I think new users should be forced to go through a hazing process. They would agree to this process before signing up to use the forums in the terms of service agreement that they checked that they read that they never read.

"Introductions" is where we would release the hounds of hell on them. The regulars could smoke cigars and place bets behind the scenes as to how long each new fish would last. We'd soften them up and make them comfortable with DarkSteven's sensibilities and GreedyTop's tackles and gropes. Then we'd spring Kana and LadyPact on them to get their hearts racing good and fast, and then, the cherry on top...triple play: Poise, Cryptic, and Rule. They won't know who to believe anymore.

Then, and only then, if they survive, will we give them the ability to post on and start other threads. They can recover from their week in introductions, scraped and bruised, with a big ol' vanilla ice cream cone to show for it. And if they ask "Why do I have an ice cream cone?" they have to start all over again.

Oh, come on, that would be fun.

Didn't Hilly start that thread?

Yeah, I did. :( It's TRUE. BDSM is only for rich elitists.

Also I think that if someone walks into the intro section demanding us to bow down ..she is fair game to the snarkfest.

Sorry, no. Think about this... if someone demands everyone bow down, and no one does, but instead says "welcome to the forums", do you think they're getting what they want?

Actually yes, in a sense, because giving a welcome implies kowtowing. And saying nothing but a welcome implies that particular twat's commentary is acceptable. JMHO.

A greeting can be courteous without endorsing anything. I hate half the poorly-thought drivel that is sadly commonplace in that whole section; but if I don't know the person well enough to do anything more than think they are dumb, I can still offer a hello. Sometimes people can be turned around with the right approach (not everyone, but then that's no excuse to throw everyone under the bus, either).

Yes, I realize "a greeting can be courteous without endorsing anything", but it's the perception of the reader. It is definitely possible for the OP to view kindly responses as believing said responses are a form of acceptance. When it's obvious they are just here to pick the pockets of horny men and other gullible types, then they are not here for sincere reasons and doubtful they could ever be "turned around".

I rechecked the "on a budget" thread, and you all are correct... it could have been cleaned up and kept. It has now been cleaned, and if you quoted a banned user, your post was pulled as well. I put the thread in Off topic.

We do not indulge banned users in the attention they seek. When a thread started by an already-banned user is pulled, it is probably the ONE INSTANCE that a thread can be restarted by someone else after being pulled. It would probably be wise to check with a moderator before restarting such a thread.

Again, my apologies for the pull on the "on a budget" thread.
Thank you very much. I probably would have thought that it still belonged in General, but I'm happy to see that the content will remain.

I appreciate the effort.

Nothing says we HAVE to welcome them at all. Just don't respond to them. What do we tell all the newbie girls who are asking about their flooded mailbox? Block them.

I know I got caught in this trap yesterday. I wasn't feeling well, tired of the BDSM is for rich folk bs, and got a little snarky in a welcome to a suspicious user. Chi caught me and lightly slapped my hand. Didn't even get a gold border [:(]

It goes back to what I started with. Just because someone starts an intro thread, doesn't mean we have to respond.

Last I knew "Anonymous" is a web hacking group who, in the past, have threatened to take down CollarMe. They (Anonymous) don't like findommes either.

Anyone who can clutch pearls in an appalled manner can gut a noob....in a delicate flower lady like way, of course.

I've disemboweled one or two before.

Does anyone remember that chaos lord? Gawd that was funny. I earned my first gold letter over that moron, but dang he was worth it.

I know it's the rule we are *supposed* to be nice. But don't we self select fairly well? We treat sincere newbies or those new to CM fairly well I think. We treat trolls and idiots like shit on a stick, and that's how it should be, in my never humble opinion.

That was a sock thread, yes. But the BDSM on a budget was not.

That would be my fault it got pulled. When doing research on another topic that was pulled I had that one up too, and gave 21 incorrect information. 21 has corrected that now, but I felt I should apologize as well, since the incorrect information came from me. I will be more thorough in the future.

Thanks to everyone for being a part of CollarMe,
Gamma

(shortened for brevity)

Like you say, though, it's possible this, could be that. And the word obvious is in there too. I've underlined the key words here that support an assumption but don't equate to fact.

If you want to give a negative reaction out based on assumption, that's your choice. Until I know someone, I don't have reason to judge them because really - what do I know for fact and more importantly, what do I care? It doesn't cost any more to be friendly than it does to be snarky. It's a choice. My own choice will be to kick people in the ass once they've earned it, not because I think their opening line is lame. There's even a third choice - just say nothing and if they are trolls, they can walk away unfed.

We all started somewhere, but that seems to count for shit these days as tolerance bows to attitude.

LaTigresse -> RE: How many people are under the Mods thumb? (8/27/2012 7:58:34 AM)

I think you are forgetting one important aspect of the issue.

Sadism. Not all of us sadists give a rats ass about random dumbasses' feelings. A few of us actually enjoy poking sharp sticks into them.
