If you need to pass a drug test to receive a benefit like food stamps, shouldn't you have to pass a drug test to receive a benefit which could be used to kill someone?

Last time I checked you don't need a drug test to recieve food stamps, but personally I would not care if they required one for both situations. No one has a problem with requiring one to get a job, why stop there. In Michigan hospitals they are making you take drug tests to prove you don't smoke cigarettes which are legal and no one has a problem with that either.

I guess you only read the part of an article you can bend to support your views.
quote:

Another large source of guns used in crimes are unlicensed street dealers who either get their guns through illegal transactions with licensed dealers, straw purchases, or from gun thefts. These illegal dealers turn around and sell these illegally on the street. An additional way criminals gain access to guns is family and friends, either through sales, theft or as gifts

The present laws already make it illegal to purchase a gun to knowingly bypass certain laws[i.e. buying a gun for a convicted felon].If the gun laws were enforced that are already on the books and the criminals actually faced the full sentence for the crimes commited then maybe we might see a reduction. But when present laws are not enforced or applied piece-meal then why try writing more laws?

I read the whole article, FYI in Columbine shooting the underage kids, had a friend buy them the weapons. In the Sandy Hook shooting the guns were just there, his mother never secured them. So the article is current.

Well Tazzy,I never said I needed a 30 round clip to deer hunt did I? But living out in the sticks with a response time of at LEAST 20 minutes[and as long as an hour] I want as much self protection as possible. Why would I you ask, when I have police available so quickly? Here's why...
quote:

Warren v. District of Columbia is one of the leading cases of this type. Two women were upstairs in a townhouse when they heard their roommate, a third woman, being attacked downstairs by intruders. They phoned the police several times and were assured that officers were on the way. After about 30 minutes, when their roommate's screams had stopped, they assumed the police had finally arrived. When the two women went downstairs they saw that in fact the police never came, but the intruders were still there. As the Warren court graphically states in the opinion: "For the next fourteen hours the women were held captive, raped, robbed, beaten, forced to commit sexual acts upon each other, and made to submit to the sexual demands of their attackers."

The three women sued the District of Columbia for failing to protect them, but D.C.'s highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a "fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen."

If I have to defend myself,I want to be able to do more than throw knives or sling swear words at the ones bent on doing harm to me or mine.

A 1981 case....

I never said you couldnt defend yourself.

I never said you couldnt own any firearm your little heart desires.

I would make it legal for you to own anything you wish.

I would also make you responsible for what happens to that weapon after you purchase it.

Do you have a sister who is single and likes older men?

I agree with everything you said there, Tazzy.

The biggest problem is that majority of gun owners do not properly secure their weapons, and the sub culture of doomsday preppers pride themselves on having weapons close at hand and easy to get to incase the shit hits the fan.

They dont seem to realize that they would have a lot of warning before people start trying to steal their food and supplies. First the stores would get looted, then the Warehouses for the Food distributors would be looted, then they would come to houses.

Are you so blind that you won't admit that those strawman purchases are already against the laws on the books now and until those laws are enforced making more laws only affect the law abiding citizens. If there were no guns in the entire world, people with the will to harm others will find a way to do so...example,Timothy McVeigh or Andrew Kehoe.Crazy people do crazy things..how about outlawing crazy people, problem solved.

Instead of a drug test, I would suggest a psyche evaluation.

That's very true. Citizens who are all alone with no radio communications or bulletproof vests have the option of allowing themselves to be assaulted, raped, or killed. After all, things are so much more civilized that way. I've always said, "Why can't we be more like the British?"

You can cite a few home invasions where helpless unarmed Brits have been assaulted raped or killed by tooled up home invaders then, can you?

Where do you see anything in my post about home invasions? But since you ask, it appears to be an ongoing issue...

As gun ownership declines, home invasions increase (2004) (reprint)
An Englishman's home is his dungeon (2004)
Britain polls highest in EU survey of burglary rates (2007)
Burglary victims attacked in their own home once every 30 minutes (2010)

Maybe if you spent less time telling Americans how to live you'd know more about what's going on in your own country.

K.

You have also said that anything semi auto would have to be kept at a gun club making it totally unavaliable to the "owner" would be toughfor people like me, the nearest gun club is at least 100 miles away more likely 250

Tazzy,my home has been broken into 3 times in the past, the first time they only got a few guns which were recovered within 3 days because I know too many in this rural area[the cops didn't find out who did it,I did].The second time, the same thing happened only it took 4 days.I then bought a safe and sold the gun cabinet. The last time, they sold my @#$%& gun safe and I never found the guns this time...nor any whisper of who did it.Heck,5 of the guns still the police tags hanging on the trigger guards. So are you telling me that I am responsible for my guns after some low lifes break into my house and steal my gun safe while I'm out working? By your way of reasoning,a liquor store owner should be responsible for any injuries caused by a drunk driver that had broke into his store and stole the liquor.[8|]

Actually she amended that at one point, stating that a keypad and key lock gunsafe would be the perfect solution. I have one, but then I have my grandkids coming around and I have an 11 month old nephew that has already mastered opening child locked cabinets. I honestly think he is a reincarnated safe cracker.
