I've never read Sergeant Fury and his Howling Commandos, but I've seen every episode of Hogan's Heroes.

Still, I've read other history texts too. I don't think Americans have any different sets of facts than you do, but the conclusions and interpretations might be different. We just see it from a different point of view, even if we may be looking at the same things in the same picture.

A real man would answer the questions asked, and apologize when shown to be wrong.

And sure, if you want to start a thread about european healthcare and how it's not as good as it's made out to be, I might very well contribute to it. Not least because it's a topic on which I've spoken at a number of conferences.

I'm not at all sure what's so "real man" about it though.

Are you a little confused?

Oh I'm always sorry when I disappoint. For my part, I stopped making any assumptions about how smart you are a long time ago, because the constant disappointment would have been irksome.

But by all means, keep avoiding the questions and responding only with insults, they really burn and are going to make me really scared of you.

Did I reply to politesub or to you?

Did I make the claim that my experience was applicable to all Europeans?

Did I ask you to place more credence in my experience than the reporting of the BBC?

Did the BBC article say that the EHIC was valid in 27 countries?

How does your statement "Europeans cannot walk into hospitals all over Europe and get free treatment " look in the light of the article you cited?

It's just one article and it proved spain were not playing by the rules. Wich means people get billed out of their ass.
But I will give more links in my own thread on the subject.
And people can judge for themselves.
I will take reliable state sources by country.
And I don't play fair, it's war and I was born for war.

I think it may be a translation challenge. The article did not prove that spain is not playing by the rules, it proved that some hospitals in spain are not playing by the rules. There's a big difference.

Well, given your performance so far, I guess you can hope for some protection from the Geneva convention when you're taken prisoner.

Much of history is indeed a matter of interpretation, as you say. I have no argument with that.
My issue is more with the small minority of Americans that Green Day once sang about: those who don't so much have different sets of facts, or interpretations of the same facts, but rather have no facts at all. Some of that ilk on here seem to be actively allergic to facts.

Likewise, perhaps freedom itself may be subject to interpretation, which is what others have alluded to regarding the topic of this thread.

Sometimes, though, in comparative threads like this, whether it's who is more free (or who won WW2), they seem to become more like sports rivals razzing the other team, characterized by light-hearted ribbing and jibes mainly to get someone's goat in the context of a friendly rivalry.

Still, I don't think it's a matter of having no facts at all, but rather, a certain selective set of facts, which I've seen all parties guilty of at one point or another. Even the small minority of Americans you speak of has some facts. After all, we know that American troops were sent to the UK and Europe during the World Wars, since many of us have relatives who can attest to that. They can't all be lying, so at least we can be certain of that one fact, if nothing else. So, with all due respect to yourself and Green Day, it's a mistake to say that they have "no facts."
