I must say that other areas of the site must be experiencing the growth.

OK, every time I see a thread on proper capitalization I always laugh. Pressing the shift key is not a sign of respect for me. Copying these damned color codes when I want to quote you is annoying as hell and absolutely a sign of respect *laughs*.

Back to the main point though, I personally think the lack of new "lifestyle related topics" has little to do with the moderation here. I started pondering that as a result of this thread but I got to "insular community" more than "repressive moderation" so I didn't bring it up. It's probably a thread worth having though.

SInce I am of the same opinion as you, but as administrator try to make everyone happy never said I was going to close that thread but in fact open some of the others back up so that those could post on it that wanted to. Did you post on the thread? If so, you also will have a choice on where to post. Other posters that have a different opinion on what should happen with the thread will be able to make a choice just as you will. Thank you for your input however, as I value your opinion

To answer your question, I'm not on the consolidated thread. I was on several of the threads that were closed and one that was removed. When the separate conversations were closed, I bailed. I was absolutely not suggesting that the current thread be closed. That would be completely unfair to the participants. I was thinking more along the lines of resurrecting the closed threads and bumping them having the result of burying the topics that have been running these past five days.

As far as the lack of topics, that is up to you(the generic you) to have topics. If there is a noticeable dearth of them( and I agree) then please help by starting topics. With your knowledge, there is a wealth of topics that could be started and discussed. That would help the problem that you have acknowledged with subject matter.
With all due respect, I removed the portion of the quote about the Moderators being volunteers, etc. Nobody is debating the significance of that.

The horrific shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary were so terrible that it and the related subjects (gun control, security, ownership rights, etc) were the focus of conversations. Naturally, that gravitated here. No big shock that other topics weren't getting a lot of focus.

THank you for your well wishes. I plan to catch up in a lot of areas, including being more visible and vocal here. Thank you for posting many suggestions for me to gain insight from and be able to respond to with suggestions how users can personally help collarchat grow. It will grow much more quickly with users like you taking the time to open topics and spread your knowledge to others.

I apologize in advance for any typos if any. Im off to another area but wanted to answer this post when I saw it.
That would be the rub, wouldn't it? What I think at least some of the posters are saying here is that the time investment seems futile when we have the number of topic pulls, closures, and the mass consolidation that are happening. Part of the solution, I think, is to allow posters to see that their comments aren't going to arbitrarily lopped off so that the willingness to write posts and responses to topics rises again.

Edited for My famous ability to screw up quote boxes.

As to the gun control issue, I will confess, I have not read them, and made my decision when approached about consolidating the threads because I was under the impression ( I am sure due to a misunderstanding on my part) that consolidation was what the majority of posters wanted. In the next day or so, I will be looking at the consolidated thread versus the locked ones, and seeing what can be done to break them back out, without losing any fluidity of responses.

Cynic that I apparently am, I called it censorship by stealth - to stifle discussion and debate (mission accomplished, btw). Suggested you Admins were gun humpers, too. And that apparently your 2nd amendment trumps the 1st with it....

Re-opening the discussion is now pointless. The topic is pretty much owned by the pro-gun fundamentalists; the headlines are off the front page; the dead are buried; we foreigners know nothing about stopping gun related carnage and that otherwise, the general consensus of Americans (certainly the NRA and diehard CM posters) seems to be that even more guns are needed on the streets to "protect" yourselves from yourselves, not less.

Focus.

I laughed, too. Thank you. When I started the habit, it wasn't such a pain in the arse with the color number in brackets and such.

The ironic part about participation is that it generally goes up during the holiday season. Shoot, we used to tell jokes about how the site traffic demonstrated that schools were out and that some folks had enough time away from their spouse to be writing threads. The regulars would ask how long until school's back in to defray some of it. Good for laughs though.

I hope you and Carol had a great day yesterday.
