I think it is time we do something about these tragedies, and I think the only way we can truly prevent them is with sensible legislation.

Seems to be working well in Chicago:

Chicago baby shot while dad changes diaper

My question is...how do you change a diaper with a GUN? I'm trying to figure that one out.

...which begs another question: What on earth was he doing around children if he was carrying a loaded gun?

FunCouple5280 -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/13/2013 8:16:43 AM)

So are you saying the gun control measures in Chicago are ineffective?

Like the 11 year old clay shooter who killed the two men who came into her home while she was alone and tried to attack her?

Yes, and I'm sure statistics show far more crimes are successfully commited by attackers when victims are DEFENSELESS...than there are people shot accidentally by guns. Two different statistics...but I'd like to see them side by side.

And by the way, has anyone tuned into Maine news lately? The town of Byron recently voted on REQUIRING households to have a gun for defense, which I thought was a somewhat interesting angle. It was voted down, obviously not everyone WANTS to have a gun in their household...or to have the governmentt TELLING them they must.

CHANGING A DIAPER...it says right THERE. [8|]
But yeah...definitely some Darwin's Law at work in that family. Too bad he hadn't shot HIMSELF and eliminated further chance of him reproducing.

Since you're replying to me, to what are you referring and in what sense?

Wow, you didnt hear? Its been all over FB recently.

Shooting in Butte, Montana

Shotgun preteen vs. illegal alien Home Invaders :

Butte, Montana November 5, 2007

Two illegal aliens, Raphael Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably believed they would easily overpower home-alone 11 year old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two-story home.

It seems the two crooks never learned two things: they were in Montana and Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine.

Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father's room and grabbed his 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.

Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast of buckshot from the 11-year-old's knee crouch aim. He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals.

When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before medical help could arrive.

It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45 caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50-year-old David Burien, was not so lucky. He died from stab wounds to the chest.

Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC, CBS, PBS, & MSNBC, CNN, or ABC news.........an 11 year old girl, properly trained, defended her home and herself against two murderous, illegal aliens and she wins, she is still alive.

Now that is Gun Control!

http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-81159.html

It made all the blogger sites, has been passed around on social media sites...shuffled about in emails... and there isnt a word of truth in any of it.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/homeinvasion.asp

But its still making the circuit, people are still buying into this and holding it up as a perfect example of what happens when we dont have gun control.

Its a shame people have to resort to lying to get what they want.

IF you had read the article, you would know how.

The family stopped, the diaper was being changed inside the vehicle when someone pulled up and started shooting at the father. He is stil;l in critical condition, the baby is dead.

Dad didnt have a loaded gun.

My point exactly. There are enough honest stories out there, why lie? Why keep promoting a falsehood?

I have only one question.

WTF are these parents putting their children at risk?

You guys wanna applaud these kids like they are heros.

You think it was wise to leave a 12 year old with access to a gun home alone?

You'd prefer another outcome to what happened in these instances perhaps?

Apparently you would. [8|]

It's not the parents who would put these children at risk. It is you. And the evidence is right there.

tazzygirl -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/13/2013 12:51:34 PM)

I would prefer parents didnt abdicate their roles, instead taking care of their children instead of expecting the children to take care of themselves.

DICKINSON — A boy bound during a Wednesday home invasion grabbed a gun and sent the suspects fleeing in an incident in Webster that police said involved two sexual assaults and an abandoned murder plot.

Police in Dickinson ultimately detained two men, but Webster police didn’t immediately release the names of the suspects, pending formal charges.

Authorities first learned of the incident at 11:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun in the 18400 block of Anne Drive, Webster police Chief Ray Smiley said in a statement.

‘They were to be murdered’

The incident began about 4:30 a.m. when two men entered the home and held three residents hostage. During the home invasion, police accused one man, described only as white, of sexually assaulting two women.

You were saying Tazzy...

“The suspects then tied all three residents and drove them to a field in Alvin, where they were to be murdered,” Smiley said. “However, the black male suspect was able to talk the white male out of killing the victims.”

Nice parsing.... not. Seems the decision was already made. And even in this case, the mother and her daughter and son, didnt abdicate her parental role in the least.

I am saying the same exact thing.

If that was covered by the 2nd Amendment, it must have been wise, by definition. No?

No, you are missing the point, and purposefully IMO. The boy did what he did despite adults being there contrary to your assertion that

I would prefer parents didnt abdicate their roles, instead taking care of their children instead of expecting the children to take care of themselves.

which implies no child would ever need to do it because there are adults there.

It's not about abdication of roles, now is it?

Feel that bloating sensation yet?

tazzygirl -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/13/2013 1:27:51 PM)

No, little man with blinders on. I was referring to these children being left at home ALONE to care for themselves.

You really should stop assuming you know what people mean... especially in light of the fact that you are clueless most of the time.

Well if we accept that America is a violent country, rendering its citizens defenseless doesn't seem very wise either.

That's not how the conversation was going, now is it?

Child, home alone, with access to a gun... home invasion (this is a gun control and tragedies thread) and it was repelled, successfully. Of course you'd suddenly want to talk only about being home alone, since you lose otherwise when staying ON TOPIC (shit, read your posts above) to the discussion and links posted.

You really are pathetic. [8D] Most amusing. [:D]
