Thought I'd start a thread about the storm hammering the east coast for people who want to share their thoughts, fears, and experiences.

I was reading up to a third of the US would feel the brunt of this. I'm wondering how it will affect the election.

I'm a little freaked out, I have to admit. I live in central NJ and that's where Sandy is barreling down on.
I already got a call from my boss telling me the lab will be closed tomorrow and for me to call all my employees.
I'm stocked up on water, batteries and non-perishable foods. And cat food. My kitty would never accept any natural disaster as a reason for not getting his Fancy Feast.

Work is telling us to be there or else.

I remember a temp boss from the midwest telling a bunch of folks who had been thru Andrew the same thing when there was a hurricane warning.

We collectively told him to pound sand.

Y'all batten down and take care up there.

Thanks for starting the thread badgirl!

I am here in Northern Virginia, I have plenty of water, non-perishable food, a wonderful water proof somewhat fancy Dorcy lantern, that has new batteries in it, lasts for over 300 hours and can light up a huge room, blankets, 3 flashlights, battery operated radio.

I tied my trash can and recycling bin on the porch.

I am ready for whatever comes my way! {I hope}

Good luck to those having to evacuate, and directly on or near the coasts.

Please keep us posted, as I will also!

I think that some places are starting evacuation. Good luck to any in the path.

Thanks for starting the thread DBG!

I'm near Boston, and should be North of the worst of it. Mom stopped by Home Depot after church today for batteries and they'd been out of Ds since yesterday morning. REALLY??? Fortunately, I had an extra 4 pack. I helped her batten down her hatches, then did the same at my new and old apartments.

M is with his new girlfriend and ignoring my texts about coming home to take his AC out of his window >_<

This may sound silly, but if you have any laundry to do, do it now. As a seasoned hurricane survivor, I cannot tell you how
much clean clothes were appreciated during days of sweltering heat and week long power outages.

I hope you all remain safe! My thoughts are with you.

My new landlord's washer just broke and I am doing two loads for him at my so-to-be-old-place as I type. He's letting me install washer/dryer hookups, which I am paying for myself, and I told him $5 per load for his clothes

Oh, and charge everything (phones, Kindles, etc.) and fill your car with gas!

Old hurricane vet here.

Go to the ATM and get some cash.
Credit card machines will probably be down.

I keep extra water routinely. But not a D battery to be found. Have candles though.

Half expecting a call Wednesday reporting damage to the beach house, so planning to run down there with plywood since you can't buy that on Long Island after a storm.

I am prepared for it, stocked with food that doesn't require to be cooked, extra water, batteries, flashlights, candles, extra food for my animals, cash, cell phones are charged. I even have spoken with an elderly neighbor who I am going to be checking on routinely if power goes out.

I agree with poise wash all your clothes and towels while you can, clean clothes and towels are a little comfort missed when you are without power for days or weeks at a time.

On that laundry thing...order matters. LOL I found that out with Irene. Was just washing as I always did when the power went out with my last load midway through the wash cycle. Did I mention it was the whites load...and I was behind...and that meant every single pair of socks, underwear, and towels I had? Yeah we were sooooo not happy campers. Did those first this time. Got everything I need, gas in the car, what money is left after all the purchases, everything battened down, and CLEAN CLOTHES. Everything's on chargers and I have plenty to keep us busy with or without power. Here we go again!

SD

who's just happy to have clean undies!
