Wow. Is it just me, or has this thread drifted? Still, I'm not complaining.

Well, if it is home made black powder they got a shot, salt peter isn't something you are gonna get just anywhere, (but it is still gettable alotta places) now if they bought the black powder over time (cuz that usually comes in 1 pound containers)......bad news.  But if they grabbed it all at once......

So, there is some hope for a lucky break either way.

FWIW, it's usually best to reference the version of the Bible verse you are quoting.
Interesting enough, what Christianity includes or not from the Bible also seems to depend on the Epoche. In the first 1500 years of Christianity, few Christians had any problems considering the rules in the AT to be completely applicable and correct, and even quote the NT about this. And burn homosexuals on the pyre.
Only now, when another morality has expanded because (mostly) non-Christians fought for it for centuries (sometimes at the cost of their lives), the majority of the Christians"realise" that their religion "always" excluded those rules. Well, better late than never, but I would have preferred if they would have realised that 2000 years ago, not now.
But at least Christians now have finally found the true meaning of their religion, isn't it? So they are not responsible of what those "false" Christians did for centuries. They were no true Christians, after all, those guys with the stakes and the pyres. Only modern Christians are. The ones who have done nothing wrong.
...at least nothing wrong according to modern - conservative morality, of course. According to the morality after another 500 years or moral progress (on which I doubt we will get any help from them) probably yes, by that time, the new Christians will discover that today's Christians were not "true Christians" and that the Gospels "always" have rejected, for example, discrimination against artificial intelligences, or that they have always approved free abortion and homosexuality, the right to suicide, or whatever moral progress can we make in those time.
I am sorry if this message sounds bitter. But I have heard the same "argument" so often that I just have to wonder, were they all were during the centuries in which Christians understood their religion a way quite different of what now they all say is the "correct" way.
The religious texts of Christians support countless horrors. It is up the Christians to understand them in one or another way. And they have adapted their "revealed truth" to the morality imposed by the successful innovators. At the end, the texts do not matter against the blood of one single innocent: Christianity is what the Christians do. And this has been far, far away from any acceptable morality for centuries. Using the "true Scotsman" fallacy to protect somebody from this truth is, well, a fallacy.

How is the section you quoted related to the rant you've spouted?

Have I stated that Christianity is, was and always will be perfect? Not once.

Have I supported the idea that man on man intercourse should result in death? Not once.

I was at a church where the youth pastor was, essentially, kicked out for not preaching the particular interpretation of the Bible the church supported. Basically, this youth pastor had gone to the "wrong" Bible college, so he was not allowed to mislead the flock. WTF is that?!? And, that is a big part of my issue with the Christian religions. I prefer the language of the King James Version and find issue with the vagaries of the collected versions. I even accept that the KJV isn't a perfect translation.

Are you disputing my take on the relevancy of the OT/NT to Christianity, or just sniping that it's too convenient an excuse?

*I* mixed up some gunpowder once, for a home-made firework. It was easy to get the saltpetre, charcoal and sulphur just by going to different chemists. Each was satisfied that I was a chemistry student. And these days . . . well, of course, the instructions for this pressure-cooker bombs and other 'recipes' for (potential) IEDs are all over the net.

Does anyone think the gop will finally allow chemical tags to be mixed with explosives(to ID the maker, seller.etc)?

Does anyone think the gop will prevent those on the terrorist watch list to buy firearms(currently, those on the list CAN buy weapons)?

Right, same here.  We call it a drug store.  But that stuff is not flying off the shelf.  I have no idea of the measure of black powder,  but say it is stuffed into two of these blokes right here:

http://www.amazon.com/All-American-2-Quart-Pressure-Cooker-Canner/dp/B0002803O8

and looking at those blasts, and the damage,  it seems to be a great deal more black powder than a pound apiece.

call it 6 pounds total what 3KG at 90% we are talking 5.4 pounds of salt petre, and as I remember when we got it, 1/2 pound plastic jars was the norm...........but still in all; speculation.

Ive allowed the drift per the statememts of posters in the past as to their preferences of allowing thread drift in certain situations and the fact that the bombing is still being discussed in numerous other threads( of which we did not band together nor remove any for duplicate posting)

Apparently an arrest has been made in the bombing according to CNN, altho its sketchy at best, but news also of a news conference at five.

While the title of the article may be objectionable, what's your objection to the meat of it?

Because of these undeniable and pervasive double standards, the specific identity of the Boston Marathon bomber (or bombers) is not some minor detail — it will almost certainly dictate what kind of governmental, political and societal response we see in the coming weeks. That means regardless of your particular party affiliation, if you care about everything from stopping war to reducing the defense budget to protecting civil liberties to passing immigration reform, you should hope the bomber was a white domestic terrorist. Why? Because only in that case will privilege work to prevent the Boston attack from potentially undermining progress on those other issues.

I object because it is pure mental masturbation. It is the author's rational for his moronic self loathing. Would his conclusions be so different if it were a black woman? His whole assumptions are based on racial hyperbole... In another of his articles, he talked of Bill O'Reilly 'psuedo confirmation' of his theory. The distinction between him and O'reilly is that O'Reilly made it as merely domestic versus international. He could have eliminated the racial and political overtones and settled for that basic assertion and made the same arguement. The author is using race to gin up something so he can stroke his little 'ego.'

Barak ain't gonna get all side tracked. He is looking for legacy stuff now. He needs immigration reform, and he isn't about to start another war.

If he wants a positive legacy he could do that in five minutes: repeal the patriot act, get you out of Afghanistan and Iraq (instead of just blathering about that while doing fuck all), eject the creationist agenda from the public schools, and join forces with Biden to spit roast the next Republican who starts whining about gay marriage in front of a film crew from Fox to warn off the rest of these knuckle dragging imbeciles.
Simples!

My payers are for the people of Boston and for the speedy sucess of those charged with catching the creature(s) responsible for this outrage.

One note which many have not considered -

Normally those committing these despicable acts, or the more normal attacks they make, do so with the intent of practicing what revolutionaries call "armed propaganda." FARC, the Al Qaeda, the IRA, the ETA, etc., follow their actions with an announcement of their responsibility. The fact this has not occurred yet is curious, and not in a good way.

Even the crazy and psychotic actors like the Norwegian child murderer or the Unabomber and their like have manifestos which they desired to have published as a consequence of their actions.

While there is a small chance this is due to other reasons, (which the various conspiracy theoreticians may enjoy working on) the likely reason that instead of being "armed propaganda" the person(s) this bombing was conducted as an "act of war" and done with the direct desire to kill and injure as many of what the perpetrator(s) consider their enemies. If so, this will be just the start of the campaign.

This also makes it far more likely the bombers were domestic "lone wolves."

Anyway, my thoughts are with the poor people of Boston, and those charged with catching up with the criminal(s) responsible.

Doesn't have the authority to repeal it, nor does he want to.... In the end he is a statist like Bush, he likes the power.

I wish he would get us out, not sure what the hold up is.

Other than some southern school districts, I am not aware of a creationist agenda in the public schools, maybe you shouldn't look at these boards as a basis for Americana.

Why bother, SCOTUS will give him gay marriage without the controversy and Republicans are starting to drop all on their own. When a DOMA supporter suddenly switches sides, the writing is on the wall.....
