Its not just unscrupulous employers taking advantage, the whole system is taking advantage.

Yeah, ain't that the truth! The whole system is really taking advantage of them by GIVING them healthcare, food stamps, SSDI, Section 8 housing, welfare...

Considering many, many illegals who come here arent eligible for many of those items, I dont know what your bitch is about.

We asked HUD ourselves. A spokesman could find no published report on illegal immigrants in HUD housing. HUD does require information on citizenship when people apply for assistance. Public housing and vouchers represent the bulk of HUD’s subsidized housing. The agency says 96 percent of those residents are citizens and about 4 percent are legal immigrants.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/jun/21/facebook-posts/facebook-post-60-percent-public-housing/

"More than 43 percent of all food stamps are given to illegals"

There arent that many illegals in this country.... that would mean about 20 million are receiving food stamps.

FFS, I wish people would use their heads for something besides a hat rack.

You and I agree on a couple of issues (for different reasons) but I have to ask: Who are you to decide who's posting in good faith and who isn't?

While I don't agree with people of differing viewpoints, I certainly believe that they come by their opinions honestly (Some exceptions do apply, obviously and I didn't read post 70 because I don't read that person's posts). How can you sit in pronouncement of another person's motives?

Even if they're not "posting in good faith" are you actually trying to persuade us that they should not be listened to because you say so? That sounds a bit "Big Brother" to me.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Hill, how does the EC give any undocumented people a vote? If we can only guess as to the number of undocumented aliens within the country, and they don't register to vote, do they actually increase representation for an area? I would wonder how many of those folks participate in the census?

Undocumented aliens and illegals are fairly well accounted for in population estimates.
The EC is based on the total number of representatives in congress.
The number of reps in congress is based on total population estimate, not citizen population.
Based on some calculations I did in another thread, there are 12 EC votes just from California that represent non citizens.

weird huh?
They can't vote but their 'vote' counts.

I have to prove citizenship to vote

Where do you live? Where I live, Maryland, I didn't have to prove citizenship to register to vote or show an ID (of any kind) to vote.

So you believe that someone who comes into this country illegally and works and pays taxes should have the right to vote?

The founders thought so..."no taxation without representation"

Unless you live in DC[8D]

Did the founders have a reason for that? Are those reasons still valid?

I don't know or care. I'm simply stating a fact.

pahunkboy -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 12:05:46 PM)

Hill- his argument presumes that these illegal voters- pay any tax. The only tax they pay is when it is forced- they do not pay taxes the type that are voluntary. So you can not have that argument with him due to the false asssumption that illegals pay tax.

tazzygirl -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 12:06:47 PM)

No damn body pays taxes voluntarily... who are you kidding!

Nope. I said if we stop ripping them off, they may not try to vote.

Two big problems: a) statistics prove that they are ripping us off, and; b) they not only refuse to assimilate into OUR culture/traditions and speak OUR language but they demand WE acquiesce to their culture/traditions and speak THEIR language.

Then, let's clean a coupla Million non English-speaking Republicans out of Miami.

thomas thinks illegals pay taxes when in fact they do not. not in the sense that you and I do.

You are right. When they pay in via their wages, like most citizens do, they dont get to file a tax return, the government keeps that money, free and clear, no one to make a claim on it for a tax return.

As to the "other" taxes, they pay the exact same as you or anyone else in this country.

Shocking, I know.

epiphiny43 -> RE: Arizona voter registration law illegal - US Supreme Court (6/18/2013 12:16:08 PM)

Someone doesn't understand the US tax system nor human nature.
As above, No one pays voluntarily, why there are penalties and sanctions in every tax code.
The US tax burden is far more indirect than you seem at all aware. A loaf of bread 20 years ago had 200 taxes in the process before it hit your shopping basket. Like most technological civilizations, no matter what label goes on the system, about 42/43% of the GDP goes to support national, regional and local govt. or the system collapses. This is a constant across the First and Second world countries. Please tell our readership just how you are voluntarily paying 42% of your obvious income to some government?
If you aren't homeless and stealing all you consume, you are paying taxes, and not a small amount.
