I hate to say this, but in an apocalyptic scenario, Lindsey Lohan would probably survive by shear dumb luck. Those kinds of people usually do.

That depends entirely on the apocalyptic scenario, and who the writer is.

Me, I tend to write stories where sheer, dumb luck is quite evenly distributed, as is also its converse.

This topic makes me naseous. I do not like not being in control and having something like this even remotely possible makes me paranoid. Last year something I worried about was the sun moving closer to the earth by mere milimeters and burning us to a crisp within seconds. the year before that I was scared to go under underpasses for fear of a big rig flying off just as i was going under. This year it's the mayan bullshit.

I have issues. Don't judge me.

LOL. This was the thread that brought me out of lurkdom. FML

jlf1961 -> RE: Doomsday is coming! Or is it? (12/2/2012 10:34:27 PM)

I am referring to a real situation. We had a complete douche in my unit in the army, and I saw the SOB walk away without a scratch when a Cuban grenade went off near enough to him to have been fatal. As I said, shear dumb luck.

I would not be too concerned about the mayan bullshit, the calender starts over on the 21st, not ends. In fact there are mayan carvings for events to be held up to a few thousand years in the future.

What all this means is that is the beginning of a new age, and according to the Maya and other indiginous peoples around the planet, the dawn of a new age is accompanied by natural disasters, but not the end of the world.

The reason that mammals survived the impact that killed the dinosaurs was that they lived underground, and when they emerged they ate insects, which carried them over until the plant life rebounded

Actually the terrestrial animals that survived share the charaecteristic of being either very small, very mobile or very starvation resistant.

A rat sized mammal could scavenge both dead plants and animals until the sky cleared. There is also some indication that the species that survived lived in littoral environments where the marine food chain did not collapse quite so completely so there may have been fish and shellfish available throughout the event.

We know far too little about the lifestyles of these mammals to say they were burrowers and considering that birds also survived it seems that that was not definitely a factor.

Rule -> RE: Doomsday is coming! Or is it? (12/3/2012 3:13:59 AM)

Small animals being present in huge numbers also must have helped to survive the impact.

So if we tried to save as many people by going underground, what you are saying is that there would probably be new buffalo wings, nachos, chili cheese fries and steak.

The way that sounds I think I would rather be dead.... Unless I had a 100 year supply of Black Velvet

Now I have seen everything and this makes me wonder about the average IQ of the American gun buyer.

Yes, I own guns, I hunt, there are times when I carry a concealed weapon.

But this just worries me, and gives me an idea for a get rich quick scheme, that would be perfectly legal.

Zombies A Factor In Gun Sales Increase, Gun Rights Advocate Says

It's not just President Obama's re-election that's lead to a spike in gun sales. The living dead are also providing a reason to stock up on firearms and ammo.

My Northwest.com reports that, according to FBI data, background checks for guns rose 20 percent on Black Friday from the same day last year. According to KIRO, one gun rights advocate said part of the reason for the increase is zombies.

"A lot of people appear to be really enthralled by this," Dave Workman said. "I've seen lines of zombie targets, I know one or two ammunition companies have introduced boxes, lines of cartridges they called zombie cartridges, shotgun shells and rifle shells."

Source

Now for my idea to get rich, I am going to form a company to sell Zombie insurance.

Of course, the insurance will only pay out if the person insured actually became one of the living dead. Acting like a zombie due to increased alcohol and narcotic use will not justify payout.

We all have issues.

It's never comfortable to dwell on the unpleasant possibilities in life, anyway.

Welcome to the land of the unlurking, by the way.

So have y'all sorted this out?

Do I need to buy the damn gifts or not?

tazzygirl -> RE: Doomsday is coming! Or is it? (12/3/2012 4:50:09 PM)

Depends. Do you get laid without em?

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Doomsday is coming! Or is it? (12/3/2012 4:51:43 PM)

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at this thread....

Any one of us could die tomorrow. For any number of reasons.

The world could in fact end. Now. Tomorrow. Dec 21.

Whatever.

I just live my life, ya know what I'm saying......carpe diem....(oh, and for those who believe in god and are conservative, you might want to spend some time thinking about those less advantaged than you because the end for you, or for the earth, really could be whenever, so you might not want to postpone being a decent human being.....) [:D]

Actually, Littlewonder, the folks who converted the Mayan Calendar into something people accustomed to the modern calendar could relate to knew all about leap days, and put those into the calculations. Assuming the understanding of the start of the current long count is correct, the date is 12/21/2012 (US).

You missed one very important aspect:

The Mayans missed the whole Hallmark calendar thing.

Hallmark trumps everything.

Well, 22% of Americans believe that the end of the present Mayan cycle is the end of the world.

10% of Americans believe there is going to be a zombie apocalypse.

And 10% of the world's population believe in the Mayan end of days theory.

Now if I can just get the rest of the world's population to believe in either the zombie apocalypse or the end of the world Mayan theory, it would make my job a lot easier to get them to board the alien space ships thinking they are being saved from the end of the world. In truth I have sold 2/3's of the people on earth to various alien government as zoo exhibits.

Go ahead and buy the presents. In fact, max out your credit cards, take out a number of loans, spend a fortune. If we are wrong and the world ends on the 21st, then you wont have to pay the bills.

If we are right, sorry.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Doomsday is coming! Or is it? (12/3/2012 6:36:44 PM)

It can be the end of the world after the 18th. That is the last time I am paying for my daughter's birth control shot. She has to follow through all by herself.

I want steak on the 19th. before I go home on the 20th.
