Yes, cuz he was a nice man on tv. He was a very inatimate dildo in real life.

nah cant see how dutch just being a nice guy on tv would cut it coz tha race was for his second term as prez. no way he would win every single state cept his dem opponents home state based only on smoke & mirrors.

Mondale was a terrible candidate. His failure should not be interpreted as there having been overwhelming support for Reagan and his policies.

cant remember Mondale too well but even if a bad candidate i reckon dutch winning 49 states after 4 yrs in office is still overwhelming.

I can't remember any other Western politician who, even in death, could still evoke such an outpouring of hatred and contempt - even though her death came several decades after she lost power.

I think part of that is that she was female and women arent supposed to be "iron".. women are supposed to be compassionate, understanding, not hard and uncaring (regardless of if that is what is needed or not).. she did not fit the stereotype of what women are supposed to be.. I think that added a lot to the hate aspect.. Quite frankly, I feel the same way about Bush as Brits feel about her.. but he is a guy and being a dum-arse 1%er that started a pointless expensive decade-long war is treated by most as ho-hum.. jmo

In terms of what?  Nixon did the same his second term, and it proves what?

The popular vote was like 58 mill to 38 mill, which is still a good margin, but who knew Fritz Mondale? He had never acted with a chimp.

sure mondale got elected as vp on carters ticket.

its said to be one of tha biggest landslides in history & reagan nearly won in mondales home state http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1984
quote:

Reagan touted a strong economic recovery from the deep recession of 1981–1982 as well as a perceived revival of national confidence and prestige.[2] Mondale's only electoral votes came from the District of Columbia and his home state of Minnesota, which he won by a mere 3,761 votes.

Reagan's 525 electoral votes (out of 538) is the highest total ever received by a presidential candidate. Mondale's 13 electoral votes is also the second-fewest ever received by a second-place candidate, second only to Alf Landon's 8 in 1936. In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale's 40.6%. No candidate since then has managed to equal or surpass Reagan's 1984 electoral result. Also, no post-1984 Republican candidate has managed to match or better Reagan's electoral performance in the American Northeast, known to be a very Democratic region in modern times.

Yeah, he touted.  it was percieved, I was there and I was voting age.

That is when television became more important than news, and more important than policies in electing presidents.  Must be true, it was on tv.

It's so lovely to see the left showing off their superior compassion and loving character.

We wait till their dead, the right does it while they still live.

Easier when they can't fight back

Your first link was funny, but if you are actually arguing that people should only have opinions on things they experienced first hand then I wasted my time with the old history degree didn't I? Or are you suggesting that the left live in the past? If that is the case I would actually be inclined to agree with you. Blaming Thatcher does nothing about the present reality.

ETA: the man on the left of that photo looks like he could remember Atlee being in power, never mind Thatcher.

History, and recent history, ie living memory, dont always end up being the same. My point was many of those gloating over Thatchers death dont have a clue why she was elected, or why she was re-elected twice. Anyone who went through the 70s recalls the damage done by the unions. Thatcher always gets blamed for high unemployment but employment was in freefall for a good ten years before she took office.

Cant say I agree with you about the guy on the left, he doesnt look much over thirty to me.

Here, wasn't she actually on deck thrice, not twice?

Should I give the article you linked the same cred I gave to other articles in the DailyMash's Politics section, especially the "MPs to be paid in food stamps" and the "Britons reclassified as snails" articles?

Actually re-classifying Brits as 'snails' mightn't be wacky as it sounds. It could lead to a whole new industry exporting Brits to France, where snails are highly valued as gastronomic delights.

The Daily mash is a spoof news site. I just liked the irony of it ;)

Moonie, I am not overly happy with the cost of the funeral, but whatever else Thatcher did inspire women to break the mould and enter male dominated management jobs.

I was there as well and simply put a lot of Democrats stayed home. The fact is Reagan would have died in jail but for the christmas eve pardon of the two men who were going to flip on him and Bush I.

Ah, come on, PS. She was no feminist. She promoted a fragrant, Laura Ashley style, pushy sort of Tory idea of a woman. She supported Stepford Wives in padded collars in the boardroom, basically, and no other type of woman. I know not a few women who voted for her having just come of electoral age - and regretted it bitterly, later.

Oh shit. You were another female who voted for Thatcher thinking that she'd promote women? Poor Lucy.

Always a pleasure to see the plebs cheerin the death of a democratic chosen leader.
I think she will be rollin in her grave with laughter. Like the iron lady would give a fuck what you think.
You make me think when tatchie met winnie mandela and winnie said"I am an iron lady too." And Tatch replied."Oh what do you iron?"
It's an old saying, before the elections the people laugh about the politicians, after the elections the politicians laugh at the people.
When death meets your way, remember that many will be relieved too. But they have the dignity to leave you in your pathetic phantom peace, with your misguided brethren.
I rather burn and piss on your soul while you're still here. Cause in death you will have none.
Cheerio and tata

Peon

After the damage heath and wilson did...after the 70s, clusterfuck... I had high hopes for her....I only voted for her once...after what happened to people I loved, the people around me, the health system, the housing chaos, and other direct personal issues too.. I hated her with a white hot passion.
I wont pretend to respect her because she is dead....one of the reasons I moved to Canada had to do with her long term bolloxing of the country. The shower of shite after her....well after you give the country a colostomy....runny shit is all you get.
but.... having seen more than just the UK go down the pan in the years since....I have little hope of any politician actually doing anything to improve the lower to middle class lot in life.
I lost too many people in the falklands too to even give her that nugget. ( I lived on and close to army and submarine bases)

No thanks I can smell it from here, bitchin about how all politicians will never amount to any good.
So it's not just Marg. It's the old riddle of how the prey always complain about the predator.
Be a predator, be a politician if you dont like the current waves, or be nothing more then somebody who bitches about it.
