So, they are still healing then.  I see one of the old ex-Nazis resigned in protest over there though, recently.

Has any single apology from a country ever fixed anything? Did the dead resurrect? Did the original sinners do the apologizing? If not....why does anyone give a fuck?

Apologies are often given mor to make the giver feel better than for the benefit of the reciever.

A diplomatic apology is the same as telling a one night stand you will call her the next day, or answering in the negative when a woman asks if an outfit makes her look fat when it does.

WantsOfTheFlesh -> RE: UK apology for India massacre? (2/19/2013 8:34:07 PM)

think an apology can be useful if still relevant politically. tha 100 yrs war is ancient history. the state then doesnt bear resemblance to the uk today. could be a different matter with the indian massacre but not too well informed on britindian politics.

Politesub53 -> RE: UK apology for India massacre? (2/20/2013 4:00:52 AM)

Modern British politics isnt the same than that of a centuary ago. Britain and India have had close ties since Indias independance. I seem to recall the Queen gave an oplogy of sorts on a State visit back in the 90s.

What sticks in my throat more than anything is Camerons cynicism, in talking of an apology while on a trade visit. The prick would be better served to have done it just on a general trip to India........

And yes, I did vote for him, I wont make that mistake again.

"...& one of your politico chaps said tha british should get over their colonial guilt"

If all the Empire's direct and manipulated atrocities were totted up, I'm not sure that there is another nation who would even come in second place...

So mush nonsense, so little time.

As always, you are spouting off without a clue. Bama is just butt licking in agreement.

Politesub53 -> RE: UK apology for India massacre? (2/21/2013 5:52:56 AM)

It wouldnt be so bad if it was true, or even supported by a fact of any sort. As per usual its the normal uneducated drivel.

No, I was saying that what the UK does now is more important than apologizing for something that happened a century ago.

No country is without fault but nothing the UK has done compares with Pol Pot, Hitler, or for that matter the horrors of the French revolution.

hard ta say but theres a difference of opinion over how tha british see tha empire & the indigenous folks they yoked up. lol tens of millions of indians died of famine in a few decades under tha raj that cant just be blamed on tha inclement weather.

Powergamz1 -> RE: UK apology for India massacre? (2/21/2013 8:46:54 AM)

Do the math... you can't go back far enough with the US, because we don't have the centuries behind us that the Brits do. All of the American atrocities since 1776 combined don't come anywhere close to that.

Do the math, look at the millions of deaths from Bengal alone, and add in the slave trade, WWII, the famines in China after the Opium Wars, Africa, Asia, terra nullius, the Middle East et al...

Not just vaguely connected to, but directly conducted or manipulated by those 'whose mail'd hand keeps the keys of such teeming destinies'

Basically the rape of the whole planet for a thousand years.

And like many rapists, still in denial, and still blaming it all on the ungrateful victims.
