Status: offline 		A lot of people will get subsidies to help defray the cost, so I imagine it'd be cheaper just to get it. And either way is cheaper than having to pay for chemo or heart surgery out of pocket.

Status: offline 		Starting in 2014, virtually every legal resident of the U.S. will be required to carry health insurance or face a tax penalty, with exemptions for financial hardship, religious objections and certain other circumstances. Most people will not have to worry about the requirement since they already have coverage through employers, government programs like Medicare or by buying their own policies.

Premium Assistance Subsidies

The premium assistance subsidy reduces the amount that an individual or family pays for health insurance coverage by providing a tax credit. These subsidies are only available through the Exchange. Subsidies are determined on a sliding scale, based on income, so that individuals at the lower end of the income scale get the most help. The subsidy is based on the premium for a benchmark plan (the second lowest cost silver plan available in an Exchange). An individual or family who wants a more expensive or higher tier plan (i.e., gold or platinum) must pay the difference.

Cost-sharing Assistance Subsidies

All people who buy coverage through an Exchange will have a cap on their total out-of-pocket spending, including deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance. These limits are based on the out-of-pocket limits that apply to high-deductible plans used with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). People with incomes under 400 percent FPL will get subsidies to lower those caps based on their income.

You know what's hilarious?

Obama is a clear union shill. No question.

Romney wants to kill unions.

Both have their points....each are extraordinarily valid.

What's hilarious in these discussions is the people that take only one side, with absolutely no concern for the other (because...it was stated by someone that ain't on their team).

Unions have corrupted the pension funds and retirement systems that you, when they fail (and they will) will pay for.

Unions were also an enormously valid concept at one time when money was flowing like honey and we needed skilled workforces to compete with the world....and we did...thanks largely to the training unions provided.

The world has changed.

It's no longer "one or the other" (and hasn't been for decades) but most see it that way.

It's fairly simple math: "We can't do this the same way we did before anymore....so now....what's the solution?"

But no one wants to hear that.

They only want their side to be told.

And that, folks....is what's gonna fuck everything up sideways.

The new health policy is designed to eliminate free loaders from the system. The curious thing is what kind of coverage they will receive if involuntarily drafted into the system.

You cannot feasibly force insurance companies to insure those with preexisting conditions unless all Americans must get insurance. This idea started with the conservatives during the Clinton era.

Status: offline 		If I recall correctly, there is an obscure provision in the ACA which forbids Federal funds from being used to prosecute those who don't comply. If that's the case, the law is toothless.

Status: offline 		Yep. This has been my main gripe with the law. If it had been in place five years ago, the cost of not simply doing without health insurance for half a year, would have been a dealbreaker for me taking a leap of faith towards a better life for myself and my family.

The next guy in the spot I was in, is just going to be fucked, and stuck in the dead ender.
