I have to prove citizenship to vote

Where do you live? Where I live, Maryland, I didn't have to prove citizenship to register to vote or show an ID (of any kind) to vote.

So you believe that someone who comes into this country illegally and works and pays taxes should have the right to vote?

They're represented in the electoral college which, in essence, gives them a vote for president.

That's one reason why I have a hard time understanding why those on the Right are vehemently against doing away with the EC. It gives illegals a vote.

How does the e/c give illegals a vote?

Im wondering when we dropped into the twilight zone again
non citizens dont pay taxes, , renters vote themselves free medicaid, free food stamps, free heat, free bus passes and even free phones.
WOW the level of stupid shit just gets deeper

WOW. The level of IGNORANCE at best, IDEOLOGY CAUSED BLINDNESS at worse, just gets more amazing every day.

Good. Admiting your faults is the first step. Perhaps you can tell us how (in direct contravention to the congressional budget offices findings) they dont pay taxes....

The founders thought so..."no taxation without representation"

Unless you live in DC[8D]

Did the founders have a reason for that? Are those reasons still valid?

SilverMark -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 10:32:17 AM)

Hill, how does the EC give any undocumented people a vote? If we can only guess as to the number of undocumented aliens within the country, and they don't register to vote, do they actually increase representation for an area? I would wonder how many of those folks participate in the census?

To me it would be a birth certificate, passport, or SS number. Any valid Id that would reasonably indicate citizenship.

What proof do you have any of that is legit?

What alternative do you suggest? No ID at all? In that case why even require anyone to register to vote?

What proof do you have that any id is legit for any reason... this does not stop my local police department wanting me to have a license.

Reasonable expectation of validity of an id is still better than just checking a box...in my opinion.

Butch

Maybe if we stopped taking their money and fucking them over, they wouldnt want to vote.

If we shipped them back to where they came from they wouldn't be fucking US over.

SilverMark -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 10:40:09 AM)

If I remember correctly, I registered to vote for years without ID, just filled out a form and I was eligible!

Illegal immigrants come here... work.... get a paycheck. Wage enforcement doesnt care about legality, they care about wages... so employers have to take out taxes. These people get no benefit from those taxes taken. Often times, the SS cards are stolen, no tax returns.... FICA, state, local, ect ect ect.

They dont retire.... disability? probably not...the kids might benefit, the workers do not.

Why should anyone who comes here ILLEGALLY get anything...except a boot in the arse outta here?

Thomas- place me on ignore at the soonest possible moment.

The name is thompson...I will thank you to remember it.

Until these people are legal- they are tourists- and have no say so in the election process.

This would imply the necessity of reimbursing them for the taxes they have paid.

I think one should have to present proper papers to register to vote.

Problem is that a b/c or an s/s or a d/l do not prove citizenship. Thus opinions are a lot like assholes, most everyone has one and most everyone feels that theirs works best for them.

pahunkboy -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 10:45:18 AM)

Racer Jim- I could not agree with you more.

Voting yourself in programs that others must pay for visa-vi the use of force- it pretty much is highway robbery. Why do we get the bottom of the barrel ? You can not just vote yourself a money tree.

Nope. I said if we stop ripping them off, they may not try to vote.

Two big problems: a) statistics prove that they are ripping us off, and; b) they not only refuse to assimilate into OUR culture/traditions and speak OUR language but they demand WE acquiesce to their culture/traditions and speak THEIR language.

mnottertail -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 10:54:56 AM)

Two big problems, you don't have those statistics, and ..... well, the one problem will shitcan your whole thought.

pahunkboy -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 10:56:20 AM)

They are backed by laraza, and Azlam. The goal is to return 4 US states to Mexico.

Having illegals vote is a bad thing. Once they contribute something good to society let them vote.. RJ is right -they do not want to assimilate. I personally know a guy who is double dipping- his entire family is on every welfare program there there is. I want to report his azz. He is working under the table. He needs to be sent a 1099. His entire family is taking benefits via fraud- surely you dont support this. You cant just vote yourself a money tree- tho the ruling it seems you can

Well, I think primarily, we are talking about people who aren't citizens and therefore, aren't paying taxes, either. I think there's some merit to allowing people who actually participate in funding the government to vote and to preventing people who don't fund the government from voting.

People who are not citizens pay taxes. Studies have shown that undocumented immigrants actually pay a lot more in taxes, as percentage of income, than the average American because they can't file tax returns and cannot access most government services.

"You can't be serious!" -- Johnny Mac

Yes he is serious.
They tend to work for low wages and even at minimum withholding, that's a high percentage of the income being withheld. Then, as they're illegal, they don't get a refund like the rest of us do. Uncle Sam keeps it all. That might be one of many reasons why illegal immigration and those who hire the immigrants was winked at by both parties for decades.

What about his "and cannot access most government services."? You believe he is serious about that too? You agree with him about that too? LOL

pahunkboy -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 11:04:38 AM)

Dont you think that if this group of voters contributed to society that we would want them here- and in the voting capacity?

Its not just unscrupulous employers taking advantage, the whole system is taking advantage.

Yeah, ain't that the truth! The whole system is really taking advantage of them by GIVING them healthcare, food stamps, SSDI, Section 8 housing, welfare...

Consider that the existence of such- means that- it takes from the people who truly need it.

If I remember correctly, for years I left my convertible wide-open (top down) with valuables in it without worrying about anyone stealing anything out of it...much less the whole damn car. However, those days are loooooooooooooooong gone.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 11:29:27 AM)

When I lived in New Brunswick, there was a little "square" (It was actually a triangle where Jersey avenue forked off from Rt. 27/French Street) where Mezo Americans would congregate in the morning to wait for construction contractors to pick them up for "day work" for which they were paid cash (frequent "sweeps" were made to stop the practice of hiring illegal workers but, there weren't enough sweeps to erradicate the problem).

As a result of them being paid cash, the only taxes these people paid were sales taxes. They paid no FICA, Disability, Unemployment, etc. They shut down the entire city on cinco de mayo as a protest against their poor treatment. After all, once they're here, illegally, shouldn't we welcome them with open arms and force American-born, non-latino children to learn in Spanish in school? The failure rate amongst children who shouldn't have to learn in a language other than English was skyrocketing.

When I lived in that neighborhood, I was repeatedly told that if I didn't speak Spanish, I couldn't have a job (I do speak Spanish but, since I appear to be white, people assumed I didn't). I was told that I had a lot of nerve insisting that a lady wait her turn in line in a Walgreen's (she waited for four latinos to be waited on before choosing me to jump in front of with about 8 people behind me). I was told that if I wanted to make purchases in some stores, I'd better speak their language (I do but I walked out and spent my money elsewhere due to the arrogance).

Because I speak Spanish, people on my block (and for a few blocks, in all directions) would tell their friends to come to me, if they needed things translated. I could tell who was illegal in certain circumstances based upon the issue they were needing help with (A guy who parked in a handicapped spot who was handicapped but didn't have the proper tags because his friend - whose license {or even Identity} he was using to drive wasn't handicapped).

I only ever turned one guy in because he was an arrogant prick. he was back, four months later with a new name, living in the same neighborhood.

These people are hard-working, law-abiding (for the most part, obviously) people who happened to become criminals (invaders?) as soon as they crossed our borders illegally.

I'll ask again: why should they benefit from their crime? If they're allowed to benefit from their crime, why shouldn't Charles Manson or OJ or ...?

Peace and comfort,

Michael
