ORIGINAL: tweakabelle I don't know if religion causes depression or not, but these claims, if verified, are certain to depress numerous Christians: "American Biblical scholar Joseph Atwill will be appearing before the British public for the first time in London on the 19th of October to present a controversial new discovery: ancient confessions recently uncovered now prove, according to Atwill, that the New Testament was written by first-century Roman aristocrats and that they fabricated the entire story of Jesus Christ. His presentation will be part of a one-day symposium entitled "Covert Messiah" at Conway Hall in Holborn (full details can be found at http://www.covertmessiah.com)."http://uk.prweb.com/releases/2013/10/prweb11201273.htm For those interested, a brief introduction into the debates around the historicity of Jesus can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:TrumpetPower!/Jesus_as_Mythical_Creation That looks pretty damned fascinating, I must say. Perhaps the anarchists were right all long about the purpose of religion being social control, eh? The only problem is, though, that I'd have to feel quite a bit more knowledgeable than I do in order to be able to judge his thesis. RE that last: I checked the link to the historicity of Jesus - interesting, isn't it, that there's no mention of Jesus by writers of the day who one might expect to mention him?
