I'm curious how they would have gotten the use of drones squared with the FAA. Drones are only allowed to fly in certain restricted airspaces, over the US. There is a lot of private plane activity over those mountains. My family had a vacation cabin up there for a few years, and the Cessnas were constantly fucking up the peace and tranquility. I haven't heard anything about the airport being closed

The UK source of the story struck me as being more a piece about making war on civilians, than it was about confirming it is going on. Do remember that they would be expecting him to monitor any media he has access to, and the references could just as easily be disinformation. The author is basing this off an anonymous tip to another UK source, and using fuzzy speech answers to confirm. All the tools available to us could just as easily mean, "no," if the FAA isn't playing ball.

Still, the original does raise an interesting question. I found it worth the read.

I normally would think it is a bit odd to being using "drones".
With all the talk about using drones lately, it looks like they are going to be used a lot more frequently.

He might be hurt. Packing all that gear through snowy, rough terrain?

I think he's dead. If I'm wrong in that, then he probably had a hidey hole all set up, and is using it. Trust me on this, there is a lot of wide open nothing, between the back side of those mountains, and Vegas, where he had his house. Anything from a hidden encampment, to a trailer in the brush, to a custom bunker on a parcel of bare land the owners have forgotten they even own (if that's the case, the drones will be all over it, because that IS their airspace). Hell, he could have rented something off a Craigslist ad.

If he's alive, and waiting to spring out again, we'll know when more people die.

I am surprised it has taken this long to find him, I think they will have him or his body in the near future.
Especially, since they will probably be using drones in the search.

Just stay out of those mountains, until they catch him!

I'd bet on the Manson country region, about 100 miles east of here, if he's anywhere besides dead and on his way to hell.

I dunno.. unless they have a smaller area to cover, not sure what good a drone with IR does when they have the whole big world to cover..

I suspect he has a hiding place somewhere there which he likely prepped already.. since he has been planning this for a while.. he could even have an underground bunker all set up..

of course, until he or his body is found, the police from anywhere in SoCal are gonna be shooting first and asking questions later.. which is why those two women got shot multiple times without warning or reason..

There is a report out that he may hiding in Mexico. But I do think you are right..they will find his body in spring when the snow melts.

Here's the problem with using drones to find him aside from the FAA.

According to the article posted "thermal imaging cameras the drones use may be our only hope of finding him—"

News flash gang. Using Thermal Imaging, you can only say that "There is a human sized target at X location moving in direction Y at Z speed" You cannot personally identify your target. Visible light imaging could be used to make a tentative ID but not IR.

IF they were going to take him out with a drone, they would have to have some way of making a positive ID prior to shooting.
I understand that LA area cops are known to "Shoot first ask questions later" but they wouldn't be the ones operating the drones.

Local radio was reporting a single shot was heard from inside the cabin, as the fire was taking hold. We shall see, when the embers cool enough for the investigators to go in.

We had a scanner feed going in the office. The wounded deputies had to taken out in a Forest Service pick up truck, to get them to the helicopter. I hope the second one pulls through.
