Would you think most criminals would prefer what we have or a private court?

I don't know. It's impossible to answer without knowing how private criminal courts would operate.

quote:

The advantage is that the parties contesting pay for the court. The cost could be but a stipend, like the fee one gets paid for being a juror. Nominal. No need for the trappings of what we have today. Could be held in the town square, in public. Get a trained counselor, do it yourself, or ask your friend. Your choice.

If the stipend's nominal, why would anyone want to serve as a judge? Would the trials be rooted in law or be more of a cross between Judge Judy and Springer? Would this system lead to more just results?

Funding of basic research? Nope. I understand the argument that shall ensue, but remember, the OP is Name 1 thing our government provides that couldn't be done better by the private sector. The government provided funds for green research... shall I mention Solyndra? The OP is right... the government provided funds... That is one thing government does real well.

Yep. Banks and venture capitalists in the private sector have never invested in a company or product that failed. It just doesn't happen. Every new business, every business expansion, that gets a business loan succeeds.

Hardly! Your snide straw argument ignores the risk factor assumed by private capital. Why is so much green government sponsored? Because private capital isn't so lackadaisical as to what it will fund.

I'll be far more careful with my money than yours.

Nope, you lost just as much money on Solyndra as any other citizen who got fucked by the cowardly and inept teabaggers, kowtowing to the Chinese.

The criminal aspect could be handled, even in today's environment, by either type court. Odds are, the weed would choose to go to private whereas the true injury would choose to go to equity.

why would anyone want to serve as a judge?

Civic service? I mean, it's not a job one would do day in, day out. No black robes.

Yeah, so a derail. They wouldn't do it better than now, nor cheaper than now.

Yes I did. Thanks for agreeing. Had it been private risk capital, what would I and you have lost?

Put another way, if you lose 20 bucks betting on the ponies, what is that to me?

Yeah, there is no private risk capital out there for much of anything new and developmental. How many private ventures do you think would kowtow to the Chinese as the cowardly teabaggers did?

And I also lost money on banking, wall street and that lot, thanks to Hank Paulson, and so there is that, and they were supposedly (banks and wall street) at risk capital (even though it was all ours to begin with) so they lost ours and took our money to get their bonusus for losing it, now. . .China on the other hand, Japan, Norway, India, Germany, and several other countries back research and development instead of slash and burn lobby to destroy competition as we do here in the US....

And they are pretty fucking much handing us our asses.

Are you completely insane?

VC's fund hundreds of billions of experimental and developmental projects all the time. So do businesses in general. I mean - where do you think the computer you type on, the mobil phone you answer and the mouse, the keyboard all came from?

Well, I expect that I am less insane than most of the feeble minded amongst us.

the precursors to the mouse invented by the research division of the British Navy, and improved by the Canadian Navy, the mouse building upon the government funded precursors was invented at Stanford Research Institute in the early 60's. They have a history of heavy endowments from the government:

I will leave your embarrassment at this level, if you will quit saying such stupid shit, or I will be forced to enlighten you in the entire bulk of it.

By how much? I really doubt a point or two will cut it very far, but I agree, it's improvement.

Jesus, comparatively; I am equivalent to Einstein and they to a cretinous gutwagon maggot. The scale is logarithmic, in that regard.

One who is admittedly less insane than that sub-group identified with, being the feeble-minded, does not conjure Einsteinian equivalence. More like, Barney Fife.

Well, I did say less insane, (it is hard to portray the inflection of the less in the sentence) and given the innumeracy of the feeble minded I thought it prudent to minimize the discrepancies.

Oh, I'm not so sure about that. You could have self-identified as against the, say, mildly brilliant. Even to being descriptive, such as those of sub-mensa PhD. But, , alas, you didn't.

No need, I shine in the garish light of day, while the feeble minded wither.

See, I have a mouse, and a keyboard. You know the progeny of the first electronic keyboard that was used on ENIAC that had its R&D funding supplied by the US military?

Hell, I used to have to dial in then put the damn phone into the acoustic coupler. Later on I got to play with IBM punch cards. The mouse is what left the droppings on the floor the previous night.

Best thing was to slip a few cards into the batch. Print return on wash-rinse-repeat.
