Thank you LadyPact, for answering VideoAdminChi's question about the threads in question from Admits.

The one thread you link to was my fault as you know, but what you didn't know was that I was sick with a flu bug and when I was playing catch up, I lost that one. It has been cleaned and returned. I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

I will see what I can find elsewhere.

Theta

the major inconvenience you caused was to me. i had been asked a question and so wrote a rather lengthy reply only to lose it all because you locked a thread that didn't need it. i wasn't happy about that at all.

there have been alot of problems lately with the site, and i feel alot of it is due to the amount of time that mods spend being over protective of certain little souls who can't cope on an adult site.

I find I have less and less desire to post much of anything meaningful. If I am going to take the time to attempt to compose a quality post, only to have it lost in a babysitting morass of over zealous nanny action, my efforts are obviously not appreciated by the admin. If I am going to post, it's probably not going to be terribly wordy or worth more than the occasional smirk.

why was Rich's thread on the mental health issue locked?

My guess is because it had the word, "guns," in the title, Vince, and with the sheer volume of forum spam Chi had to wade through, it was pretty much automatic. From where it sits on the page now, I'm guessing it was the last one she got to.

That, or just force of habit, in locking down my threads, rather than removing and sanctioning the little posse of stalkers who follow me around.

The flip side of that, LaT, is when you take the time to completely dismantle a bullshit argument, only to have the individual making it flee their own thread, and start another a day later with the same line of bullshit as a foundation.

This wasn't meant to be a thread on the "All about gun control" thread, but since you bring it up:

Each of the locked threads came at it from a different angle, best addressed seperately from the rest. Some of jlf's threads could have been folded into one, perhaps, but even those were tidier to keep apart, especially now that the rest of the board is so quiet anyway. If I were to speculate on whether Christmas may see another spree killing, I suppose that would go in the gun control thread, too, now. And, if you want to address consistency, why not the punishment thread. Counting thread drift, one of the threads locked even dealt with the issue of freedom to govern one's body in relation to the issue of freedom of possession. That's close enough to lock down, while punishment of people guilty of such crimes is not, apparently. Reminds me of the classification scheme Focault mentioned in the intro to the book tweakabelle mentioned.

Regardless, I would've just shook my head if it were just that one thing.

IWYW,
— Aswad.

What is your question?

I am not here to 'dismantle' any moron's bullshit. We are, or are supposed to be, adults here. If other readers cannot, in their own mind, dismantle the bullshit for themselves I am not going to do it for them. I give my opinions. If my opinions are contrary to those of a dumbass......yay. If not, I don't care. I don't care about dumbasses and morons. It has been my experience they do a splendid job of 'dismantling' themselves without any effort on anyone else's part.

Same here.

I think the underlined is concluding a bit far, but I agree with the sentiment.

Yeah. Which reminds me... I owe you an apology on that point. It took a while to realize that tendency was a sampling problem caused by moderation.

No apology required.

My ennui with this site is probably not attractive in how it is usually expressed. I used to really CARE, about the site and what it offered and about the people on it. That seems to have disappeared. I take responsibility for that and whatever my response to that is. For better or worse.

Though unfortunate, I can live with that.

My favorite goes more like this: I click reply. Type two or three pages of text. Press the post button. Message tells me I can't post in that thread. Reload the thread. Get redirected to the board (pulled) or access denied (quarantined for cleanup). The poster causing the thread pull or access denied thing is usually back to posting without having missed a beat, and often gets a new thread shut down by the time the cleanup is done (or the same thing if it was a pull). Said poster usually won't ever be "Awaiting Approval", and threads still drop like flies.

IWYW,
— Aswad.

Being completely honest, I do not believe that CM will turn around again (not can not, but will not).

That, for me, mainly, leaves the question of where to migrate, as though to stay in touch with those posters whose opinions and viewpoints I have valued over time.

Or, less wordy: Where y'all heading to?

That's the reason I'm still here, and has been for a year or so.

I've been giving it a bit of thought, but no good answer yet. Figure I'll start working on an alternative next year, maybe.

That is really too bad, Rich. I put up a thread on Punishment which incorporates the mental health issue . . . without the g-word in the title and absolutely nothing to do with gun control. Hopefully, it will not get locked so arbitrarily as yours did.

Really, the equitable solution is to deal with the poster. Don't understand the policy of community knuckle raps.

I thought Marini had some very good ideas about multiple threads on a single subject that would work.

Consolidation does destroy the flow of a thread because those joining the consolidation have no idea what posters are talking about at times. Then we must also scan pages of posts not even related to the subject of the original thread just to maintain our duty as thread originators.

I don't believe it will be the end of CM and I'm sure the powers that be are just trying their best to give us the best experience on the site.

I have confidence there will be changes if enough of us complain about the policy. Remember it was a few weeks ago we complained about the restrictive posting policies not allowing sidebar discussions and that rule has been relaxed and made discussion a lot more enjoyable.

In the end i think things will work out just fine.

Butch

IMO, there should not have been a thread consolidation; however, if it's obvious someone is being a tool by starting multiple threads on the same subject, mod action could be warranted.

Now excuse me while I go start some threads about findommes with guns.
