnt even make any sense - !

I must admit though - the one TONE or writing diffuculty Im having is to make words come across like a DJ is scratching a record - LIKE: Thi-i -iii- i -i-iiii -i -i -i ssssssss. It doesnt come out clearly unless I say that a DJ is scratching. What a bummer !!!

So, in other words, I was dead on.

I'll comment on my own quote - that was supposed to be read flat.

Now Im beginning to wonder about your reading comprehension - let alone your writing ability -

I've never made butternut squash before. Will you settle for Lemon Meringue Pie? Pizza is my specialty, I take it very seriously. I got the stone and pizza paddle too. All though it takes a long time to make but they come out great.

It's like we're making the same argument but in different ways. I've all ready been saying, YES. I agree with you. But you're not recognizing that text has short comings for communication.

This is the second time this has happened to me. Hopefully you'll find this funny.

So I see a girl has joined the site with no profile. So I send her this message, which is similar to most of my first contact messages:

quote:

First off I need to say that I'm a gentleman. It's only when a sub submits to me that I will change. I believe that behavior is earned by the sub. Also if you expect me to say "Bow down to my glorious cock!" you will be disappointed.

Now with that out of the way. Tell me more about yourself. What are you looking for on here? A 24/7 TPE? A long term equal relationship? Random play partners?

She replies back with:

quote:

lol, whatever...I'm not interested in little boys with attitude and bad manners and no respect...ciao

I go to reply back to her to ask her where I was rude, and she has me blocked! I think I need to change my initial message to "CAN YOU READ AT A GRADE 5 READING LEVEL!?!"

Honestly, your message is presumptuous and arrogant. You would have gotten a somewhat similar response from me.

You use the word cock or variations thereof 4 times in your profile and then again in an opening email to a strange woman about whom you know nothing.

You, Sir, are no gentleman.

You've completely missed the point I was trying to make. Yes, you can do things with bolding, underlined, and italics. I've agreed with you on your point that you can have a tone with text in multiple points, but my argument is that text is horrible for tone. You're only seeing things from your perspective and not even trying to understand the point I was trying to make. I'm done bickering with you. I'm not going to respond to any your posts.

of course text has short comings and that is exactly why you have to be very careful what you say.. if she doesnt like what you say in that little bit of text, if you offend her by talking about cocks, or it makes her think you arent interested in her, just sex with any female,.. you wont go further with her, let alone talk on the phone or meet.. As you found out with this girl..
