An Italian court now wants to retry Amanda Knox. Despite her aquittal, Italy is asking the United States to send her back. In Italy, there is no double jeopordy law. But she's here now, not there. Can the United States send her back without violating our double jeopardy law? This is the same country that sent seismologists to prison for failing to predict an earthquake. What do you think? Can/should she be sent back?

Can she be extradited? Possibly, it's a call from our government. Should she? Hell No. Some europeans have a hard on to punish any Americans they can to make up for their own shortcomings.

I think State will tell them to pound salt. It is not as if they didn't get a crack at her once. If I were in state, the exact phase I would use is 'there are no mulligans for the pros ;)' lol edited for grammar

R U Nuts? She had a trial, she was aquitted...done deal. Granted Italian law permits additional circus lynchings, she is an American on American soil now. We gave them their shot, now they can piss off.

No,I don't think she can be sent back,nor do I think she should Jeopardy has attached whether or not it was a U.S. court.

Lol. She isn't hiding here!!! They tried her, they fucking lost. I get it, Italian law doesn't have a double jeopordy clause. Still the state dept has to consider her constitutional rights as a citizen here. They can't betray them to please the Italians, and the Italians hardly have a case for extraordinary circumstances. Now, if she is dumb enough to hop a flight to Europe ever in her future, I am sure the Italians will be waiting. Then they will likely do their show trial and burn her at the stake.

I have nothing but condolences for the victim's family. They can blame the Italian government for not getting the right person or not doing their job. I am not going to argue as to Knox's guilt. Whether or not the trial was a "farce" has no bearing on it,she was not responsible for the quality of the prosecutions effort. The principal,as far as our system of justice is concerned is whether or not jeopardy attached. There is no doubt that the Italian system put her on trial ,had every opportunity to prove their case and apparently failed to do so,why should she,or the American Justice system (which would of necessity be tasked with extraditing her) compel her to give them another shot at it ?

It doesn't matter who was the victim of her alleged crime. Crimes aren't judged based on the nationality of the victim. (or shouldn't be) She is an American citizen and as such is entitled to the protections of the US constitution. She was tried. She was found not guilty. She went home. I seriously doubt the state dept will honor the extradition request. I also think she should verrrrry careful about international travel in the future.

Would American authorities be asked to "produce" the defendant,so to speak ? I dare say than that American "sensibilities" will indeed have to be satisfied......lol. We do not just wily nily surrender our citizens to the judgement of foreign courts.....we get a little bit bitchy about things like that. And for better or worse we are the big dog on the block so to speak...so we either surrender her to Italian justice or Italy pounds sand...thats just the reality of the situation, You don't have to like it,you don't have to agree with .......you do have to live with it though ! I don't see Italian carabrinni (sp?) coming and grabbing her from U.S. soil...nor do I see her voluntarily returning.....so now a U.S court is involved,no ?
