ORIGINAL: SilverMark Nixon's resignation(Watergate) and Ford's pardon(Watergate) allowed for Carter, not the way Nixon goverened nor the way he campaigned....you must have missed that part in your history? Nixon had a record to judge and won in a landslide the second time around, yet he was one of the first to discuss such things as national healthcare....He stayed out of peoples bedrooms, he wasn't sucking up to religion, he wasn't even that devoutly religious. (A non devout Quaker at that)..... He disliked the media, but had a great surrogate(mostly his own fault, the checkers speech and all) in Agnew to speak what the average old white guy was thinking, he didn't have to go there. Law and order was something both parties were interested in at the time, along with ending the Viet Nam war, he was no where near batshit crazy right wing idiot. He was pragmatic, devious and capable...and he won elections through those virtues and faults. He couldn't get elected in a primary today, neither could Eisenhower or even Goldwater... You dont even know history...like most liberals. Where is his mistake? Running around screeching "YOU'RE WRONG, YOU'RE WRONG YOU'RE WRONG YOU'RE WRONG" and not offering supporting data makes you look like an ignorant idealogue. Were you running for congress last night?
