RE what Obama has been forced to do after the GFC and the complaints thereof: and it all sounds like a guy pretending to be Jake LaMotta beating the crap outta a woman for making his dinner late after he was late coming home with the groceries because he was busy at the bar bragging to his dimwit frat-monkey pals about beating the crap outta his wife for cooking a late dinner the night before.

'the Dems have shutdown the Government in the past'

meaning the republicans and the neo cons themselves never have, themselves?

Actually, I'm not fully up on democrat epithets - so depending on what you think neocons means - yes its entirely possible that the neocons have never shut the govt down.

you'll need to review some of the earlier Clinton attempts at reform that echoed this whole fracas most eerily.

The exchanges opened, will be the headline, and all the employees of Walgreens promptly signed up having lost their insurance as Obama promised would not happen. You talk about shutdowns, their insurance and freedom of choice was shutdown by Obamacare. Government shutdown? Who cares, but Senators, fuck with my insurance and you lose my vote and the Senate and YOUR insurance.

Yay HR, they wear teashirts (get it "tea" shirts) that say "don't tread on me" on the front and "pass the doughnuts" on the back.

could you please point me to the "clinton attempts at reform" that you say echo this fracas

are you refering to the balanced budgets the house sent clinton that he vetod, until they shut the gov't down until he agreed to sign a balanced budget, that lets dems now brag how clinton balanced the budget?
or maybe you refer to something else I am not aware of?

A fact is not a snark. A fact is truth. Snark is not truth. Snark is ignoring truth and history and pretending this is the first time the Gov has "shutdown" and that Dems never did it more than once already for their own purposes.

Altogether, it came to 28 days, when the Democrats did it three times in a little over 2 months back in '77. Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and White House, and it was over whether Medicaid should pay for abortions.

The Obamacare exchanges will be open right on time.

Yes, and the young people will be standing in line to sign up. I'll be there handing out doughnuts. I should have enough for all. I bought a dozen.

Actually the website is so overwhelmed right now that it is impossible to get through. I'm guessing it got hit several million times right at 12PM Eastern.

Really? Would you care to name a few? I don't know any Republican politicans identifying themselves as neocons in the house in 1996, although Gingrich came out as a neocon subsequently. Wolfowitz and kristol of course were neocons - but they were in the administration.
Its not just an epithet you get to apply to everyone you don't like.

I'll grant you - if you do the research you might find a dozen or two even. Hardly enough to blame for shutting govt down.

Gingrich was Speaker. No matter your bullshit he was a neocon then. Wolfowitz and Kristol were not in the administration in 1996.

No, neocon has specific meaning and you admit that they were in the leadership of the House and made up a significant number of the majority so handwaves and bullshit aside you admit there were neocons who shut down the government in 1995 and 1996.

mentioning the year it happened doesn't point me towards these "clinton attempts at reform" you refered to.

in fact clinton shut the gov't down by vetoing the budget bills sent to him, which he then later signed, thus creating the balanced budget dems like to brag about...

but mostly I am curious to hear about these "attempted reforms" you imply they shut the gov't down to stop

would those reforms be where he said, lets just raise taxes, that should balance the budget?

The deal included no 25% increase in Medicare premiums as the budget originally included. A bunch of the insane social stuff got removed as well. Remember Newt talking about setting up orphanages for poor kids?

OK so you are saying they comprimised on thier budget bill, that he eventually signed, I don't dispute this. but I am still wanting to hear about these reforms clinton attempted that its implied the shut down what meant to stop

the only change I am aware of clinton proposed was to raise taxes, but I'd hardly call that "reform"

Since the tax increases were what balanced the budget yes they were pretty vital.

little curious about your link there, since is says nothing about reforms or tax increases?
it doesn't surprize me that a place like berkeley would post something favorable to clinton though...

course wikipedia, a bit less biased site isn't as kind to clinton

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balanced_Budget_Amendment#Clinton_and_the_budget_surplus

and like I said, I'd hardly call raising taxes a "reform" is just plain ole raising taxes...

as for it being vital yeah well when you refuse to spend less, taking more is kinda vital!

It doesn't? I don't know this sort of looked like it did

Servicepeople will not get paid on the 15th. They will get IOU's. I wonder how it will feel taking fire in Afghanistan for free?

This one isn't correct.

quote:

President Barack Obama signed a bill Monday that will protect military pay in the case of any government shutdown.

The bill passed the Senate unanimously earlier on Monday after passing the House on Sunday morning.

The Pay Our Military Act was signed just two hours before a midnight government shutdown. After a government funding bill was vollied between the House and the Senate Monday evening, the House decided not to pass a "clean" funding bill in time to stave off a shutdown.

The new bill will protect pay and allowances for members of the Armed Forces when the government shuts down at midnight.
